Dave Detecting
Приєднався 24 бер 2010
My name is Dave. I have used metal detectors since I was a child. My first was a single transistor Beat Frequency Oscillator (BFO) with a wooden housing coming via my Grandfather. It was powered by one AAA battery, and used a transistor radio tuned into the Long Wave band attached to the stem.
With the advent of VLF (very low frequency had better ground penetration) I borrowed my brother's Viking and searching a wood where a Spitfire had been abandoned in 1940 I found a hammered coin. I got a Bounty Hunter for my birthday. I then progressed after 1000hrs + on the BH to a Minelab Vanquish and also now use a Quest X10 as a back up machine as it weighs less. I would love an Equinox 800 or later they seem to embody everything for the serious the detector prospector.
Part of the art is down to sheer luck so I can't say for sure my chances are compromised by my relatively low cost equipment.
On that one I will report back hopefully as only time will tell.
I hope you enjoy my videos.

Definitely looks old at least medieval with that patina
One can tell it's heavy bronze not at all machined
I enjoy your videos too 👍 Nice one, Dave
Right that's mightily reassuring,thankyou
Just subscribed! 🥳
Cool thanks 😊
Thanks for your hard work 👍 I enjoyed watching your video
Not at all, it's a labour of passion, when my day job allows, thanks for watching.
Great to be out tin the fresh air and finding our history. Best wishes and happy hunting.
Good to get out when the sun is out! Holed brass item is I think part of a buckle
Yes that was my take too, although hole is tiny. Thanks for watching, Dave
nice finds mate keep the videos coming
You too Dave were not overlapping hopefully 200 miles apart, labour of love always. Subscribed btw, cheers
Greetings from Ukrainian diggers 😊
Greetings good to hear from you ...
Sometimes we can add a layer of knowledge to the folklore, which doesn't always hold water (in a manner of speaking)... Thanks Nigel, happy hunting
Fantastic to be out and about in the great outdoors. Fresh air and finding local history too. A great selection of finds coming up. What’s not to like? Best wishes from Lancashire, England.
Heey Dave.. congrats!
One away from 100 subscribers Dave. Happy hunting. Best wishes out there.
Yeah I saw that thanks we have ignition...
Can't agree more, I'm going to have to do better though on the ground conditions to maximize the soil scan
Always great to be out and about in the fresh air. Best wishes and happy hunting!
Fantastic place to be detecting. Best wishes from Lancashire England.
Thanks yes caught it on the cusp this time! Springs qte a long way off
Nice hunt Dave, you found some interesting finds mate.🤗
No hammereds which is odd but this one's always rewarding. Thanks for viewing
Yes I'm sure there're a few secrets in there if nicely tilled at some point. Thanks for watching
Hammered, pot leg, fragment of a pot and a nice coin to finish on albeit a nice artefact on the last hole
Good amount and variety of finds worth a few return visits👍
Thanks Neil it was vast too vast for the few days B4 drilling
It’s great to get silver on the first hole 👍
Morale boost for sure. Thanks for viewing, Dave
Thanks Nigel? Yours was an epic start too. Happy hunting up there.. Good to see your uploads are fresh too, I try and limit the window to 3 days max
Looks a nice place to detect. Happy hunting out there and good luck.

Thankyou for your interest. Happy hi ting. Dabe
Pre decimalization was 1968 to 1970. Decimalization came into force in 1971.
My apologies therefore then this 1968 10p (plus a new 5p) is pre decimalisation day D day except the multiple of 10 is decimal in nature, these 2 decimals (the first decimals) were introduced it seems in that year 1968 and circulated alongside pre-decimals of pounds shillings and pence which then were no longer accepted after D day or 1971. Alot of shops didn't accept the New Pence til 1971, presumably until they we're forced to do so. Personally it seems like it was change for changes sake, the older system seemed perfectly good really. Dave
Good selection of finds coming up. Always great to see history being rescued. Happy hunting out there.
Thanyou. I'd said to the owner there would be one coin, despite the small area and there were 2! Some inane looking bits are often the most informative too. Happy hunting to you too.
