good vid bro😅
I was waiting for the testimony though and I never heard it.
Question, was NLC worth it?
Where I used to work in Canada , when I started in the 70 's we were taught to free climb . No pole straps until you got to the top ! !
You did great for a newbe. Thanks for sharing your experience.
@@dougdiplacido2406 of course brother
Hey man, I’m also a fellow Christ follower, who is about to go to northwest lineman. I was wondering if I could ask questions about the trade and the school and how it all is as a Christ follower

Did you get in an apprenticeship yet ?
No I haven’t, but I will bidding on one here shortly
Is the class room work hard
Thank you, I needed this 🙏
Of Course brother, he loves you
@@a.w.flickks4680 good video sir. Keep posting more, May Jesus bless you
Done that hundreds of times and my palms get sweaty every time I watch a vid of it 😂😂
Yeah, I just started climbing again. Gotta build the trust again.
i told my boss hey boss allow me try the climbing he look at me and said won’t let you do that your not functioning ahhhh i told myself i will and i can do this someday 😅
What size pole do you use? Also is it medium or light power
It’s been awhile, a lot of advice fishing in Mammoth online though
This is an acquired skill set, which is not a natural human act. Same thing I tell my students, when they go into their first live fire training evolution. Anyone who thinks lineman dont earn their money, I offer this video as exhibit A.
Did you ever get a job afterwards man?
Pretty slick son
looks like prisoners lol!
those boots are niceee, what are they if u dont mind?
I can't even remember my SuperSqueeze looking that nice! It's not even green and brown anymore !
I’m retired now, in the trade 43 years, 70 years old and can still climb. Just some friendly advice, look up, watch where you’re going, don’t watch your feet. Step into your hooks, don’t kick them into the pole so hard, as someone else said your weight will set your hooks. When my generation of Journeymen broke in, we weren’t allowed to use our safety straps to hitch hike up the pole, no such thing as Bucksqueze or Jelco fall restraints. When you free climb you develop the rather it takes to climb efficiently, the new rules don’t allow that. My advice is to take your time, it’s not a race. When I was coming up I was always in a hurry going up the pole, getting the job done, rushing down the pole etc…. One old timer who took me under his wing told me something that I never forgot, he said “ kid why you in school a rush, take your time, take a look down the road, when you get done on this pole, there’s always another one”.
I can't believe we used to do all that stuff with just an old school brown belt. No fall protection!! Love my EZ Squeeze!!
Your climbing will get better once you become a apprentice.
Thank you brother
much easier to throw the skid if it wasn't so tight, try only having 2 or 3 teeth in rather than all of them.
bouta head up to oroville rn in the AM for Dec term prayin I get a group like this if so , shi gona be ez and fun af 🤞🏽
You’ll have a good ass time man
go to chico, best bars are union, provisions, Noris is great for sushi and drinks, and keg room cant forget good ol keg room
@@saulhluz2223 good time

So happy I learned how to free climb, none of this bs.
You’re still taught it . This isn’t bullshit lol it saves lives, you just sound dumb
Free climbing is for idiots that don't care if they get to go home after work.
@@dougdiplacido2406 so says the hitchhiker. Linework used to be ALL climbing. If you weren’t a good climber, you weren’t a good lineman. End of quote. And it still holds true.
Hell yeah little foot. Good times
Good times brother
Would you recommend getting my cdl first then apply for NLC?
Get your cdl first then go to la trade tech and get your pole climbing cert. it’s less then 2,000 compared to nlc’s 20k +, when applying for an apprenticeship all they care about is you having the listed requirements - unrestricted cdl class a, osha 10 et&d, cpr and first aid, pole climbing certificate, and your 1,750 hours in the trade or something related - can acquire by signing the books at your local union and start taking some groundman calls. That’s it.
If you can yes, then sign all the Union Books prior to getting in
You could also save money with trade tech
THIS IS ALL PART OF DE-NUTTING A MAN CLIMBING WITH STRAPS WRAPPED AROUND THE POLE AND EXTRA SAFETYS THIS IS OSHAS BULL SHT
i leave october 26th for idaho pretty excited
Right on dude
I thought it was carabiner pointing out?
How do you pay for housing while youre there? Are you getting paid while youre going to the school or are you expected to save up money and pay for rent while youre there?
Most people took a loan. Honestly if you enjoy the work and will go work anywhere, you will get a job and will pay it off quickly.
@@a.w.flickks4680 thank you for the reply!
Now throw that sissy bucky squeezie in the garbage and climb the pole like a man
Just curious because I’m going to NLC Oroville this December. I’ll be going in with my CDL, gonna be doing my crane op there. Im planning on applying everywhere. From your experience with people you knew from school, how fast did they get a job and you got a job?
If you have your cdl, you can start applying now and mention you plan to go then reapply with certifications after graduation
If you havent paid for it yet, dont bother getting crane cert.
I'm also going this to Oroville this December.
@omarc1862 I’m on the waiting list for December, where are you staying?
@@lloydtinoco7530 staying at linemanlifeproperties, it’s like 2 miles away from the school
You got a insta or anything bro

Stay the fuk out, locals only. Been swimming this hole for 20+ years. Longer then u kids have been alive🖕
How was the Application process? I’m in Florida now and have 5 years of Commercial/Industrial but plan on going to the Idaho campus so I can be closer to my wife’s family. Just nervous about the application and relocation process
Yooo its Kyran, hope all is well little foot lol. Just got in with edison

Taller than i thought, but ok nonetheless
Little advice. Get some Kenetrek lineman extremes or Hoffman Classics. You will be much happier. Stay safe.
I’ll make sure to get me a pair
Hoffmans are gtg
Hey bro I have a quick question for you. Does NLC help with getting a job/ apprenticeship after graduating?
They have career fairs and job postings but other than that not much. However Instructors can help you out with getting jobs just by connections. And by knowing people from different companies
Starting next month PG&E only did 3 day in house climb school.
Yo bro were you hybrid or in person Because rays hybrid .
In person, you can still go to his study sessions. just get the zoom link
@@a.w.flickks4680 thx for the response another question. I am here at the Oroville campus right now 50 companies coming to the job fair. But you as a guy that came here honest truth sir did you like it ?! Did you get a job after or no ? Are you still looking for a job ?
Thanks for the videos i start NLC april 10th what was the hardest part of the whole term?
Nothing, school is super easy. Make sure to go to all of Ray’s online study sessions and just stay on top of all your competencies.
Lots to of math?
@@nathanielbrown2612 Yeah but u get to use a calculator
Its been 7 months. Did you get an apprenticeship yet? I'm on calnev list rn at 34. But they are already opening it up for interviews again.
I have not gotten a apprenticeship yet; I did just interview with Mountain States JATC (Apprenticeship) on 3/10/23. Some kids in my class already started there apprenticeships in Texas.
@@a.w.flickks4680how about now bro ?
Big big difference reaching out and just touching it and reaching out and actually changing it out lol that would be pretty painful changing that insulator out locked in that position for 15 mins lol
Yeah, for sure
Easy thing to do is to hang a ladder on arm - stand on ladder, no stretching
Yo bro i start April 10th What dorm did you Stay in ?
