Any thoughts on posture?
ARES - Pro: you can ring your mum to pick you up if the going gets tough.
Thanks mate. This has been a massive confidence booster. I’m a 34 year old prison officer that’s looking at joining the army (infantry) or police (with an eye towards specialist roles). Although still playing footy and being fit I was worried I was already too old. This has potentially hanged my outlook.
You're welcome mate. If you go Army, check out the SF direct recruiting scheme which would be a good fit for you.
Keep up these videos mate, I’ll be joining next year and your advice is top tier 🙏 appreciate it
Will do mate. Glad you’re enjoying them 🤙
This is great and very underrated content! I know several guys who completed SASR selection. Very interesting to hear the persepective here of someone who has both passed selection and been a member of the DS. Check out a doco called 'battle for the golden road' about SASR selection several decades ago, someone uploaded it to youtube not too long ago.
Hi mate just found your page thank you for all the info you provide. Greatly appreciated.
You’re welcome mate. Be aware the webbing run is now completed in Tier 0 (battle bar and belt). No more old school webbing.
@@rhysdowden noted mate im not currently a serving member . Just trying to accrue information. as im seeing they are recruiting ADF members for SF on the facebook page and im just trying to learn what pathways are best to lead there . And also is the direct recruitment scheme is still around? Thank you.
@@kingco5553yes mate, SFDRS is still available.
Shit yeah thanks for putting this out, Rhys! I’m 30 and an Aussie permanent resident from the U.S. and want to do the Aussie selection. Can’t believe they just changed the ruling for foreign residents and enlisting. Hopefully I can then get some sooner than what I was thinking, which would be later!
Check out the SF direct recruiting scheme mate.
Glad you’re enjoying them mate 🤙
F*** these are so good mate. Thanks very much!
Hey mate what age range do you reckon it's best to have a go for sf
22-32 is probably the ideal age bracket, however, people do get through outside of this.
Hey mate, for commandos selection do you have to do overhand grip (fingers going away from you)?
Yeah mate, overhand grip.
My question is im wanting to do sasr selection i will be 49 i got to pass sfet first. Is 49 too old???
Do you think 2 CDO should get diving capabilities like SASR??
You look so much like paul rudd but with a beard, also great vid.
Hi Rhys, For selection are you required to wear Combat Boots or Tactical Boots, or is it just personal preference as long as they are an ADF approved boot?
As long as they're ADF approved mate.
@@rhysdowden Thankyou
Rhys mate thanks as always. Amazing content. Still on the path and the journey continues. All the best with the UA-cam channel.
It’s worth it mate 🤙
Goodluck with the new channel ~ suggest responding to followers in early days ... it's an opportunity to build rapport & brand
Best advice. Don’t prepare because you’re supporting corporations and not the freedom of your country.
Hi man just wondering are you American. I'm Australian, would this be the same for 2 Commando Regiment and SASR (the special operations in Australia)? Also right now I really want to go Special Operations. Any tips on training, I'm 14, I do Army Cadets and I recently just started the gym and do a little bit of running. I relise it takes years and years to get physcally and mentally ready. Do you have a training plan or any tips that I can follow/do so that by the time I want to go to SF I would be ready. Also I'm not going direct entry, I plan on going through Infantry and build that fitness then go for SF, any tips?
I'm Australian mate! I was in the 2nd Commando Regiment. Check out my free SF Starter Pack that will help you get ready for selection and is a great starting point. You can check it out at www.operatoredge.com/selection. There are also a number of other resources on that page.
I guess I’ll have to get me beret and find out the hard way, bugger me!
If you don't finish the 20km pack march in the required time would you have to redo it and finish within the time limit to continue on?
yes

Brother I so love that it all comes down to the attitude if keep pushing forward your making progress cheers
One thing I'm learning from your emails and UA-cam videos is to ALWAYS find a way to win, no matter how small, just fucking win at something, and that is fucking awesome man, gives me empowerment
I love the honesty
Rhys. I really feel like I need to speak with you. You knew my father and I'm surviving to the best of my abilities and will continue to do so regardless but I'm reaching out. Just for 1 convisation.
You need to do some more videos man
Yo rhys. Just wanted to say how much these videos mean to me. Im a security guard in melbourne that works in hospital security. After most 12 hour shifts i travel out to my BJJ gym and train. Im almost completely through recruitment for vicpol and cant wait. I want to enter SOG.
Love this vid legit just got banned from my Jiu Jitsu club today for rolling to hard uhhh now I gotta go to another one at Kawana ahhh
Onya mate, needed to hear that. Perfect timing.
You're welcome mate!
Great Videos mate!!! Please more!!
This seems relatable to making ammo during the week just to go shooting on the weekend. You get your powder, your primer, your brass cases and your bullets altogether and made into something you can shoot off. It's a finicky process the whole week, but when it's over and done and you've got yourself 500 rounds you can blast away you think it was all worth it. Just my take on it as an Aussie shooter.
This advice helps heaps.
Great advice cheers. The same applies for classical trained musician etc- always practice till the fingers bleed so it becomes muscle memory.
Great advice cheers
Good video Rhys. It's similar to PT, some days you don't feel like going, but if you just get there, most times you're glad you did and that in itself makes you feel better and in some cases can make you think why you ever considered not showing up. Keep the videos up please Rhys. I enjoy them. Kind regards Adam.
Exactly right Adam, you'll wonder why you ever doubted doing it in the first place. Thanks for the support mate.
Thanks Rhys this info is awesome! I will definitely be adding this to my mission planning. The gym action on will be a huge help
