Elfin Lakes Hike
Today we hike up to Elfin Lakes just north of Vancouver, B.C. and it was one of the most amazing hikes we've ever done! It took about 3 1/2 hours up and 3 hours down and was 22K round trip. A;ong the way we saw lots of wildlife, including bears that were feeding on the plentiful blueberries. The lakes themselves are cold, but well worth the plunge. Make sure you bring lot's of water or at least a filter system as one of the lakes is for drinking and the other one for swimming.

We got off the a rough start by even just getting us and our bikes tom Atlanta. But the next day, we just focussed on the joy of getting back on the road again. It took a couple of days to get in synch with the heat of 95 degrees and 100% humidity, but as long as we started early and finished early it was definately doable.

Sabaudia is a coastal town in central Italy and has a 15km beach surrounded by mountains. The beach front is populated by beach bars about every kilometer, so you never run out of Aperol Spritz's. Ancient Roman ruins are built into the high bluffs above the main town.

This is the classic Waikiki to North Shore route that takes you by some incredible rain forests and white sandy beaches. You can do this easily in one day by heading east to Kalaniana'ole highway, then just head east and north. Stay until sunset at Sunset Beach, then return the fast way down the middle of the island via the Kamehameha highway while passing the coffee plantations.

Buntzen Lake has been special to our family for nearly forty years as it is the go to place for us to paddle a canoe or kayak on a hot summer day. We usually hike or paddle to the far end of the lake and set up a big umbrella by a picnic table and relax. This video shows a different view of the lake than what most people see - a rugged side. As well, being a retired electrician myself, I know that I am in a place where hydroelectric power took over from coal fired power to energise the lights of the city of Vancouver over a hundred years ago. Great video!
