In his book "You Must Get Them All: The Fall on Record" p.53 Steve Pringle states that Martin Bramah reports that Tony Friel wrote the music for this song, and if anyone would know the truth, it would be Martin Bramah. Tony Friel was the Fall's original bassist from late1976 to dec 1977, and a founding member along with Bramah and Smith. In his book about his time in The Fall ("You Can Drum But You Can't Hide") Simon Wolstencraft says (on p.156) that "Mark could be very generous when giving out songwriting credits, depending on if you were in his good books or not." Having sacked Friel in Dec 1977, Tony was thus not "in Mark's good books" and in an act of deliberate spite, Mark credited the music for "Your Heart Out" to Craig Scanlon and Mark Riley, who will both tell you that Tony Friel wrote it.
