Spending time in nature to heal all parts of ourselves!
Fixing Siding & Grading Front of House
A little touchup on the siding nails. Get it cleaned up. And keep on grading down the front for two reasons. 1, to pass code, 2, to install retaining wall to keep water from driveway soaking the front yard.

Wrapping Windows
Переглядів 2212 годин тому
Wrapping the windows was definitely a two person job. I'm grateful for Valya's help. It was windy some of it was high. Sorry we didn't get much video, but I still wanted there to be a video just of this. Royalty Free Music: Bensound.com/royalty-free-music License code: NWSJP8LMEORQLTRB

Have I mentioned I hate painting? Didn't take long to remind myself of that. Some patience sanding paid off though. Royalty Free Music from Tunetank.com Track: New Day by AHOAMI tunetank.com/track/3476-new-day/
Caulking House & Preserving Entryway Posts
Переглядів 57День тому
I decided to just caulk the bigger gaps for now between the siding and windows, and roof. And I've been meaning to take measures to preserve the posts to the entryway for some time now, and I finally got that accomplished. Music: www.bensound.com/free-music-for-videos License code: NKRZKDPPFDX0EFPM
Looking For Buried Pipe & Grading
Переглядів 4514 днів тому
Time to unbury parts of the pipes I buried under the house before I ever did my footers. Plumber needs access to them, the septic installer needs access, and the well pump installer needs access. And I did some more dirt ad, and grading at the back of the house. tunetank.com_2208_rock-you-up_by_catana
Organizing & Cleaning Worksite

Sometimes you just need to clean it all up before you can move forward. It's part of the job. It's actually one of my favorite parts, because you get to see everything cleaned up and organized after you're done, you can see what's you've done, and it's rewarding. Siding Install
Переглядів 91Місяць тому
This job took several days, and was pretty hard. Thank goodness for my daughters boyfriends, I could't have got the top ends up myself without renting some equipment. I was so happy and relieved once the siding was finally all up. Music from #Uppbeat (free for Creators!): uppbeat.io/t/hartzmann/sunny License code: KP6NCPTXAJBSSOW4
Foam Scrape & Caulking
Переглядів 39Місяць тому
Cleaning up your own mess isn't that fun, but it's necessary. Cleaning up foam from around the windows, and filling in the gaps with caulking. Just trying to get them water and air tight. And at the end of the video, getting a start on the next big project. Music by: www.bensound.com License code: UDR5ITAP3I5QPKVO
Window Install & Painting
Переглядів 65Місяць тому
Installing the windows was fairly straight forward and we didn't encounter to many road blocks thank goodness. having help from the boys definitely made it an easier task. And of course Valya out there every time we are, plugging away at painting the entry way.
Chimney Install
Переглядів 75Місяць тому
Quick little video of the chimney going in. A few days later I also taped over the caulking with a weatherproof, heat proof, ducting tape for extra measure. I'm sure I'll be up there once a year, resealing. Music: Music from #Uppbeat (free for Creators!): uppbeat.io/t/konstantin-garbuzyuk/miami-beach License code: ZGOUZF2QL9TSTFYD
Wrapping the House, Staining Doors, & Exciting Announcement!
Переглядів 1612 місяці тому
Wrapping the house was another big achievement. So nice to get that done. Valya trying to match all the doors is a challenge, but she's doing a great job. And of course the BABY announcement. Neana has been wanting to keep it on the down-lo, but eventually we had to announce it. We did pretty good not showing the pregnancy though, don't you think? :) Music: Music I Use: Bensound.com/royalty-fre...

Roofing the House Part 2
Переглядів 802 місяці тому
I took a couple of days between part one and two to weed whack and mow the property on those real hot days. Felt good to finish the shingles off and not have to go up on that house for a while. I think in general it looks pretty good and feel good that the water will be kept out. So happy to be finished. Music I use: Bensound.com License code: FOJPQHCB6NW5X4WH
Helene at Home

Everyone has stories, and so do we. We have stories I can't even try to share, because you just would've had to be there. But this just shows a little how things affected us where we live, and the progress made in the first couple of weeks since the storm. There's many worse off than us, many still without utilities, and those who've lost so much.

