I have been a walker for most of my life. T2 diabetic for 40 years and so far…on top of it…no complications…feel great at almost 84. I promote walking to many newly diagnosed folks as well as Good nutrition. Oh. After being a university professor for about 45 years…I am blessed.

What about being out with trees and weeds, breathing more oxygen and breathing deeper. Listen to the birds, the bugs, the animals, the wind the water. Watch the sun come up. I don't know why people listen to their phone. They are missing out and it's not safe.

Vigorously walking in a hilly area is challenging exercise that can get your heartbeat up there.
Actually it’s better than running , it’s to do with how the body burns fat . At aerobic exercise (walking pace ) the body has time to convert body fat to Glucose so promoting good cell storage / metabolism. Anaerobic exercise( running pace) the body switches to making Glucose in the liver and body fat is not used so stored fat stays stored. Not saying runnings bad but don’t mock walking it’s incredible health .

If you're talking low intensity steady state then yes conventional walking is better because it can delivery similar training stimulus w/ less joint impact. But this has nothing to do w/ my point. My point is us humans, at least in america, have become so unfit that what was once a daily activity that everyone did has become considered exercise. As far as walking, running, or any low intensity steady state cardio none of it is the place to hang your hat if you want to slow, stop, and/or revers aging. A lone those activities speed aging.
Walk or hike 15 miles in one day and let me know the next day if your body feels like you exercised. 😉🙂

Really? Have you ever been unable to walk? Walking is amazing and a long daily walk is a proven lift to your mind and an effective strategy for longevity. It is possibly the best exercise people can do.
My question is if you have money definitely you want to live longer, but let's say you are broke, scrapping the barrel at the bottom, with ungrateful children, who leave you at doge city to face the consequences of old age, my question is why would anyone want to live longer,
Health is more important than wealth. You could still live a long life with a bad lifestyle but more chance you will be in and out hospitals with health issues because of a sedentary lifestyle
The thing is walking regularly doesn’t just extend the number of years. It improves the physiological health of those years. Maybe if you were to take a walk you wouldn’t have so much pent-up rage and resentment because really is the most under utilized antidepressant. If you were struggling in life, and you took a walk every day, the bilateral movement of walking, coupled with the horizontal scanning of your eyes would put you into a different mental state in which you experienced epiphany is that might give insight into improving the conditions of your life, but I can tell you whatever you’re doing in life being healthier and fitter for longer is going to make it a better experience suffering from chronic depression and age related health issues which is really just stress oxidation of your body due to chronic anxiety and hyper vigilance, adrenal fatigueand metabolic syndrome is really gonna make whatever time you have way worse being fit is also going to save you money from frequent doctor visits for chronic injuries pain medication management of what could be improved by just a daily walk
