DIY Dane
United States
Приєднався 23 тра 2023
Hi! My name is Dane and I’m a stay at home Dad. I absolutely love staying at home with my two little boys. Since I started spending time at home with my boys, I’ve learned to DIY just about everything around the house to save money. In the last few years, I’ve done an endless amount of projects during nap time, including remodeling 3 bathrooms. I’ve also insourced other things like giving my dogs haircuts, making simple foods from scratch, landscaping projects, and more. I’ve realized how much money I save by doing home projects on my own, so I want to show you simple (and some more complicated) things that you can do too! I want to empower you to take some risks and learn something new - whether you want to save some cash, or just to have the satisfaction of completing the project yourself. A goal I have for my videos is to include as little fluff as possible, so I make the videos short, simple, and to the point. I hope you enjoy following along with my adventures as a DIY dad.
Replace Tub Drain and Overflow
In this video, I show how to remove an old drain flange from a cast iron tub. This took some trial and error, as the flange didn’t have cross hairs like newer flanges typically do. Because of this, I was unable to use a tub drain wrench. I tried using a drain extractor tool, which has grooves around the side that bite into the flange at an angle and allows you to wrench and unthread it from the drain. For whatever reason, I could not get the tool to bite into the flange.
What did end up working was using a hammer to wedge a chisel underneath the lip of the flange and pry it up all around, spray WD40 underneath to break down and loosen up any adhesive and gunk holding the flange in place, then placing the chisel into the groove that I previously cut and nocking it loose with the hammer.
I also replace the tub's overflow plate cover to match the drain stopper.

How to switch hot and cold water mixer valve.
Переглядів 36321 день тому
In this quick video, I show you how to flip the hot and cold controls on a tub and shower valve. This is for a Glacier Bay, single handle water mixing valve. The hot and cold supply lines are switched, so I needed to invert the cartridge within the valve, in order for it to control the temperature the way it was designed to. I also show how to adjust the maximum hot water temperature. Disclaime...
Replace Tub and Shower Valve Assembly

This is the first video of our bathroom shower remodel. In this video, I show you how to remove an old tub and shower valve; how to cut copper pipe; how to install sharkbite fittings; and how to replace galvanized pipe with pex pipe. This is a longer video than I usually like to make, but there was a lot to this process of replacing an old tub and shower valve made of galvanized steel with pex ...

In this video, I show you how to build a coffee table for your patio. I built this table to match the patio furniture built in another video. It consists of five 2x4 boards, 36 inches long, for the table top, eight 2x3 boards, four at 14 inches long and four at 11 inches long, for the legs. I assembled them using a pocket hole jig set and pocket hole screws. The stain I use is a mixture of Earl...

In this video, I show you how I installed carpet over vinyl tile. This vinyl tile had some old carpet glued overtop. I didn’t want to disturb the tile, in case asbestos was present, so I covered and sealed any broken and exposed areas with a self leveling compound. When laying the foam padding in the video, I had the fibered side laying face down on the ground. Supposedly, this is not a big dea...

In this video, I show you how to build wooden floating shelves by using interlocking furniture connector brackets for your bathroom. thank you for posting this! IMy husband has the exact ROYBI and I used for my DIY gate build, whelp yep I set the saw down b4 it stopped spinning right on the cord..live and learn. Thanks to your VID I can fix it!
Glad I could help! Good luck!
where did you pick up the pavers from?
I got them from Lowes. I usually try to get what I can from Home Depot but they either didn't have this type in stock or didn't have enough.
Thanks for the video. I must say though, it is absolutely insane that you have to remove an engine mount bracket just to replace a serpentine belt. Whoever designed the Cruze is a fruitcake.
Right?! You gotta love compact vehicles!
Very simple DIY video great info loved short and to the point covers entire process
Omg!!!! This what i need to my closet!!!!!! Thank u! I hope i can do it!!! 😜😜
I believe in you!
Good video. But . . . for the valve body, two holes are for screwing the body to the boards in back. Two are for mounting the valve echelon/outside plate (don't drill these out!).
You’re right! I’ll be addressing this in a future video when I’ve finished tiling and fix the plate cover in place. Luckily, the screws used for the plate are thicker.
awesome job! inspiring!
👍 nice
Thank you! Cheers!

