Sounds of Chornobyl project presents Woo York live performance at the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone, with a 3d animated alternative reality of Chornobyl made by Ukrainian artist Valery Korshunov.
Large-scale catastrophes have no boundaries, one way or another they affect every inhabitant on the Earth. Chornobyl became such a catastrophe, the war in Ukraine is such a catastrophe.
Today in Ukraine 5 million people were forced to leave their homes, more than 20,000 civilians were killed, more than 200 children ... Houses were destroyed, lives were destroyed, sometimes with special atrocities.
The attack on Ukraine began with the capture of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant and the taking of personnel hostage. Russia's aggression is mounting, and Putin is threatening the world with a nuclear explosion. Was the world short of Chornobyl, Fukushima, Hiroshima and Nagasaki?
Our planet may not be able to withstand this nuclear strike. And then everything will be unimportant because so much on this planet that we value will cease to exist. We must not silently watch this process. Everyone can do what they can and not keep quiet to save life on our Earth.
We want to dedicate this stream to all those who stopped this incredible accident in 1986 and did not allow it to spread further. And to those Ukrainians who today stop Russia's aggression against Ukraine, against the whole West and universal values.
For the Sounds of Chornobyl project, the Woo York duo created a unique composition Atom with the Sounds of Chornobyl like the crack of the dosimeter, the noise of the red forest, echoes, the roar of the current and more, compilated into the audio library by Valery Korshunov.
Woo York: “In these devastating times, we are missing a lot of things we used to take for granted. Looking back to the pre-war days, how happy we were spending time with our families and friends, having fun, playing music, building some plans for the future, and basically enjoying life under a peaceful sky. Little did we know back then, but one day our lives will become normal again. Until then, we will try our best to support our motherland Ukraine - the place of tragedy and rebirth, heroism and reflection, where the lessons of the past must be learned for the sake of our future”.
Woo York live performance perfectly fits the atmosphere of the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone and in combination with 3d animation graphics is a unique piece of new media art. The video for this mix was created by the Ukrainian artist Valery Korshunov, author and producer of the project Sounds of Chornobyl, which has been involved in socio-cultural projects of Chornobyl for many years.
Valery Korshunov: “We created this video in peacetime. It was dedicated to an alternative reality, where science and sustainable development defeated propaganda, silenced mistakes and manipulated the facts of the totalitarian machine of the former USSR, and Chornobyl could have a completely different future, which we presented in our video.
This mix was recorded before the war near the unfinished cooling tower and 5 reactors of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant, which was never launched due to the accident. And on the horizon you can see a new safe confinement, built by the joint efforts of 40 countries over the exploded 4th power unit. Today, as then, the world is trying to eliminate a new catastrophe - Russia's war against Ukraine".
To support people in Ukraine, we are launching a fundraiser with the Help Chornobyl project for those affected by the 86-year-old accident who are still struggling with its effects on their health and those affected by the devastation of the war in Ukraine in 2022.
Thanks to the Help Chornobyl project, you can donate easily - buy a unique record on SoundsofChornobyl.com or the album Sounds of Chornobyl on a bandcamp.
