”You’ve got young Burgundies that cost hundreds of pounds a bottle. Why so expensive?” Oopsie, great and rare vintages of Henri Jayer, DRC or Leroy nowadays cost 100 or even 500 times as much 😃
He was very generous with his time . I knew nobody else who was knowledgeable let alone heard of “old bottled” sherry and what’s more had stock !
No longer made , although they’re experimenting with Pinot Noir
Has the Red improved?
‘Don’t you have to be a little mad…’ she says to the woman stroking a chicken 😂
Thank you, Jancis, for all that you do. Michael. Tokyo.
Thank you.
This is an absolute joy!
Thank xou
What a gentleman... I recall attending one of his auctions in Chicago decades ago..
I could listen to Broadbent for hours, his anecdotes and musings and observations float up and around like a motet. I found his tasting notes for 'Le Domaine de la Romanee-Conti' by Gert Crum 2004 ed. most fun, as he weaves in honest, not always flattering, descriptions of a group of wines I will most likely never taste. Great video, heartwarming.
Just saw this video. I met Michael in 1984 knew him for 36 years. I miss him every day. The most kind decent person I ever met.
Michael Broadbent’s book, The Great Vintage Wine Book was catalytic in launching my interest in wine. As a young college student, just shy of legal drinking age in the US, I was beguiled and amused by his notes, and depth of experience
@@dr7246 That book changed my life. Read it wrote him a note flew over to London worked for an MW did the bidding at auction. Had to come home after 2 yrs didnt want to. Most incredible time in my life met a lot of truly interesting people who loved their jobs and the people they met.
Great report. Always enjoy your updates. Randomly watch here and on IG. Any chance you might do a slightly deeper dive into the re-do of Blaye to Blavia (which sounds like an imaginary Balkan kingdom that is the setting for a Lehar operetta or a newly discovered G&S score). Both the name and the re-application process. Malbec as an accepted grape too? Oddly we just received samples from a large-ish (50K cases) producer from “Blaah-via”😂 that front labels Merlot and Malbec.
Sam here - First, thank you for watching! Second, I don't currently have it on my docket to do a deeper dive but that might change. The official cahier des charges is here (www.qualibordeaux.org/plans-de-contr%C3%B4le-et-cahiers-des-charges/odg-c%C3%B4tes-de-blaye/) - if you're wondering about specifics. The updated cepage is... Principal Varieties: Min. 85% combined Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec Accessory Varieties: a max. 15% combined Petit Verdot and Carmenère

Thanks for sharing this series!
Journalists need to interview producers like David Phinney and call them out for their appallingly heavy bottles. Phinney and his ilk have been using heavy bottles and deep punts to deceive naive consumers for decades.
Loving this tales series
Port was very important in your portfolio.
Thank you for releasing these, a joy to watch!
I love Mr Waugh's sense of humor, and attitude towards wine. Looser, less dogmatic, more open, exploratative. And I get goosebumps at the closing moments of 'The WC-Loo' segment! So innocent! So mischievous! Mr Landers idea? Thank you!
Met Harry decades ago Ch Latour tasting in London a force of nature he was in his 70's by then.
Delightful...I toast you both!
I'm not much of a wine guy, but by gum do I love the sheer 1990s-ness of these videos. Plus I could listen to your voice for ages.
I work at Southern Glazer in Katy, Tx. 😂 Wild... 😮.. heard about this from a coworker who seen it on the SG connect website 😂😂.. 👀 Nightshift life 😊....
Loving these comments!! 😆 And JR is such a boss-babe; love her!! 💛
Not a lot of news on this thing with the FTC versus SGWS, appreciate you covering this story!
I just started getting into wines from Greece. Very enjoyable presentation, ty.
Concise and precise. Well done.
Thank you!
Love your wine news and delivery style. Don’t listen to negativity. Wine brings joy to our lives!
Thank you!
The vertical video and fast subtitles results only in your video going straight to my ignore list.
Really? I can understand if you struggle with your hearing, but I really enjoy and appreciate a quick news roundup of the wine world from a bright, well-spoken individual, regardless of which way I have to hold my phone!
@@islandtook Thanks for this!
Understand if you don't like the format. However, this is also available to read on our website (with sources linked) and in podcast form. We're trying to get everyone the news in the format that they prefer...but that does mean we're reaching a bit outside our normal wheelhouse with video.

Hi Jancis. I'm an oenophile, an amateur one at that, but discovering your UA-cam channel and subscribing speedily has been the best thing this year. U've educated me on wine immensely in just a few days of watching a few of your videos. Amazing stuff. Kudos!
Thank you!
175£ for a DRC? Holy what a deal ( with hindsight 😅😅)

The older gentleman on the yellow couch with the handmade blue suit! and the young man in the baggy shorts… both very cool. I love this series. Jancis looks great!
I keep commenting only because I’m enjoying this series so much. It’s a blast from the past and so beautifully filmed and presented. Thank you for making it available.

Gotta love her.
I’ve become a late arriving fan of Jancis after binging on this series. That lady in Bordeaux was fabulous!!!

If you’re lucky.
4:01-5:50 and 7:08-8:37 etc. you missed a wonderful opportunity to offer an English translation, even if you gave a brief summary on the spot would be good. Mon français n'est pas très bon!

I no despise NZ Sauvignon blanc. It’s overwhelmingly floral, to the extent it smells and tastes like someone spiked it with a cheap perfume. Compared to Sancerre? Give me a break.
I am grateful for your time and persistence in educating us all on this historical and persevering importance of the gift from God of the humble grape and the soil in which it thrives. Thank you