chalk everything Ron, just don't use liquied nailes too expensive! and today is Dec. 11, 2024
I found some basic paintable white caulking. I’ve caulked quite a bit. If we decide more needs caulking, we’ll do it after moving in. Thanks Dennis
Bone piles Ron.
Hi, new subscriber here! Great build! 😊
Thanks! Appreciate it 👍
Just a heads up for future projects, always do your layouts and construction from the same point, say the left corner on front of the house and then when you build walls, roof, or wrap or put siding or sheeting always start in the same place and your spacing and cuts should always line up. Dennis
Wise man. 👍
This was obviously before hurricane Helene hit?
Yes, because after, all tyvek is ripped along the bottom.
I take it back, this is after Helene.
Chiropracter Ron.
You might be able to take it off with a solvent like alcohol or turpentine Ron?
Yeah, I could probably figure something out, just not a priority right now. Thanks Dennis
Or in Russia, Babushka!
Val you a really good at finishing wood!
Thanks, I’ve got a lot of practice!
Congratulations to you all!!! 🎉❤
Nothing more needed above the door. Save your bigger scrap woods, you need to make a "bone pile for your scrap wood. I have been doing that for decades, you may not need it right away. I have built so many projects here at my place from my bone piles. Dennis
Thanks, I appreciate the tips, Dennis! 👍
Great job on the roof! It’s impressive how you handle it in such heat. Looking forward to more videos!
Thank you for sharing and letting everyone know how you're doing! We're thinking of you. 🥰💖
What about quarter point beams? As long as only one joint per span (not on first or last span) and they are within 6” of the 1/4 point, then it would satisfy code (BC code at least). In my opinion 1/4 point beams make more sense as you don’t have full depth joints and makes beam stronger by maintaining top of beam over a support where it will have tension force from mid span weight. As an apprentice, I used a 1/4 point beam in an addition and inspector tried to fail it until I pulled the code book out. They don’t always know what they are talking about….
🛑Pay attention. Never get under a live load like that bush hog. If a hydraulic line bursts that entire bush hog will instantly drop to the ground with 600 pounds of weight. The hydraulic hoses are under maximum pressure even when the tractor is off. I have 80 acres I bush hog and previous OSHA-related employment.
I guess I could be redundant in safety precautions. I do have the rotary cutter locked into position. But I appreciate the concern.
@@spendtimeinnature No doubt you're invincible. Locked in? Good luck with that. Unsubscribed
lol, chill. It has a lock on top to lock it in the up position. I could put block or jack stands for redundancy, which wouldn’t hurt.
@@ronmasterz6902 No, negative. Doesn't matter anyway, he's invincible.
I'm so sad for you all! 🥺 I'm glad you're all safe. 💖
Id put up soem reflectors if you can find some. Around lines Ya never know. Lots of weird stuff. Take care all! You made a lot of progress!
I ended up touching lots of lines through all this. Nothing happened 😁
@@spendtimeinnature was just worried they would fine you, or blame someone else injury on ya. Glad your safe
U need more nails closer together plus glue. When my brother and I built homes in Colorado back in the 70’s! We would nail across the boards three to four 16 penny nails at every foot or so on these kind of self made support beam’s. And it’s always better to have the joints land on posts. Easy to do with careful planning at layout and before you start cutting.
Yessir but that's good to post errors respect sir
Duh! "I'm a builder. I think this is called a girder." 🤡
Nooooo! 2 seems to post. 1 seem off.
Oops, live and learn. Thanks for sharing.
Never made that mistake due to I was taught right.
Great video! It's nice to see you take on such challenging tasks and manage them well. Keep up the great work!
Thank you very much!
Good video, delete the music
Thanks for the info
No problem 👍
Lemme guess Inspectors note said “Support Floor Joists.”?
Plywood gusset , stapled .
I have to say with a seam out past the support then the load isn't spread through the 3 beams, and you can see daylight between the beams they should have a gap between the boards.... Its supposed to be a unifide building code throughout all 50 states, but wjat happens is individuals read their opinions into code. And gives each individual municipalities different rules and regulations.
Did your entrance hold up in the hurricane? Hurricane clips!
Yes it did!!
Just checking in to see how you are doing after the hurricane? Dennis
It’s been crazy Dennis! We’ll fill you in when we get power and internet.
How are you?
Yeah but he didnt screw or nail them together and they should be glued together
This doesn’t make sense to me. You are going to have a seam in the middle board at some point or is he saying all seams joints have to be on the under pinning or support 4x6
Right on !!!
400 x 200 nail plate?
So both outside seams need to be on a support?
Ty
But joints in beams must always be directly supported. Basic Framing rules here fellas.
Yes always split on a post. No matter what. What if your nails/screws fail? Yup had this happen when i didnt watch a guy and 30 yr plus said it was fine.....
Omg or bust out a dremal and a pry bar and get longer lumber to fill seems. Gois god wood post are ridiculous
Are the vertical posts treated 6 x 6? Then you are adding two treated 2 x ? on either side of the vertical posts with the seams from the 2 x 8 meeting on top of either side of the vertical posts? So the inspector is wanting your seams on either side of the post and using 2 x 8 x 144 meeting on the posts with the middle laminate seam being in-between each vertical post. Is this what you are meaning? 🤔
The guys who built my deck didn't have the seams on the posts. That's exactly where the deck failed. Warped & sunk about 4 inches
Worst place to put a seam is over a supporting post. Best place to put a seam is 1/3 the distance between two supporting posts
👍
I’m not an engineer , but why couldn’t you bolt a medal plate over seam ? Anyone know, please explain . Thanks
Similar ideas have been suggested. Sounds reasonable.
@@spendtimeinnatureThank you for responding.
how did you not know this?
You failed when you said “ I believe this is called a girder”
It's just a beam bearing your joist.
👍
Buy a load of gravel and spread it around the house to make it less muddy.
I’m getting wood chips. But I want my grading completed in the front completely, before putting the ground cover.
@@spendtimeinnature Wood chips can contain termites and don't drain water like gravel.
It’s great to see the progress! Despite the small challenges, like redoing parts or making adjustments after the inspection, the work is really coming along.
Of course
I believe your existing work is called a random continuous beam, which is strong, due to the forces of equal librium.
👍