Hello 👍👍👍😃😃😃
Hi mate. Happy hunting
🎉🎉🎉🎉😂😂😂
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thankyou 🎉
Congrats on the bunhead, hope the forest produces some historical items. Wishing you a good day/weekend and finds.
Thanks Dennis haven't been in there yet so time will tell if the woodland yields. Happy hunting ..
Nice tanner could the mystery items be splattered bullet ends?
They're just plain copper sheet Neil, cup shaped, not sign of percussion will post on my forum. All the best
@@66DMJC plain copper sheet would be consistent with a copper bullet jacket
They're muzzle loading musket percussion caps that got struck by a brass nipple rather than a pin...cool, thanks guys. So prob pre 1860 or whenever cartridges got introduced
Happy hunting out there. Always great to be out.
Every field tells a tale! Yes always a treat, cheers, Dave
I can tell you that the cartridge casing was made at the Lake City facility in 1944.
Alot of our coastal defences in 44 were manned by Canadians and who's to say it's not connected to the pill box standing in the same field although 50 cal suggests either from aircraft or guns used as well as those (typically smaller) housed within the box. My next trip there may reveal something. Cheers from UK, Dave
@66DMJC It's actually quite interesting. Especially with a 1944 date. I collect antique cartridge, and I actually have some loaded ammo with that very headstamp. LC was prbly the biggest arsenal for small arms ammunition. I'm wondering what you found was part of a late, lend-lease for Britain, whom supplied Canadian Forces, or cld it even be something from a US unit. If it is a case from a .50cal browning machine gun, that wld make sense. They were used in quad mounts for Anti aircraft, and possibly even a single M2 gun. Now if that case is from a .45acp pistol or .30cal, commonly called 30-06 here, that wld be something of a mystery unless it was used for training..
.50 cal Browning machine gun, I'd bet. No way to tell if aircraft or ground gun though. Round here the .303 is most common wW2, then 20mm, then the .50. Cheers Dave
❤❤❤❤
Thanks for the appreciation
20.27. Not from the 60's..... 1971 onward as 10p was 2 shillings. Albeit the decimals were introduced from 1968, the refunds on bottles were not that high then.
Yes you're quite right I thought afterwards not 60s but 70s I will prob keep it even though I was there during that epoch!
Informative video thanks❓
10.10.... looks like a broken piece of a disc harrow.
Agreed, thankyiu it didn't come home that one!
7.20... Animal ear tag.
Yes got that one all these things provide extra insight despite their unexciting exteriors
Get the 8" coil for wooded areas.
Yes animal burrows can help with depth issues there
You are correct on the 12" coil.... It is off centre on the pin-pointing.
Some targets do make off center e m. fields, but some may be the coil and some more are user error!
What a Moment Dave Well found Found.
Thanks Rob they're rare moments...
Very Interesting! Thank you!
Glad u enjoyed it Gracey I find it increasingly interesting if not time consuming cheers, Dave
Welcome Beano 😊
Thank you for the update 👍
Well done and congratulations on the find and thank you for posting 🎉
Thanks v much indeed, detecting and archaeology combined has alot to teach us this could be a real lesson on life in these parts 100 yrs before the collapse of the Roman Empire
Congratulations Dave! So wonderful to see both you and FLO ( Isabella ) working together to recover the find! Once in a life time experience!! Can't wait to hear any further developments! 🤎
Thanks Ellie and Lucie you've been a great inspiration up until this point, as you know I'm v keen like yourselves to contribute to the archaeological record, and will keep you posted .
Brilliant find! You certainly deserve that.
Thanks Dan v kind of u
Thanks to those who posted kind comments on the first edition which I've replaced with this video above. The idea is to keep things fresh so naturally some revisions may occur in order to strike this balance. Cheers for now Dave
Perhaps get hold of a PI machine and thoroughly grid the area you never know!!
Sounds good. I have a CS6 p.i. doesn't do any better than my Vanquish however. Was going to take it to Ashford to C Scope for retune
