    Did the train crew swap trains here?

    • @rogervanpraet7965
      @rogervanpraet7965 4 місяці тому

      No, I do t think so. The same driver and guard seen takes the service north. I believe back then that crews signed the whole Central Wales route unlike today when crews sign as far north as Llandrindod and Salop crews sign south as far as Llanwrtyd

    Fascinating to me! From around 1958 to 1968 I spent countless hours on and around this station. (I lived in Lampeter Velfrey, about three miles west of here, and on the southern slopes of the valley that the branch to Pembroke Dock traversed.) Kindly engine men and station staff encouraged me in my juvenile interest in railways. I remember Mr Foster the Stationmaster, and several men from the engine depot, whom I'd better not name because they sometimes let me ride on an engine going around the yards. It's so different now. No buildings on the down platform, the engine shed and just about all the sidings and yard tracks gone; and the southerly set of level-crossing gates (additional to those on the main line), which used to lead directly from the down line onto Platform 4. And from what I've been told, the milk factory just east of the station has gone too. When I was there it was among the largest in western Europe, and sent daily trains eastwards. How things change. My comments are not nostalgia, just observation. Thank you for the post. I wish I'd seen it earlier.

      Thanks.. I’m no video expert but it’s an interesting local viewpoint. The bridge must have been impressive to see opening. Access is now easy, park in B&Q. The local authority have provided an excellent tarmacced footpath that passes under the bridge!

      Looking at RTT she was 4E at Morlais Junction, 6E at Grovesend Colliery loop and 13E at Felin Fran. I guess this is working as designed.? It’s as steep as the District line gets around here. Still impressive!

      @@rogervanpraet7965 That explains it Roger, hearing one of these flat out on Cockett Ban is something else, but obviously only done when absolutely necessary. These 60's are magnificent locos and the only loco suited for these workings.

      A minute earlier Roger, and the Class 800 would have spoiled the shot. This area is best in the afternoon when the sun is at it's best, many a time I've chosen Ferryside for a morning shot only to find the sun is the wrong side of the line.
