Big Bend Ranch State Park: Closed Canyon Trail. A Slot Canyon You Don't Want to Miss.
The Closed Canyon trail is one of the two pet-accessible hikes in Big Bend Ranch State Park. It's a relatively short hike, about a mile-and-a-half round trip so can easily be done in 45 minutes to an hour. You basically hike until the canyon becomes unaccessible. You can make it shorter just by turning around whenever you wish. It's an easy hike though there are areas where you have to scramble down rocks and chutes to keep going. To learn more, visit:

    Isnt this just called queso fundido? Queso flamiado is queso set on fire, hence the word "flamiado". This is just fundido. Just sayin.

      Welp, all I know is if you order Queso Flamiado in Texas, that's what you get. Technically, I'm sure you're right but technically there's a lot wrong with TexMex menus. 🤷‍♂

    If you're using the HEB cheese, you should also use their own Chorizo. It's delicious!! I grew up with my mom making her own Chorizo, and the HEB brand is the closest I can find to how my mom made hers.

    I live in a loft with unfinished wood. It's really hard to clean. Can i use this method (sorry, i'm really ignorant on this)? I saw in other YT vids that they add dishwasher cleaner. What's your thought on this? Thanks for this video!

    • @bigbendguide4338
      @bigbendguide4338 3 роки тому

      I don't see why not - water and vinegar aren't necessarily harmful. BUT!!! You say unfinished, I would be afraid of too much water getting in and not drying immediately perhaps causing the wood to warp? I think in your case, its all about drying thoroughly.

    Questions: 1) are these "manufactured" wood floors, or solid wood? 2) what is your base finish? Acrylic or oil-base? I have 70-year-old white oak hardwood floors 3/4 inch think, that were recently sanded and re-finished with an oil-base product (first time ... they were always under wall-to-wall carpet). I don't know if your recommendations would be right for my situation. Thank you ...

    • @bigbendguide4338
      @bigbendguide4338 3 роки тому

      It's solid wood. I don't know the finish - it was a model home. This is really a way to clean off that horrible haze that builds up. I personally think it would be ok but you can always try a small section and see how it works.

      Hey, thanks! So the music is by Scott Walters. I found his CD at an antique store in Marathon but I don't even think it's there anymore. I looked for Scott all over the internet but really can't find anything. He has one very old UA-cam video, a fictional book, and is a teacher somewhere out in West Texas. Aside from the CD I have, he seems to have zero presence on the internet. Nothing on iTunes or anything.

    Adam, may I ask a few questions please: How bad are the rattlesnakes? Are there many fossils? Is it "safe", not to be rude, but I prefer to go off the beaten path and would not want to run into those coming over and get mugged or robbed and hurt. Only for protection, what type of weapon is allowed ? (I have permit etc.) No, I would never hunt anything...it would be a just in case thing. Gas availability for car, or nearest town? Park rangers available ? Sorry to be a bother...but I am a cover my bases gal. Thank you sir.

    • @bigbendguide4338
      @bigbendguide4338 4 роки тому

      Hi Bobbie! Happy to help. I can only give my personal experience and no guarantees. There are rattlesnakes but I have never come across one personally. And I have done more than my fair share of off the beaten path hiking and rock scrambling. There are also fossils but I think that takes more searching. Like the property I like to stay at, Ten Bits, and a showcase of fossils they found on their property. The national park does have staffed paleontologists and they also have a large fossil exhibit. Robbing or getting hurt never crosses my mind. They towns across from the border, such as Boquillas, are the kindest and gentle people. There is a symbiotic community based on respect and there are even cross-cultural parties held in the river. That is by far your least concern. I carry a knife because its a good survival practice more to live off the land if the need ever came to that. I don't know the rules for the park itself. I'd guess unloaded and our of reach inside the park. The surrounding communities are a different story, it is west Texas after all. Gas is fine to come by. There is a town to the north, Marathon, and just to the West, Study Butte with gas stations. The park also has gas. Check out my website and Instagram @bigbendguide to see some context. I've known many solo female adventures who even cross the border and have the best experience. The locals on the other side will also offer their services as a guide to help you get the most of your visit. There is no ill intent there. They will even take you to secret hot springs to soak in. It truly is a beautifully harmonious experience.

    • @bigbendguide4338
      @bigbendguide4338 4 роки тому

      Oh, one more thing, the national park is only PARTIALLY open right now. You can do some amazing mountain hiking. Then Ten Bits is a wonderful place to explore on its own. And the state park is so expansive and amazing.

    • @jasongonzales6278
      @jasongonzales6278 3 роки тому

      The town of Boquillas across the border is 100% dependent on tourism, just like big bend is very isolated from big cities, so is Boquillas, so it benefits them to be good hosts. This is also the main reason you don’t see many border crossers at this junction, crossing into the US at BBNP would mean a long arduous trek thru a very unforgiving desert. BBNP is a truly unique gem that Americans should experience.
