Переглядів 15 тис.Рік тому
Second interview with Marly about her method of taking notes during her PhD research (slip-box / Zettelkasten method) and managing research and writing projects in Obsidian. Since the first interview 2.5 years ago, Marly further developed her slip-box method of note-taking in Obsidian and added new elements for managing her projects. She is showing us all the advanced tricks that make her work ...
STEM vs. humanities: differences in academic writing
Переглядів 6152 роки тому
Martina, writing trainer for STEM (writingscientist.com/), and Claudia, writing trainer for humanities (www.claudiamacho.at) discuss the differences in academic writing between STEM and humanities. And the differences are huge! So huge that we can safely talk about two different research cultures - or even two different research worlds. One example: the function and style of language. In STEM, ...

😍 "Promo sm"
May you share kanban board )))
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kanban_board I recommend googling for more examples and implementations
Good point
👍
So inspiring
Where can I find the templates she is using?
ask her to share or else you will just have to create your own. you can use template core plugin but i use templater as it is abit more powerful (or at least it was)
Is there a faster way to copy a template besides manually copy-pasting?
This is helpful to learn the slip method, thank you
I use Obsidian for four months now, I love getting structure ideas. Thanks!
tks for your sharing
Thank You
Nice video! I love the way Mary organized every aspect of her phd project however as a newbie with obsidian it seems way too advanced for me to achieve..
Marly also started as a newbie ;) Check out our first interview where she was explaining the basics after using Obsidian for a couple of months: ua-cam.com/video/bDQn9ry22n0/v-deo.html
just use it to make simple notes you do not have to use all bells and whistles and then in a year or two you will just naturally learn more
Love the writing as a garden metaphor. I'd like to share that idea with others. Who should I give credit to? Thank you for this. So well done.
I have no idea about the origin of the writing garden metaphor. It's quite an obvious one though, I can imagine it was "invented" independently, again and again.
@@martinamichalikova7726 Sounds good. Thanks again for sharing.
And gardening Kanban - the Harvested list - yes very motivating - this month maybe nothing got past, but - look all this hs been done. : ))))
Also - like having the 'whole' in Zot as a library - so easily come back to 'old' papers for new projects and mine them for newer points for the new project, with the Obsidian memory in its summary and the old nugget needed for the old project. So the DataView plus tags managing the current stage, etc.
... and of course, your choice but the PDFs can be in Obsidian - or left in Zotero, with Zot managing the highlights and even comments, and therefore with the extra ability to manage references and citations... and the import of the highlights (quotes) and the comments and the tags with lit citation can be semi-automatic from Z to O... so less cut and paste... and as Zot now reads more than just 'paper pdf'.
Latest Obsidian - adds bookmarks for instance. so links as in wiki style [[ ]], tags and bookmarks - all work within one vault... and are useful to also monitor the status of the note. So the old folder of fleeting, lit and permanent notes can be dropped and if you use via the daily (journal note) and then initial 'collection' almost like Zotero can be made under DataView for the 'now' and not effected by last weeks question.
Ha ha link the book? Where, what did I miss. : ))))))
Yes... BUT what book - at a guess you mean Sönke Ahrens book, only ever referred to as 'author'... ... Niklas Luhmann mentioned but... Now off to the latest, what to make sure I caught the 'part 1' first.
Yes, the book is How to Take Smart Notes: One Simple Technique to Boost Writing, Learning and Thinking - for Students, Academics and Nonfiction Book Writers by Söhnke Ahrens
HI ! What is the book mentioned at 14:50 min ? Thank you
The book is “The lean PhD” by Julian Kirchherr
youtube.com/@dlio
Super helpful, insightful, and joyful!
? ???????
Thanks so much! So many key concepts were covered and such a great demo to us.
did you say you are also using Zotero at the same time? how do you use Zotero and Obsidian together?
This was really useful for me, thank you so much!
In a paper-database system how can I find and eventually link a new note with some old ones if I have collected thousands and thousands of permanent notes in the meanwhile, and the only way to identify the previous notes is an alphanumeric address according to Luhman's method?
A paper-based database needs a manually created index -- and Luhmann definitely had one. See video starting at 8:48min.
Nice video! It seemed like Dr. Martina was interested in trying out this program. It might be interesting to see/read her review on using it
I didn't manage yet to try out the slip-box method and Obsidian. But it's on my todo list ;) Once I have tested it for a while, I will put together a report.
this is the most amazing and clarifying video i've seen on this website
Thank you very much. This is the clearest and most informative video I have found regarding the Zettelkasten method. I have been struggling to understand just how Luhman was writing and linking his permanent notes. It was so helpful to see someone using it in their own work. You said it takes some time to form your permanent notes but I can see how that work, done with care, can be so productive. I believe Luhman said that he took longer to write his notes than he did to write his books. Thanks again for making this. Much appreciated.
You are welcome!
The diagram at 8:43 is what I’ve been looking for. Thank you both.
