I think you're missing the point, Sean. It's not a binary choice. You can't leave a stand up on public land in most states. Hauling in a fixed-position stand a is noisier and heavier (but I still have them hung all over the property I hunt in proven areas/funnels). Climbers only work on trees that are relatively straight, have no major limbs up to 15 feet, and are somewhere between 8-20" in diameter. Not only are saddles super-comfortable -- they are far lighter, quieter AND ADAPTABLE TO THE MOST TREES SIZES AND CONFIGURATIONS. I don't use a saddle on every hunt. But on public land, friends property, out-of-state hunts, and when I need to be in a tree that's in the right spot but won't allow either a climber or fixed-position stand -- A SADDLE CANNOT BE BEAT. You comment from a place of ignorance. I've actually used all the methods. It take's me ten minutes to climb because I'm slow, methodical and safe. How long does it take you to set up a fixed-position stand? I'll gladly take that extra time to be in the perfect spot to ambush my target buck. And to answer your first question, it's trending because it works.

Oh c'mon Paul. You actually did watch the vid, commented and earned us a view. Saddle hunting is by far one of the safest elevated methods, because you're always attached to the tree. You literally cannot fall if done correctly. However, saddles aren't for everyone. A man's got to know his limitations, and you obviously know yours 🤣🤣🤣. It is amazing how much the overall saddle equipment has evolved and improved in the few short years since we published this Tbowie13. Saddles, ropes, safety mechanisms, sticks, aiders, platforms, storage devices, carrying systems -- all lighter, quieter and more convenient. The fundamentals demonstrated here are just that, the blueprint to get people started. Glad you enjoyed it and good luck on your saddle hunting journey!

@Mike Carney I hear ya Mike. I spent a small fortune on everything a few years back, so I'll wait a few more years before I upgrade. The system you made was/is awesome. Between keeping up on long range shooting and all the new fishing gear and so on, my saddle equip is good for now. 🤣

Maybe Clint. Either way, I am not going to fall far given my lineman's belt, but it's never a bad idea to play it doubly safe.

It's a safer practice to attach your tether FIRST before transitioning onto your platform Shane. And I should have demonstrated that here.

Many people do indeed use spikes, but I find them a challenge, especially when transitioning to my platform. This vid does a great job showing a true pro apply the technique: ua-cam.com/video/7k4oBD62v1U/v-deo.html

It has changed, but mostly due to the newer saddles styles and the super-lightweight sticks now available from Tethrd and others. I also now attach my tree tether before transitioning onto the platform. Still constantly experimenting on how to pack/organize my kit for the hike in as well to be more quiet and snag free, Josh.

Well, I'm North of 50 and I don't find it anymore challenging physically that setting up a hang-on or using a climber. Keep your stick spacing reasonable and I think you'll find it fairly reasonable to accomplish. One of the methods founding fathers, John Eberhart, is north of 65 and he's still going strong. As long as you commit to practicing your climbing technique and gear sequence, climbing in the dark is no different than other elevated climbing methods. Give it a try and good luck -- it's a fun learning process and it will provide you a world of new tree opportunities to take advantage of!

The advancements in aiders -- both permanently attached and moving -- have advanced so much since the filming of this. Google the subject and you'll find a ton of new and better options. It all depends what you're comfortable with. I find myself using the coated-wire attached aiders more and more due to their convenience and ease of use. Good luck!

Tim: I love my climbing stands, but you're not up a tree in 3:00, unless you've climbed it before -- and it is super straight, 9"-22" in diameter, no tree lean AND no limbs on the way up to stop you dead in your climb at 10 ft high. And this is without even mentioning total weight you have to haul in and the noise of that climber. I've used both extensively. No comparison. With a climber you hunt for the best tree that will accept your stand. With a saddle I choose the best tree TO KILL AN ANIMAL FROM. When you started using a climber it was awkward and you needed some time to workout everything from how to pack it in quietly with your other needed gear to how much angle to put on it at the base of the tree. Saddle hunting is no different. It does take some practice to get acquainted with the best way for you to climb -- BUT IT IS SO WORTH IT! I have faith in your skills and your objectivity to understand the overwhelming advantages in tree availability. You can do it Tim, and you'll be glad you did!

And if you run head on into a truck...so are you. And what happens if you accidentally eat a poisonous mushroom? Probably dead. I'm betting I'm much safer in my saddle than you are orally experimenting with fungus.

Today I typically Amsteel aiders from: customamsteelproducts.com/ , www.backwoodsmobilegear.com/shop-online/multiaider and Eastern Woods Outdoors. All great products and easier than the moving aider I started with. Good luck!
