In Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories, his memories were being actively erased. This caused some things to be fuzzy and much to be completely missing from his memories. Throughout the game, from his perspective, he was meeting these characters all for the first time again. The characters also didn't recognize him due to the fact that they were recreations from his stolen memories, not the real things, causing events to transpire differently... And honestly awkwardly throughout the game. So yes, his memory was quite bad in this game 😂

It never was fully explained... Or at all explained... It could be that it was a translation error, something he picked up from Maleficent because she mentions her using the ability in Ux or the fact that he was still wearing the same clothes made him think everyone stinks when it was just him. He only says it out loud, I believe, in Chain of Memories and it's remake.

Inaccurate. Belle and Beast were not present outside of Hollow Bastion upon Sora's arrival in KH1 as Belle was in a sort of stasis deep within the castle. In Chain of Memories, Sora's memories were taken from him and he encountered people from the first game as if it were the first time meeting them. This is because "rooms" were made from his memories and these weren't the actual characters but a sort of temporary replica. The situations were different than the original story such as in this shot where Belle is interacting with the Beast whereas in KH1 they didn't reunite until the end of the game. Chain of Memories for the GBA and this remake of it is often overlooked due to its awkward card based combat mechanics. However, it does tie KH1 and KH2 together as it continues right where the after credits scene left off in KH1 and explains how Sora ended up sleeping in a pod better in KH2.

Same location, different scenario. Beast & Belle never had a dispute near the entrance, Maleficent had already captured Belle & the other princesses. Donald & Goofy would've been following Riku after Sora lost the Keyblade, leaving Beast with Sora.
