Videos of repairs and upgrades to my 2001 Land Cruiser to get to my goal of 400,000 miles.
I bought this Land Cruiser back in 2016 with 143,000 miles and have taken meticulous care of it. It is in better shape now than when I bought it! I have learned how to do all of the maintenance myself through detailed research and just figuring it out.
Shoot me a message if you have a video you want me to do!
Subscribe to keep up with all of my videos! I try to post a new video each week.
I will also post some videos on a 2006 Toyota Avalon and 2013 Nissan Passat.

Worst Rusty Muffler Removal! So satisfying at the end!
My muffler snapped off from the tailpipe and then end of the muffler was stuck inside of the tailpipe. Was awful to try to remove!

What kind of noise while it was on the vehicle?
3 IN 1 PENETRATING OIL ! USE A SOLID BREAKER BAR !
Nice job
Thanks!
Put through your steering wheel gaps where you adjust the up and down but on the right side and place it up on top of the steering wheel....
Thanks!
99 Nakamichi head-unit wire connector is way different than the one you have, its a 22 pin connector.
Get on that chassis rust asap bro , great overview mate👍
Thanks! I gotta get that rust fixed!
nice work!!
Thanks for watching!
Great looking car. I'd love to own one of these 100 Series Landcruiser, its 2UZ-FE is iconic. Thanks for taking the time to document this great inspection.
They are amazing vehicles! I'm at 310k miles now and still going strong!
for the gasket, did you say raised edge facing away from the body?
Raised edge facing away from plug! It should facing towards the body.
@cruisinwithgreg OK, raised edge faces the diff. Thank you
@@cruisinwithgreg oh, I miss read. The flat part sits flush on the plug, correct?
Correct!
ON TIRE. 1121 - First 2 digits refer to the week and 2nd the year. So your tire was manufactured at 11th week of 2021. (March 3rd week) not November. Excellent info anyway. Thanks alot for the details
Thanks for clarifying!
Don’t shove paper in your spark plug tubes, if it gets stuck in there you’re going to have a huge pain in the ass for no reason
Where’s the link for the list for inspection?
I haven't figured out to link a document on here yet!
Are you able to upload a template? That'd be very useful for a lot of people.
I have not found a way to attach the template yet! So sorry!
Hey mate just wondering if I should buy a v6 4.5L gxl or a v8 4.7L gxl? The v8 is 3 years newer with less miles but $10,000 more pricey
Should be be able to save money with the 4.5 diesel with efficiency, its an I6 not a V6 right? That said, the V8 is indestructible!
Sea foam
I've always used Lucas injector cleaner!
Thank you so much for this!!!!!
Glad it helped!
Ah yes angle grinder, what i carry in my back pocket everyday
You must have big pockets🤣
The quicker you can turn the bolt into 2 pieces the better off you'll be, in a nut and bolt set up, studs are a different story. The last time I had to drill out a stud I went back in with a nut and bolt. It's different in the rust belt where the hex heads and nuts are already rusted to round when you start, and are so rusted together that they're basically welded to each other. I'm actually disappointed if they don't break because t's a lot of hard wrenching all the way out.
Jesus you guys, he's just giving one example. If you want to make your own videos on how you think it should be done, stop bitching and go do it. Until then, let the man make his video and shut the fuck up.
Angle grinders are great aren't they?!!
They definitely are!!
I love a good spreadsheet, and always think about doing this when I get a car, but alas. I am lazy lol
What kind of car are you wanting to get?
The video is on point 👌🏼
Thanks!
What is the name of the spray can you are using to clean the oxygen sensor and throttle body?
1) CRC mass airflow sensor cleaner 2) CRC throttle body cleaner
Wow I literally just bought an angle grinder and started cutting but I got nervous thinking I would mess it up and after watching your video I went back to it and it came right out thank you so much.
So glad to hear, that's awesome!
An experienced tech would use a torch to heat those rusted nuts until they glow orange and find a socket that fits to remove them. Any other technique will likely fail.
Very true! For at home work the video shows some easy cheap ways!
The passenger side has a sensor but I see no where to plug it
Yea the pads sometimes come with them, but if you don't have place to plug it in just cut it off!
Clean,spray penetrant oil,blow heat gun,put brake fluid,let it soak for overnight,then loose the bolt.😊
Sometimes the bolt is so rusted that won't even work!!
Awesome video, straight to the point with very detailed steps but not over the to! 👍
Gotta keep it simple and to the point!
Awesome, exactly what I needed to know, cheers!
Glad to hear!
Nice and easy. I had the same idea of replacing door panels with lx470, but I have to buy lc100 first. 😂 Thanks for the video
Haha that would help! Once I found one on ebay I bought it and then sold my original door. Kept doing that until all done!
@@cruisinwithgreg curiosity is killing me. How much did you find your lc100 and did you buy it?
@@cruisinwithgreg also, can I put a link to my set of decals that you might like here? They’re vehicle specific and I’m sure you will like them
Thanks for the very informative video. Did you need to raise up the vehicle on ramps or jack stands?
No need to raise up at all!
wheres the bezel from?
I found it on ebay! I searched LX470 radio bezel.
