Was just prescribed Auvelity.... I've been suffering my whole life and always thought if I could just get myself to go to a psychiatrist I would get relief . I'm about a year into my journey was diagnosed at 50 years old and have tried several medications. My condition I believe has worsened because I'm now starting to feel hopeless when in the past I always knew if I just went to a psychiatrist I'd be okay. I'm hoping this medication will give me even just a little relief from this daily struggle it's like everyone else has the key to life 😢

I understand her frustration when the frequency of probing questions. However, humans are naturally curious with things that are unfamiliar. To be offended with a person who can't comprehend being blind, who asks if she can envision shapes is uncalled for. Has Heather never asked what the sun looks like, or what people look like?

Found this on the very well mind website, “Doing something like planning a trip or some other activity can give you something to look forward to and get excited about” what sort of prick wrote this?… a 9 year old? Certainly not someone with any experience of depression. These sort of websites are full of meaningless bollocks like this; “things will get better” etc etc. absolutely fuck off

Auvility is new medication---- starts working faster because of Dextromethorphan. Did not know at all Dextromethorphan works as anti-depressant, by a new and different biochemical mechanism called GLUTAMINE pathway. Worth trying---- BUPROPION is well known anti-depressant medication and DEXTRAMETHORPHAN is well known anti-tussive ---- but newly discovered anti-depressant with new mechanism of action.

You can’t be on Ativan long-term bc you shouldn’t be. Long-term benzodiazepine use can lead to dementia and the withdrawals one would experience upon abrupt cessation of the drug can literally kill you (very similar to alcohol withdrawal, both drugs affect the same receptors of the brain). If anything you’re lucky that you got off it when you did. Just wanted to point that out so that you’d be aware.

Great episode Tim! I used to use a light box and thought I'd share my experience with it... I was recommended to try it by a Dr to treat depression, but more specifically in the winter when the season made it difficult to find the motivation to even get out of bed. I was told to have it on a timer and set to turn on 15 minutes before my alarm was scheduled to go off. I used it for about 2 months, and I hated everything about it... I remember laying in bed looking at the backside of my eyelids and listening to my alarm and thinking that this must be what hell was like. I also tried using it while working, but I think my experience trying it the morning ruined the possibility of it not giving me anxiety any time I turned it on after that. A similar treatment that actually HAS helped a lot; I purchased automated shades and set them on a timer to open with my alarm in the morning. I think a combination of the natural light and the slow speed in which the shades open promote a much more pleasant experience waking and ultimately improves my depression through the day. Also on the whole chatbot thing; I used to use replika, and it was actually helpful during times I knew I should reach out to someone but couldn't find the strength. It's the only AI I've used that actually felt like you could be talking to a real person. I don't know if it was helpful to me because it felt like a person and I needed that, or if it's because I'm a nerd and because it felt like a person that I found the technology intriguing, but either way it helped sometimes... There is some interesting controversy surrounding it now since they changed up the AI and removed NSFW features in Feb. If you're interested in seeing how changing a chatbot algorithm can affect people with an emotional dependency on a chatbot, then checkout the recent activity on their reddit.

Our chat was something else. I didn't mean to make you cry...it was a good cry though. It's interesting, one of my former therapists told me to not take notes and just be in the moment of the session but to be honest with you, the notes are what works for me. I need to have the note book to hand. It's how my brain works. I got my mic from ebay for about £25 and so worth it. I'm a fan of Zoom, the Zoom H2 is my baby.

This was a great one. I totally feel your frustration about the weirdness of homophobia and such. People can be a nightmare. I definitely know that therapy can help a lot of people, and you're totally right about seeking out the right therapist. We're complicated creatures and can't expect a cookie cutter fix in every situation. We need the right baker with the right tools to help us make something of ourselves when we crumble haha

  • @DenKeeper

Therapy simply doesn’t change whatever’s getting you down. If your issue is that you aren’t happy with your level of education or place in society, a person sitting on their a$$ all day with a master’s degree isn’t going to make you feel any better. The right therapist for me would have to be someone who quit using in their 30’s and figured out how to make a million dollars while holding down a full time job, wife, child, and personal life. Still waiting. In regards to HR, they work for the boss - not You. My bad for the jaded-ness; Great show my dude.
