Health Camp in Namataba Highlights Community's Urgent Need for a Local Health Facility
Residents of Namataba Town Council have reiterated their urgent call for a government health facility to improve access to medical care. This appeal gained momentum during a health camp organized by CLOSE THE GAP Namataba Junior School in collaboration with Mukono General Hospital. The camp provided free medical services to the community, drawing attention to the critical healthcare gaps in the area.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Mayor Alfred Nduguman, representing Mayor Douglas Namujjali, appealed to the government to establish a health center in Namataba. He highlighted the dire consequences of the current healthcare situation, where residents must travel long distances for medical attention. This often results in preventable tragedies, including maternal deaths and complications from delayed treatment.
Josephine Nassuna, a medical officer from Mukono General Hospital, shed light on the stigma preventing some residents from seeking timely medical care. She stressed the importance of awareness campaigns to bridge these gaps and encourage people to prioritize their health.
Patrick Kanyiike, co-founder of CLOSE THE GAP Namataba, explained the goals of the "Community Ennamo" campaign, which aims to reduce healthcare costs and enhance access by bringing services closer to the community. He expressed hope that such initiatives would drive change and encourage the government to act on the community's needs.
Residents, led by Kanyogoga village chairperson George William Buwembo, expressed their gratitude for the health camp. The services addressed a range of medical needs, providing much-needed relief to the underserved population. Buwembo revealed that the local council has already allocated land for a health center, urging the government to act swiftly in its construction.
