nice flourishes with longsword for the guy in puff pants, if i may suggest - approach with a flourish/sweep to get into middle distance, i think he kinda did it once or twice. this will make the opponent force to play by your rules.

I mean this as an honest question. Why do you guys cut from such long measure? That distance requires both of you advance at the same time in order for a threat to be legitimate. Either of you could stand still, let the attack fall short, and follow after with a variety of options. Thanks in advance!

@@KyleThrush I recently gave an honest opinion to another period fencing UA-camr and it wasn't well received. I am respectful and I have an honest take on your video but if you're offended by potential criticism, it just ignites hard feelings and I'm not interested in that. I've been fencing a LONG time and while I'm past my physical prime, I still have an eye for the "craft". I've seen it all and I've seen the different types of fencers through the years. So if you have thick skin, I'm happy to comment but if not, I'll keep them to myself.

@@KyleThrush OK, but I might have to break it up because I tend to be long-winded. I'm going to skip my background for now because it'll add to this. If you would like to take this dialogue private, just tell me how to email you. I have a few thoughts. Having said that I'll give you some of my thoughts here. This isn't a complete statement but I it's something. I've never seen your videos before and I haven't watched any others, so I don't know which one is you so this is an objective observation. I'm NOT an expert on Meyer or the German rapier school. But the fencer in the all dark jacket and pluderhosen is CLEARLY fencing in the German style. That's easy to pick out. In my humble opinion, from the rudimentary study of the German school (specifically Meyer), he's doing it well. The fencer in the white shirt seems to fencing with a kind of mix between a Dardi inspired school (Which I do know something about) and the German school. If I were to just watch him, I don't think I can tell you "He's fencing in this particular style". He's not fencing, necessarily, poorly, but he looks like he's experimenting (I can go deeper into this). The problem I'm seeing is that both of you are concentrating more on moving slower and keeping with whatever technique you are trying to practice than you are with actually fighting. In other words, this looks like a drill and less like an organic "fight". The moves are deliberate and it looks like you're both more concerned with how you APPEAR to be fencing than you are with actually fighting in earnest. I have a couple of possible explanations for that. Again, this isn't a knock on the technique, just the appearance of how unnatural it looks as an earnest fight. It looks like you're moving at half speed and that significantly changes the "game". If I'm not careful I'll go on and on but I'll stop here for now. If you want to continue this conversation and hear an outsider's perspective, I'll be happy to give it. I just need to know how to contact you. There is no email address on your UA-cam page.

The University of Illinois' Stock Pavilion was built in 1913. The 30,000 square foot building was built of brick, concrete, and terracotta. The main purpose for the Stock Pavilion when it was first built was for judging and studying stock, which included hands-on animal labs. Today, it is still used by the Department of Animal Sciences, as well as by student organizations like the Hoof and Horn Club, various sword arts, and an occasional paper mache blue whale.

Dont doubt the skill at all, but this seems so redundant. Like... okay, you "hit" him, but in a real-world situation that would probably do almost nothing. Just turns the fight from who can utilize the most power, strength, and technique at all once into "who can do the edgiest anime inspired feints/ parries and barely touch the opponents pinkie and win. What Im saying is: this is equivalent of watching 2 hand touch football.... yeah. Theres tons of athleticism at display. But its truly unimpressive ultimately.

Not gonna stop the momentum. Sure, you could cut the hands, but the sword is still moving to cut you. Blocking and attacking seems to be a hallmark of longsword fighting. I see a lot of hand sniping in Kendo, not so much in HEMA, but it's very much still there.
