I bought a Peugeot 205 in the UK in April 1990, the lowest spec model at 1 or1.1l petrol engine. The engine had several faults like the carb flatlining in hot weather when accelerating. Which was extremely dangerous when entering into heavy traffic. And then the cam belt broke in April 1992 when I was in France.(Because the UK garage wasnt aware of an issue there) We had extended warranty and they(the UK) expected me to pay up on the spot, the French garage kicked in and and aranged for all repairs Since then (2001) no problems with Fiat or Citroen..... (Though I will not go back to Fiat)

They Rallye was a total Jid on the motorway though.

My friend fitted a blown 1.9 with a pig iron Ford 1.8 Endura D lump. With huge injectors, a massive turbo and a stainless cat exhaust it was both legal and fast. The extra 50 kgs we mitigated by the battery moved to the boot, aluminium bonnet and wings he had fitted, along with some rally spec plastic headlights. It dyno'ed around 170 at the wheels, and maxed out around 140. unfortunately stolen in 1996 it was never seen again.

My dad owned one of these and he misses it so much!

I had a 1.6gti 25 years ago Iv had a lot of cars since I drive an Amg now The gti is still the most fun Iv had behind the wheel and my favourite car owned to date

Good luck importing one into the USA. One was sold in the USA for almost $84,000.

Peugeot knew how to build cars...what happened? The same could be said of Mitsubishi with the likes of the 3000 GTO and the later Evo series...utter rubbish now, even the Pajero is crap.

Best handling car i ever owned even i almost bought an Alfasud sprint 1.5 B4 i drove the 205 GTI after that is was only one can i wanted better than the MK 1 golf GTI even the MK1 golf's steering was amazing almost speaking to you overall the 205 for me was the Best years later i even bought a 1.8 diesel 205 marriage mortgage n kids = lack of spending money dictated what i could buy

I have a new model focus st and a 205 convertible. Gave the Mrs the focus, I ain't drove it for a year. The 205 sets my heart alight and use it daily.

I remember when this car first started picking up popularity. I was in the middle of my mechanics course and one of my class mates ended up getting one (Despite not having a license...). Wow. They are just amazing. We were coming up to a 40kph turn and he went through it at 110+. Even though the car didn't leave any skid marks I needed to check my pants for them

I have a 1.1l Peugeot 205 as my first car and I love it, my ideal second car is the gti as it's just so much fun, my friend says a subaru is faster, which while true, it is nowhere near as much fun, nor is it as nimble.
