It is a remote destination, yet to be discovered by mass visitors, so it is perfect for laid-back holidays in Greece, away from the hustle and bustle! No cruise ships dock here. No airport even! Both Chora, the capital town, and the island’s villages have been built according to the traditional Cycladic architecture, thus expect to...

Kythnos, the island of simplicity and hospitality, is one of the lesser-known and least explored of the Cyclades isles. The charming port of Merichas instantly slips you into the calmness from the surrounding sea. One of the most picturesque, Dryopida village was built in a valley hidden from the sea, right in the middle of the island, a feature that gave the residents extra protection from the...

First time I walked her decks as a 10 year old kid in 1958 I burned my feet on the hot deck. Lesson I won't ever forget. Next time I went there as a 12 year old, I wore better shoes. I still have the souvenir program.

Will the gun's be reinstalled or were they removed to make sure the Battleship Texas couldn't be used??? That is the 64 million dollar question because the reason given made 0 sense!!!

If you mean back in San Jacinto, then no, she isn't going back there. San Jacinto does not have sufficient traffic, is not developed enough, and is too far from the major hubs of travel and tourism to fund the ship's maintenance. This has been an on-going problem that people simply do not seem to want to admit. Best bet is Galveston, with or near the other Naval museums, which will be good, both for the ship, as it will be easier to maintain and the water conditions in the bay are far better for her hull than the berth in San Jacinto, and better for the Foundation that runs her, as they will see a significant increase in revenues. I don't know about "Abbott's friends", but money makes the world go round, like it or not, and she doesn't bring in enough money at San Jacinto.

Excellent, you got a dry dock. What are they going to do when they get that old boat squared away? Haze grey and underway? It would be cool if she could sail out of there.

I saw her for the first time 2 weeks ago on a cruise ship. I didn't realize she was there until we passed. It was a cool moment as 5 years ago I was at Point Du Hoc in France and have pictures of myself at the bottom of craters she helped create nearly 80 years ago.

Her service record during WWII alone very easily earned her the right to be restored and maintained. Texas was very nearly obsolete by the time WWII hit, but that didn't stop her from being absolutely badass in every single instance that she fought.