I am disabled and can not do all those steps, i used to just drain the tanks and pour rv antifreeze down all the drains and toilet . Is that ok . Sometimes better than nothing if you will
Thanks for the inquiry Pecnluv! First, I want to clarify that I am not an expert on RV's and their water systems but I will tell you what I believe based on my limited research and experience. You are right, what you are doing is better than nothing. Unfortunately, by not running the antifreeze through the system, there will more than likely be some residual water remaining in the pipes and pump. Even though it may be fine for the next season, that water freezing will slowly damage the pipes and pipe joints over time and you also run the risk of damaging the pump itself. I understand that since you are disabled, some of these steps are not possible so I would recommend having a family member or friend watch this video with you and help you out. Some of these steps are much easier with two people anyway. I hope this was helpful and thanks again for watching and inquiring!
Im on youtube getting ideas about building me a shoe rack that wont take up a bunch of room in the bottom of my closet. I have paneling. So you just answered my question about anchoring. Thank you.
My pleasure Connie! Cheers!
Beautiful !
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice video!
Thanks!
Just one note when putting back the serpentine belt on the water pump pully: make sure the serpentine belt lies all the way on the back flange on the water pump pully. Noticed in your video it was a little far forward.
Grateful for your help
Yikes! Skipped showing how to use the voltage tester. No eye protection when removing cover - not only dust, but small dead critters can drop right on him. Or worse- live bugs! At least mentioned the breaker, but not how to find the correct one for the room. I admire his confidence though! And I learned things I didn’t know before, so at least there’s that b
Little crooked 😊
Is that the oil pan you placed the wood block under before you jacked it up? Just want to make sure before I start.
Yes I believe so! Be sure to have a flat piece of wood or metal between the jack and pan to prevent damaging it. Good luck!
@@DIYdane thanks!
Awesome!!!
Thanks!!
hi dane hope you and all your family are all well. could you please tell me what are the tpes of blocks called. All the best from Scotland Ian
Hi Ian I believe they are planter wall blocks. Cheers!
Cutest little helper in the world!😊
I think so too!
Great! Straight to the point! Thanks for sharing. Looks easy enough for me to do.
This is exactly what I was looking for, thank you! Curious how long did this take you?
The digging itself took the longest, probably a few hours at least. I did this over the course of a few days because I have a couple of young kids. Overall working time was probably less than 10 hours if you don't include giving the gravel time to settle. Another step I may recommend that I don't do in my video is using a bonding compound/sand in the joints to seal all the pavers and help them last longer. I just used sand because the bonding compound is fairly expensive. Good luck! I hope it goes well and you're satisfied with the result!
@@DIYdanethank you so much! This is perfect and I’ll be sure to look into the bonding compound!
What type of socket are you using i cannot get the bolts lose thank you
Sorry for the extremely late reply! I was on vacation in Canada the last week. I just used a simple socket wrench. It was very difficult to remove some, however, so if you're really struggling, you may need to get a torque wrench. It has a longer handle to help you get more leverage. I have a link to one in the description for the video. Again, I apologize for the later reply and hopefully you were able to get it done if I am too late! Cheers and good luck with all your DIY projects!
Thank you!
My pleasure!
One key thing that I think was missed in this video or maybe indicates that my car is having issues is that when you pull the bolts out of the engine block one of them will be coated in oil and one of the other two will allow coolant to leak so it is important that you check and top those fluids off afterwards.
That is an excellent thing to point out. I do recall oil coating one of the bolts, so checking those fluids is a good suggestion for anyone using this video as a guide. Thanks for the suggestion!
My fur baby thanks you!
This video is fabulous. It gives the steps in a clear way but in a way that isn't dumbing it down. 👍♥️
Nice work!!!! That looks awesome
Wow that looks beautiful!!!!!
Great video got down to the point right away.
whate materials did you use?
Thanks for the inquiry! I have a full how-to video that shows much more detail. ua-cam.com/video/Z2YcDUE9Mf4/v-deo.htmlsi=nhxUUz9ayxXxS-ee It is pretty short still, so if you have any more questions let me know!

What type of wood is best to build furniture that would last outside
That's a great question! From a quick search and according to a few different sources, hardwoods like cedar, acacia, eucalyptus, and teak are the best types for outdoor because of their durability and aesthetic appeal. They are, however, going to be pretty pricey. I used about the cheapest wood you can buy, common pine. It won't last forever. But if taken care of and maintained with a protective spray regularly, you can make it last several years.
I like the video was quick and to the point.
Thank you! One of my pet peeves on how-to videos is all the unnecessary fluff that people add so my goal with my videos is to keep them short and sweet.
looks good, thinking of doing something similar myself. is there a reason you did not lay down any weed preventing fabric prior to the gravel?
From what I researched, as long as you dig enough dirt out underneath and have a solid gravel/sand foundation underneath, weed mat is unnecessary. I'm sure laying down weed mat would be a good little extra preventative measure if you are worried about it, however. If you do decide to do something, good luck and be sure to post a pick and let me know how it went!
Hello, I’m looking to build 1 chair for now can you tell me how many boards and the cuts you made. Thanks!
You'll need at least 5, 8ft boards (I'd get 6 or 7 just in case mistakes are made). Cut 4 boards at 25.5" for the arm rests and bottoms of the sides. (no pocket holes) Cut 4 boards at 23" for the vertical pieces connecting the arm rests and bottoms. (pocket holes cheated towards outside) Cut 5 boards at 24" for the width pieces connecting the sides built with those first 8 cuts (pocket holes) Cut 5 boards at 22.5" for the seat pieces going from front to back (pocket holes) Hopefully this helps! Let me know if you have any more questions. Good luck!
@@DIYdane first of thank you for your reply! I can’t wait to start, I’ll post a picture once I’m done.
