This little buck is not scared of human voices. He crossed a creek to come say hello.

When you see a buck chasing a doe, you may have success by calling to the doe. She wants that would be suitor to leave her alone and her best chance is to distract him with another girl. I worked a doe call at distance before she finally came back through. He came right behind her.

October of 2017- This buck is the reason I will NOT use a crossbow scope with magnification! I hit the wrong “pocket” because the deer was so close. All I could see was brown through the scope. I was lucky. The deer died very quickly, but left no blood trail. There was a tremendous amount of internal bleeding, however.

This deer is the reason I no longer use a crossbow scope with magnification. He was so close in thick brush that all I could see through the scope was brown. I hit “the pocket,” but it was the rear pocket instead of the front pocket 🥴. All bleeding was internal as the bolt hit the hip and pivoted towards the front of the deer.
