Our EPFL IC School is one of the main European centres for education and research in the field of computing. We take pride in educating students at all levels in the exciting and world-changing fields of science and technology, performing research that drives forward the boundaries of knowledge, as well as fostering the commercial use of our research and the entrepreneurial spirit of our faculty and students.
The artefacts and software of the technology revolution have changed peoples’ lives in countless ways. And, this revolution is not over! The intellectual accomplishments of computer science are diffusing into many other disciplines, changing the way that researchers, practitioners, and the general public see their world and conceive solutions. We are proud to be heart of these revolutions.
EPFL is the most cosmopolitan of all European technical universities. We welcome students, professors and collaborators of more than 120 nationalities.

Human Data Science, by Prof. Robert West
Переглядів 4366 місяців тому
Inaugural Lecture - Human Data Science Abstract Today, humans and computers inherently coexist. Not only do digital platforms capture human behavior, they shape human behavior. Much of human behavior is what it is precisely because it takes place on digital platforms. Therefore, in the 21st century, the study of humans and the study of computers are inseparable. In the EPFL Data Science Lab (dl...
Machines Can See 2024 - Deep 3D Surface Meshes - Prof. Pascal Fua, EPFL Computer Vision Lab
Переглядів 2146 місяців тому
The field of 3D surface modelling is about to take a quantum leap forward, thanks to ground-breaking work presented by Pascal Fua during Machines Can See 2024 in Dubai. Fua, a professor at EPFL (École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne) and director of the Computer Vision Lab, gave a talk entitled ‘Deep Surface Meshes’, which promises to unveil a new approach to generating complex 3D surface me...
Generalizable and Interpretable Models of Human Learning, by Prof. Tanja Käser

Inaugural Lecture - Generalizable and Interpretable Models of Human Learning Abstract Technology empowered by artificial intelligence has the potential to transform education by providing scalable and automated personalized tutoring to students and, at the same time, support teachers in classroom orchestration. However, current methods are limited: they are either defined for specific learning ...
Multimodality and Embodiment in Vision, by Prof. Amir Zamir

Inaugural Lecture - Multimodality and Embodiment in Vision Abstract The remarkable progress in Computer Vision and Machine Learning now enables us to automatically detect the objects in images, caption them, or estimate the 3D structure. But are we close to sophisticated visual capabilities, such as those that even simple biological organisms exhibit? I discuss two related directions as steps t...
Follow the Gradient: A Tour of Neural Network Theory, by Prof. Nicolas Flammarion

Inaugural Lecture - Follow the Gradient: A Tour of Neural Network Theory Abstract With ChatGPT and the latest advances in Large Language Models, artificial intelligence is the talk of the town. However, the theoretical foundations of such large machine learning models remain unclear. In this talk, I discuss recent results that shed light on one of the mysteries behind this success: why gradient...

Inaugural Lecture - Bridging Generative AI and Reinforcement Learning Towards a Safer and Brighter Future, by Prof. Caglar Gulcehre Abstract Generative AI algorithms and foundation models such as ChatGPT are having an all-encompassing impact on society and science. Focusing on the imperative of building safe and efficient AI models, this lecture unveils the synergies between reinforcement learn...
Complexity Theory Through Play, by Prof. Mika Göös
Переглядів 1969 місяців тому
Inaugural Lecture - Complexity Theory Through Play, by Prof. Mika Göös Abstract Computational complexity theory addresses the question: What are the fundamental limitations of efficient computation? The foundational question of the field - the P ≠ NP conjecture - is the principal motivator for the research conducted in our Theory of Computation Lab at EPFL. I discuss recent results from our lab...
Differentiable Simulation of Light: why it matters, and what makes it hard!, by Prof. Wenzel Jakob
Переглядів 6659 місяців тому
Inaugural Lecture - Differentiable Simulation of Light: why it matters, and what makes it hard!, by Prof. Wenzel Jakob Abstract The term "rendering" refers to computer programs that simulate light inside a virtual world to produce synthetic photographs. Their realism has steadily grown within the last decade, to the extent that renderings are now often indistinguishable from reality. *Inverse* ...
EPFL AI Center - A Physical perspective on Graph Neural Networks - Prof Michael Bronstein

EPFL AI Center Seminar Series Title A Physical perspective on Graph Neural Networks Abstract The message-passing paradigm has been the “battle horse” of deep learning on graphs for several years, making graph neural networks a big success in a wide range of applications, from particle physics to protein design. From a theoretical viewpoint, itestablished the link to the Weisfeiler-Lehman hierar...

Amazing!!!!!!! What a beautiful story behind!
can Kenyan join the competitions🇰🇪??
this one is interesting!
The talk is damn interesting and the research linkage is very intriguing !!
Interesting, hope I can do semester project with Haitham when I exchange at EPFL in my third semester
The sound is very bad, unfortunately we can't hear anything...
The sound is fine on our end. You might want to try it again on your end.
Very instructive speech! Merci à vous Professeur Rachid.
Bitcoin's energy use is not 'useless', since the currency is used by millions around the world, and the fact that it requires real-world cost to produce new coins is precisely what ensures that the system cannot be easily controlled by a single entity. The proposed idea of quorums makes no sense to me, what is the cost of being a node in such a network? Either there is no cost, in which case anyone can make as many nodes as possible to 'shout loudest', or there is a cost, in which case we are back to square one. If you need permission to join as a node, who gives permission? Not requiring permission to participate is also fundamental in bitcoin
No sound in the video, unfortunately...