Your battery terminals look terrible.
They do! I cleaned them a bit after taking the battery out. I need to do a full engine bay clean!
Why not heat it first?
You could do that! Sometimes the bolt is way to gone and rusted for that!
Heat them up spray them with water. Then quickly crack it loose.
Sometimes the bolt is way too rusted into the nut for that!
She's a rusty crutch
What did you pay for the vehicle. Plus costs divided by years of ownership for yearly cost.
I paid around $8500 for it with 145000 miles
I've got about 10 years of spreadsheet entries for 5 extended family cars that I've been maintaining. My entries are largely text heavy narratives in contrast to your focus on cost accounting. I love the utility of using spreadsheets for keeping track of the maintenance history and upgrade ambitions on our still nicely functioning 20+ year old Toyota and Volvo cars. Before the spreadsheet, there was the small spiral notebooks in all the glove compartments, better than nothing I guess. Now a few minutes into a workbook and I can tell which cars are due for something and the texts go out, "What's your mileage now?"
I had a little notebook for my old jeep wrangler! Much much easier on the spreadsheet. Keeping them helps with upgrade planning and making sure I stay on stop of everything!
I wouldn't include maintenance items like fluid changes filter changes and spark plugs etc. honesty 2500 a year sounds good for a luxury SUV that is known to have shit reliability and considering that includes upgrades you say?
Why wouldn't you include fluids and filters? And the Land Cruiser is known to have some of the best longevity historically among all vehicles.
@@Tendomcgoobin Because all vehicles need it so it is pointless to include them unless for some reason oil fluids and filters etc. cost significantly more than other vehicles.
I see what you are saying, but I think it is important to keep track of all of the costs associated with ownership! I would definitely say reliability is top tier!
@@butWhyDadelectric do not ofc
Love the analysis. Trying to buy a LC myself next year :D ... Are u an analyst or investment banker by any chance? Love from Pakistan!!!
impressive tracking!! Monthly cost isn't too bad considering.
Incredible to see someone tracking with this much detail. Solid work sir!
Looking at buying one with 200k on it. After watching this I'm afraid to buy now. I don't want a maintenance headache
If you find one where the owner has kept it up to date and took car of it, you should be good. There have only been a few things where I HAD to fix it in order to drive, most things I replaced were to keep it in top shape. Better a 200k mile Land Cruiser than any other vehicle!
215,000 on my 07 and running perfect, clean as a whistle and immaculate interior. No issues at all. These things are built like tanks and my absolute favorite vehicle I’ve ever owned. Have an 05 Tundra w/ 213,000 and she runs perfect also. My wife drives a great 03 LX470 (hers has 170,000 miles) and it’s tip top as well. Only issue with hers is the drivers seat is a little tired. No rust or leaks on any of them. I agree w/ Greg “better a 200k Land Cruiser than any other vehicle” for sure! Did my research on all of them and made sure not to purchase anything from anywhere that salt was used on the roads and maintenance records were available pre-purchase. There’s still some great ones out there and they hold their value well.
Is 10k a lot to pay for a 230k miles Land Cruiser 2006 1st owner ? Thanks
I feel like that is a good deal depending on the condition! The value has gone up over the past few years for sure. Ones in great condition could easily sell for more than that!
Depending on condition, that sounds like a great deal. I sold my 2005 LC with 217k for $10.5k last year but it was well maintained with very minimal rust (would be considered rust free in New England or Midwest :)). Paint on mine was not in great shape.
Great video. But wiring nuts? I know they work, but crimping or soldering is better for an application where vibration is at play.
Very true! I should go back in and fix that!
Would you go back and purchase a 100 series over the newer more updated 200 series LX?
I love this question. I love my 100 series. I like the 2001 but wish it had the increased power that the later 100s got. Not a huge fan of the early 200s but I really like the later 200s. Personally I enjoy having a vehicle that has this many miles and is considered older, it feels more unique. If money wasn't a factor I would totally love to have a 2021 Land Cruiser Heritage Edition!
It’s a hard question to answer, if space was no object I would own both (and have). I first bought a 2005 LC about 5 years ago, then picked up a 21 LC and sold it within a year when prices went crazy. Last year I bought a 21 LX and would the 100. Now looking for another 100 series and will sell the LX. To me the 200 is objectively better in almost every way except styling. Agree with the uniqueness of the 100 series, loved driving around in my 2005 w/215k miles and actively trying to buy it back. That said, for cross county road trips and really getting out there on the trails, I prefer the newer vehicles just because I’m not that mechanically inclined and I like to travel allow or with one of my young kids. All depends on what you want and your use case, for me, feel like I can always get back into another 200 but the clean 100s are not easy to find at a reasonable price.
If u replace One caliper can I just bleed that one caliper or what
I would highly recommend bleeding all in the correct order even if just doing 1 caliper. You never know how an air bubble that sneaks in will move through the system. It may not be "required" but since your brakes are the most important thing, it gives you peace of mind. Also if the fluid overall has been in there awhile it is good to get some of it out.
Brake fluid absorbs water over time so it's almost always good to bleed your system, but you may be ok without bleeding the other lines/calipers.
