Indigenous Community Video Collective - NE India

We are community filmmakers from six remote indigenous communities in the North East of India: Daribokgre, Chandigre and Sasatgre villages in the West Garo Hills (Meghalaya), Mawphu village in the East Khasi Hills (Meghalaya), Chizami and Tuensang (Nagaland). We are using video as a means to explore and document traditional knowledge and practices in our communities. Our intention is to inspire local knowledge revival, enable knowledge-sharing, and build the resilience of our culture and communities for the future.
We are learning these skills through a Participatory Video process delivered by InsightShare with support from the North East Slow Food and Agrobiodiversity Society (NESFAS), with funding from The Indigenous Partnership. Our videos will be showcased at the Indigenous Terre Madre which will take place in Shillong in October 2015. In the meantime, you can watch our videos on this channel and contribute to the discussion by commenting on our videos. Thank you.

Let us explain our traditional practice in the Garo Hills. If we don't practice Shifting cultivation we will not survive. This is how we manage our lands for generations. We always grow millet because it is a staple crop, highly nutritious and needs no irrigation.
