Hello Chris. I am so very thrilled to have rediscovered you here on YT. My dad bought the Jakata LP circa late '84 from a record store down the road from our house in Pasadena as a Christmas gift for a 14 year old yours truly. Suffice it to say, it was love at first listen for me, and still is after several decades. Which in turn of course begs the question, whatever happened to the band? Why did you, Jimmy, Steve, and Chuck call it quits after just one record? Also, are you still in touch with any one of the aforementioned? Needless to say, it'd be great if you'd kindly take the time to answer these burning queries for a lifetime fan of your music. All the best.
@rezathenightfly Thanks. I don't know your name, but regardless, thanks very much for being such a fan of Jakata! the band was signed to Motown's "Rock" Label Morocco Records which lasted about a year. We had several songs from the record released and they got airplay (No thanks to Morocco since they didn't put any promotion behind us) and the first single "Hell Is On The Run" was on MTV. Jimmy and Steve went on to record another album which was never released. The band stayed together and worked in clubs in Long Beach and Newport Beach so we'd be ready for a tour, and to keep money in our pockets. After Morocco dissolved, the band kept on playing clubs. Members came and went, and at the end I was the band leader and had to bring in different musicians every week. Jimmy is still writing and working on several original projects, Steve lives in Nashville and is playing with a lot of different groups, as well as doing solo gigs, and he's on tour with Jim Messina's band right now. Chuck passed away a few years ago. I still record at home for friends and do an occasional gig if it looks like it'll be fun. I'm still in touch with Jimmy and Steve, and they both seem to be doing well.
@@chrismyersdrums The alacrity, and the details with which you responded to my queries is truly much appreciated, thank you. Well, Akin to any given decade; the 1980's had more than its fair share of "fluff" musical acts. Particularly from across the proverbial pond. Apparently, the hitherto unknown and yet highly polished act Jakata got lost in the shuffle. And to say nothing of the negligent Sacred Cows, a.k.a. Brand/Product Managers lacking initiative and foresight. Thus, consequently Jakata never managed to receive the attention and accolades it so rightfully deserved. More is the pity. Be that as it may, at least on the bright side, you and others have found viable outlets for your incredible talents to be utilized profitably all these years. It's also relieving to know that you and the others have sustained your relationships with one another by staying in touch to this day. Unlike many bands where the ego factor invariably tends to build chasms amongst members. Life is much too short to fall prey to one's egotistical ways. Also, I am sorry to hear of Chuck's passing. Incidentally, my name is Reza. And once more, please accept my heartfelt gratitude for satisfying my curiosity as to the lamentable fate and short-lived stint of Jakata. With warmest regards, Reza.
@@rezathenightfly Thanks Reza!
@@chrismyersdrums You are quite welcome, Chris. Oh, by the way, my wife Sophia wanted me to ask you as to what prompted you and the rest of the band members to choose the name JAKATA? Also, does it have any cryptic meaning? Thank you.
@@rezathenightfly The name was chosen after throwing around a couple hundred band names, and Jimmy came up with Jakata. It's an amalgam of sound to convey a feeling. It doesn't really mean anything specific.

Hi Rick! Yeah, me too.
Nice and relaxed! I sure you're still playing and doing your thing Chris. Lovely stuff.😀
Thanks Whelan Drums! Yeah. still playing and teaching a bit too.
So happy to hear that Chris. Ahhhhhh YES! The perfect combination 👊
I edited this out of a performance we did in New York at The Other End in 1977. My first tour with a band and Quicksilver Messenger Service was one of my favorite groups, I especially liked their first album with "Gold And Silver" on it!
