Hi Moose
Dude...the 2x4 was warped...u can see that earlier. Get a 2x4 straighter
@@daver2964 2x4 didn't matter. it wasn't doing anything other than keeping the plywood flat
how do you like it so far? thinking of getting it as a gift
I've been using it way more than I expected. it's something you can always get by without, but it's a lot more fun to have!
Appreciate this video for being realistic about the tool and keeping the mistake in! Respect on that!
@@NobleNobbler I wish so much it worked better!
Why do I get notified of this publish 3 days late? Oh and ummm, nice video.
Jeez, I watched this after a drilling project. I hated that task so much. I wish I had known the drill tip ahead of time.
@@JorgeL721 now for next time!
Great to see that... I made it too. Plans from WoodPrix helped me a lot :)
😂😂😂 bro really!?! There are reasons this happens. In new construction the walls are framed that allows for about 1/2” gap. It’s a good thing. You may be filming in an older home that had a remodel. Looks like 1” to 1 1/2” there which is fine.
@stevieg6616 yes, really! 1/2" gal to the floor is fine. 1.5"+ is not fine

It's good to see this. Without such an introduction it's easy to get lost in the minutiae of whatever board you're cutting or hole you're drilling without knowing what you're trying to accomplish or why. Here we get an idea of your vision for the place and insight into the thought process. No one can watch the stream 24x7. Right?

A starchy opinion on the cabinets: I can't accept the dark-coloured doors. Practically speaking 3 of the 5 are black which is a big No for me. The walnut ones don't look terrible, but in my way of thinking a woodgrain finish would be a courageous choice in 2024. I thought some sort of a light- to medium-grey might be a choice and I could live with that, but it was not in the cards. My preference therefore would be the white that you're using on the upper cabinets. Some shade of lighter grey for countertop could work well with the white cabinets. In terms of the height above the countertop, I would be cautious of making the upper cabinets too low. I do like efficient space utilization but if seeing or reaching the contents of the counter becomes difficult, it will be exceptionally annoying particularly to the tall kiddos out there. I for one am shocked that only 30- and 40-inch heights are options. Nice job filling the hole. I expected you were going to cut out a piece of plywood for that. It will be fun to see how the dried concrete turns out. Some of us really do watch the UA-cams Moose!
30's and 40's are pretty standard. with a 36" counter height, a 96" ceiling, and 40" cabinets, that leaves you 20" between base & uppers, which *should* be plenty. average spacing is 17-20" so if i'm in that range noone will think it's weird, especially if i don't have 9' ceilings. i just really wanna do something a little new/different, to bring the slate out a bit more. i'll never install it so i wanna play with it while i have it ^^
@MooseDoesStuff If you think the clearance is sufficient, then go with the taller cabinets. It's kinda hard to tell on camera. For the colour issue, what about using a countertop similar to the slate colour? I'm thinking of a lighter version of that, to complement the slate without being overpowering or turning into a black hole. Ok, green hole...
@Starchface I'm colourblind, so picking a good colour stone would be basically impossible for me. was thinking white for the countertops and up
@MooseDoesStuff I am well aware of your disability Moose. Some of us will help you with the colour, and some of the some can even be trusted! Maybe. 🤔 I'm thinking of a subdued green, something like #d0e1db This is like a light grey with a hint of green to it. Whether you can get a countertop in this sort of colour is a whole other question. I think it would be a tasteful way to accomplish what you wanted. Pretty ironic me talking about taste! I get that
I was using SketchUp for a while but I think it’s overpriced. I liked having the dynamic adjustments as I make measurement edits. And labeling dimensions was super easy. I’ve gone back to using Inkscape just to make decent drawings I can use for reference later. I also use CutListOptimiser and add extra margin by doubling or tripling the kerf.
I like the way you add that there is no way the house passed HVAC inspection. Of course it could have, it just depends on how competent the city inspector was and if he was having a good day or not.
@@WarpedMinds nae, no way at all. they just didn't pull any permits.

@peterhall4216 that's what I'm wondering!
@MooseDoesStuff It was interesting to watch your process and as a beginner DIYer myself I'm keen to learn, so would be good for people to explain what is 'wrong'!
I’m seeing kits with something else: 3 blade carbide tip hole saws. How are those compared to augers, spade or “speedbor” bit for smaller holes?
@thenexthobby the three blade ones like my thumbnail do chew thru really fast. this vid was for if you didn't wanna spend the extra $
Great video!!! Just a few questions. Do you have any tips/recommendations on how to do this for a backyard entry door that's about 22in high might 3 steps and rails (great project for future content video)? Do you have a materials list? Do you have additional tips for uneven slab? Thanks for the feedback, very informative. Great job!!!!!
@JorgeHernandez-ib1px no material list, it'll change based on your layout and such. 22" should be about 3 steps so pretty easy, good luck!
Great thanks!!!!
Unfortunately that’s a temporary fix another blade will fall
@@Rwcreal it's still working after all this time!

Yes
Floors may fail at the shim due to flexing. You needed to use leveling cement to do it properly.
@@13odman guess you missed the part where I did level the worst of it. and the part where fully leveling would've taken 1.5" height away 🤣😂
