It was received well, with the audience asking for an encore. After Michigan temporarily withdrew from the western conference in 1907, a new Michigan fight song “Varsity” was ...

Old vs New Rocky Top
Переглядів 11 тис.5 місяців тому
Rocky Top" is a favorite of UT fans, alumni, and others who sing it while the Tennessee Volunteers play at Neyland Stadium and Thompson-Boling Arena. The House of Bryant in Gatlinburg, their publishing company, has granted the University of Tennessee a perpetual license to play the song as much and as often as success on the field dictates. The song was first played on October 21, 1972, during ...

Tiger rag compared
Переглядів 2669 місяців тому
The first “Tiger rag” was recorded in 1917 by “The original Dixieland jazz band” and has since been one of the most adopted jazz songs for college bands. There are four major universities that play Tiger rag as of 2024, so I figured it would be fun to compare them. The order goes as follows Clemson 00:00 LSU 01:15 Auburn 02:06 Mizzou 03:06 Memphis 03:35

When wentzek has a “easy” job for you.
Wish there was a recorded version of the full song with their little windup that they do before going into Rocky Top. Seems you only hear it played in their marches. Edit: Lol, nevermind, I seem to have found a version of it ua-cam.com/video/9At5o_IF_t0/v-deo.html
Nobody who is an Alabama fan cares for Phillip Fulmer, the current athletic director or Josh heupels for their arrogance.
Bama fans in northeast Alabama especially hate Tennessee!
It's Tennessee week!
It is alabama-tennessee with a top 10 showdown at neyland stadium Saturday. This is a throw back rivalry going back to the 1960s and 1970s when I was born. There is no love loss between these 2 fan bases. Nobody who is an Alabama cares for Phillip Fulmer and Josh heupels arrogance. It's always a lot of emotion because it's midway point of season. Brings chills down my spine this week. But especially for bama in northeast Alabama. Ernest t bass is a perfect example of what Tennessee fans. Bama fans never get tired of beating Tennessee.
Bama lost to a team that lost to Georgia State. lol
Has Neyland always looked like it was under construction?
Obviously the one from the school that the composer taught at 😏
Yale's sounds like everybody in the UT Band got drunk.
Both old and new are great in their own right! Go Blue!
Do the then vs now BYU!!!
Tennessee is the correct version
We need a combo of both versions. The new versionhas too much going on at the start of it yet finishes with a nice ummph of energy!!
Agreed
I like the original better, but in some fairness, most of the notes are the same, except for the bass noted in the comments. The more recent recording sounds like the woodwinds were in another room or something 😅as well as being played by a much larger group. It was also recorded during the short-note period, from which the band is slowly recovering.
We beat Bama! #gbo (no offense to crimson fans but..) #alabamasucks!
I prefer the later version's harmonization where the words "Rocky Top Tennessee" would go. Rather than going up to the supertonic, they move the bass line to the subtonic, which sounds significantly better. IMHO...
The band has a nicer tone in the earlier performance, though.
lol I love the percussion of the later version.
Not saying that the new one isn’t good by any means
Most famous anthem to a University program in the entire southeast. When folks hear Rock6 Top, there is no doubt about where your from or who you support.
Florida State warchant can count as an athem.Neck,Rammer jammer and more lol
@@FSUSZN Rocky Top is still #1 by far

Fight Vols Fight!! Go Big Orange, carry the fight to the sooner!
I am a UGA fan but when our fight song grows up it will be like "Rocky Top"! As a Southern, I simply love "Rocky Top".......GO DAWGS!!!
cool to hear this coming from a GA fan!!! GBO!!!
Of course, it takes a back seat to "Rocky Top" at Tennessee, and Yale has so many songs that it doesn't get much prominence there. I now think of it as Nevada's song.
I really disagree with you about Coastal Carolina. After the lead-in of rising tones, the first line of the song is unlike anything I have heard in other fight songs. Very innovative. Also, it has more variety than just repeating the same verse a few times. One of my favorite fight songs. On the other hand ... Colorado State's Stalwart Rams sounds like a takeoff written by someone who couldn't get "CU Fight" out of his mind. So kudos on that one.
I definitely agree with you about "Stalwart Rams" sounding very related to "CU Fight". I would venture to say that it is also reminiscent of UNCC's fight song! Very interesting indeed.
Ironic that it was first played against Oklahoma! Gonna be played a lot this weekend!! Go Vols!!!
Utah Man is better
New is better for Michigan University Fight song
I like auburn best
New. More brass. Go Coogs!
Its getting harder to tell which music is ai anymore💀
They're both fantastic. When you think of the technology back then, that songs great either way. Like a classic jazz song.
very cool video
I think Nevada has the best one
I think Yale's is better tbh
Lmao Memphis
Southern California, not "USC". The real USC was founded before California was even a state.
Well, if you can get me a vintage recording of the Carolina band, I'll happily make a video.

GO BLUE
The Lyrics to Varsity are: Men of Michigan onto victory, Ev'ry man in ev'ry play. Michigan expects her Varsity to win today! Rah! Rah! Win for Michigan! Varsity, Down the field. Never yield, Raise high our shield. March on to victory for Michigan, And the Maize and Blue. Oh Varsity, We're for you, Here for you to cheer for you. We have no fear for you. Oh Varsity!
Let's take into account the ability to record from black and white and in color recording has come a long way from the past
