The WQ monitor was deployed 20May24 and will data log temperature, dissolved oxygen, depth, nitrates, and pH. It is deployed on the Monocacy Creek below the bridge at Ilicks Mill in swift water.

The honeybee observation hive (provided by the Lehigh Valley Sierra Club) was wintered at an apiary and returned to the deck of the Osprey House at the Gap Nature Center in early April. After a few weeks we so the colony is in full swing gathering pollen and nectar, making honey and growing the brood.

This land was a series of wetlands and ponds 100 years ago and now that the park is in this place, there are numerous wet areas. A wetland was constructed in 2019 to take advantage of native plant and wildlife opportunities. But more can be done and plans are underway to propose plant loving trees and shrubs in place of grass areas to wet to maintain.

Water Quality monitoring on the Lehigh River in winter has its challenges. This visit to change Hach DS5 batteries was thwarted by high water.
