Weekly Word of Encouragement: Today’s Words is: Consequences of Willful Sin and the Call for Renewal: Insights from Colossians 3 and Hebrews 10
For Today’s message, we reflect on a powerful truth: believing in God does not grant us immunity from the consequences of our actions. As followers of Christ, we are called to live lives of integrity, love, and transformation.
Hebrews 10:26 says, "For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins".
This phrase, typically found in Hebrews 10:26, means that if someone knowingly and deliberately continues to sin after understanding the truth of the Gospel (Jesus' sacrifice for sins), then there is no further sacrifice available to cover those sins, implying a rejection of Jesus' atonement and potentially severe consequences for such willful disobedience; essentially, once you know the truth and choose to reject it, there is no way back to forgiveness through the sacrifice of Christ.
Key points to remember:
• "Willfully":
This is not referring to occasional mistakes or moments of weakness, but a conscious choice to persist in sin despite knowing better.
• "Knowledge of the truth":
This refers to understanding the Gospel message of Jesus' sacrifice as the only way to be saved from sin.
• "No longer a sacrifice for sins":
This means that if someone rejects Jesus' sacrifice after understanding it, there is no other way to be forgiven for their sins.
