UK's Longest Toboggan Run...And We Nearly Crashed!
It's been on our to-do list for a while now, and on a recent trip to Kent we stopped off at the Chatham Snowsports Centre to ride the UK's longest toboggan run. Whilst it is only 750m long, quite modest by European standards, it is still a fantastic ride and long enough to give a speed thrill.
Oh, and keep watching until the end, when we have added in our near-crash moment!

We Went Deep Underground In Derbyshire

We headed north on a short 3-day trip to Derbyshire in England. On a wet day we went in search of something dry to do, so where else but deep underground in a cave. So we took a trip to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, East London. How often have we seen Olympic venues looking sad and disused after the event has packed up and left town? That's a bit exagerrated. Between Vienna and Budapest you travel only 2:40. Who says, this is a nightmare in second class, did never experience a real nightmare. Ps. I am a Viennese and I went this way maybe 20 times in my life, all the time with second class.

    • @TravelsWithCharlie

It wasn’t second class that was the nightmare, it was the behaviour of people when we all became stuck in the corridor. I almost always travel second class, I’m quite happy there 😃

The comparison is not compleately correct because Frecciarossa has another, higher, level: executive; a level that is pure luxury (and definitely expensive). In my opinion Frecciarossa is far better; Italo, in the pre-pandemic period, was extremely cheap; once I travelled between Torino and Verona with 9,99 Euros; nowadays fees are almost the same.

Hi - so we travelled on a 5-day interrail pass which cost £283. My son was 11 so went for free (bargain!) and I see this now costs €318 for 5 days. We then paid £57 supplement for Eurostar tickets to Paris and I think the Paris-Zurich train was included in the interrail ticket. Sorry, probably not much use as an answer. Best place for advice on this journey is www.seat61.com/Switzerland.htm#london-to-basel-and-zurich-by-train A quick search on www.raileurope.com/en suggests tickets one way could be as low as £95 but could be way higher. It's a fun journey though

Thanks for this video - I am visiting in a couple of weeks, and wanted to ride the Central line north of Stratford. I have been trying to figure out the loop, because when you look at the official TFL map, you would think you could ride a train all the way around non-stop. But when trying to get timings from the TFL Plan-a-Journey website, it won't let you go all around the loop. Your video has cleared this up for me. Ha. I am the last person to ask. I had plans to do so much in Paris but due to over ambitious planning and a lack of key metro lines running we so nearly missed our onward train. We dropped cases at the Gare de Lyon which took up a lot of time. My only advice is don’t underestimate how much time every little bit takes- buying tickets, finding and changing lines, walking from the metro to the tower (that took ages).

I forgot to add the cost of travelling on the Caledonian Sleeper, sorry. This is not cheap. So we paid £210 for a Classic Room (essentially the basic 2-berth bedroom). I was then sent an email offering the chance to bid for an upgrade to a Club Room, through the Seatfrog app. Having already spent £210 I wasn't keen to bid much, so I offered £20. And won. This was well worth it once you add in lounge access at Euston (you can't board before 22.30 otherwise), free soft drinks and snacks and free breakfast on board the next day. Given that we spent about £50 on a return daytime train ticket, it's hard to justify the cost of the sleeper train, but then you don't give up half a day to travel.

It so amazing to see someone have almost identical excitement as I did when I went around the same Concorde at a similar age.

Great video, good to see Concorde..such a fantastic aircraft. Ive been RAR Cosford Air museum loads of times, it would be nice to visit Duxford one day.

Yes, although I want to see a ‘real’ Concorde, this one was hard to get a sense of inside

Can you choose the seat on Italo? Why I couldn’t? website says seat assigned automatically

Hi - I can't now remember if I was able to choose seats or was just given good ones. We had good seats, but we did also travel Prima and maybe the seat layout is better? Their website suggests you can choose seats when buying, otherwise you have to call afterwards. Sorry I can't help more than that, have a good trip though

Hi. Yes you can choose you seat. On the checkout page, at the top right side, it will say "choose your seat" or "seat selection". It's hidden, but it's there!

This is very helpful. Thank you! I am looking at doing a book now for May. Do you just pay the extra 10 euro for the suitcase? Can you bring your own food on board?

    • @TravelsWithCharlie
      @TravelsWithCharlie 6 місяців тому

Hi, not sure what you mean by 10 euros for the suitcase. Food you can do what you like, eat in the restaurant or bring your own

@@TravelsWithCharlie I was on the SNAV website and it said you get 9-10kg carry on included in the ticket price but if you want extra luggage, you pay 10 euro per extra piece of luggage

@lobsterfyit oh ok, we just took suitcases on, had none of that. Very odd. I booked through Direct Ferries maybe that is different?
