Music is Medicine for Alzheimer's and Dementia Patients
On May 21st, 2024 I visited Sydney Creek Memory Care Center in San Luis Obispo. For 16 years I have been playing music at this facility on and off as a concert violinist for group.
at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020, I decided to put myself through a certification program to become a certified music practitioner...similar to a music therapist,, but prescribing music in the moment rather than staying with the patient to get to an end goal.
As a graduate of the MHTP.org program, and the fact that my mother has dementia, I decided to focus a lot of my work for folks that are living under the dementia umbrella.
This is "Dorothy" Dorothy is 102 years old and she has Dementia. working with her for so many years, I quickly realized that music was her medicine and it was a way to refocus her very quickly. For my work in hospitals by the bedside, I try to focus on folks that are living under the dementia umbrella for this reason. It is truly amazing to see the enjoyment and how her hands clap at exactly the right tempo for the entire song!!!!

Our camera picked up this enormous mountain lion (the first 4 seconds of the video only) cruising through the backfield between Wood Drive and Eton Road at 8:40 p.m. on October 29th, 2023 This is the first one that I have ever seen . My guess is that it is looking for something juicy to eat and for some water since it is so dry.

Farewell to the Old Santa Rosa Chapel

the old Santa Rosa Chapel in Cambria, California is closing to the public. 9/10/2023 I played a Bach cello prelude on my violin as an offering of thanks to all who saved that place from crumbling down....What a special place. We will miss being there together listening to music.

Cambria Concerts Unplugged be no longer held at the Old Santa Rosa Chapel. The series has been going on since 2018 with the break during covid as well. The management has now changed hands and gone back to the Catholic Church. Please listen to the video. There is a second video that has a musical offering from yours truly to thank everyone for such hard work and dedication.
