Our family uses a Jerky Recipe that is from the 1600s. 40+ years of edibility. Boil meat pieces in high salt and flavorings for 3-5 minutes. Drip-dry int rock salt solution till dripping stops. Then smoke for 2-4 days with oak for red meats; Alder for fish. Do NOT boil fish!!! Just smoke at 160 degrees F. Place red meats in jars and heat to appx. 165 degrees and seal. Bone dry and good for smashing or break with pliers or a hammer while under a cloth to stop splatter. Stick a piece in the cheek and lt absorb moisture. Nibble as it softens on the edges. This is light weight and will feed you in any weather if you have water, use some of it to make a stew.

We don't just use duct tape these days. The modern Redneck tool kit consist of Duct tape, WD-40 superglue. We've found these to be the best tools we can possibly load into out toolboxes beside the normal adjustable wrench, flat screwdriver/pry bar, Phillips screwdriver/punch, hammer/pipe wrench, & butane torch/cigarette lighter. People need to upgrade their way of thinking since we've gone modern. Oh, we do still use crayons when trying to calculate pie but even though they melt in the oven.
