Its currently the best Victory out there. However, Chris Watton (Vanguard Models) has designed a 1/64 kit for Amati which is way much better than the Caldercraft kit. Unfortunately it has never been released and put on hold. Amati is not sure they can make a profit on it considering how much parts it has.
Thanks for the demo Grant. I found it very interesting. It's nice to have that capability, and not be forced to use the parts supplied in a kit. Or be able to replace something that is broken or doesn't fit well. anyway thanks again.
Hi Gordon, your welcome, its been very handy on this build.
Great work Grant. Really impressed with the laser printer. Opens up a world of possibilities. Had to laugh at the sign in the background also 😅
Thanks Greg, definitely a useful tool, this is the most I have used it on a build. I got the sign from my Daughter for Christmas last year.
Please. Cut the volume. Can't hear clearly most of what you're saying, Mate!
Hi thanks for your comment, the music volume has been addressed in later Videos, this is one of the first videos where I added voice, and I was still trying to sort everything out.
ciao, ottimo lavoro, la corda l'hai fatta tu, ci fai vedere come la fai. hi, great job, you made the rope, show us how you make it...😊
Ciao, purtroppo non ho realizzato la corda, è qualcosa che mi piacerebbe fare, devo sistemare una camminata su corda, realizzarne una o comprarne una.
Hello, found you as well :) Impressive display of craftmanship, congratulations!!
Hi Curtis, lol thank you.
Grant, Great work as always Thank you
Thanks Jay.
Having your own laser cutter. *drewl* And yes you could do that easier, if this is somewhat like autocad. You could do a quarter, the mirror on the x or y axl, then mirror again. But the result is amazing.
Hi Martin thanks, it comes in handy, I must admit this is the most ive used it on a build, your correct I found the option for mirroring.
Amazing! I am jealous of 3-d printing and making your own parts. But it looks great!
Thanks Joe, you know what to ask for for Christmas
@@g-kip I have been very nice...
Very nice chain pumps Grant. Congrats I believe this is not part of the kit but your own design. Correct? Where did you get the plan for the chanin pumps?
@@gilbertmeldener5199 hi Gilbert, no not part of the kit, i made them from plans I found and photos of HMS Victory
Hi GKip I am not sure to understand why you are making so much modifications to the frames and creating a lower deck? Isn't the lower deck part of the kit?
Hi Gilbert, firstly thank you for becoming a member and supporting the channel, the lower two decks are false on the kit, there is a strip of wood fed through the frames which gets painted black, and dummy cannon barrels are glued on to it. I decided as the gunports are reasonably large on this kit, due to the scale of the model, I would add the two lower decks, adding the details so that if you look through the gunports you will see a more realistic interior, also it makes the kit and build more unique and a little more challenging and fun to build. Do you build model ships? Again thank you for your support.
@g-kip Thanks for your response Grant. It makes sense. Yes, I do build model ships since I was a kid. I am close to finishing the Amerigo Vespucci and the CC Victory will be my next build (early 2025 I believe).
@@gilbertmeldener5199 , thats a great looking ship, as you are a member would you like to show off your build, if you email me some photos I can add them to this weeks video, if you get them to me by tomorrow lunchtime. my email is gkipbuilds@gmail.com
this is a great series. Are you going to post videos on doing the lower hull as well?
Hi Shahram, thank you, I will be continuing, but it wont be for a couple of months, channel viewers voted for HMS Victory build, im currently customising Caldercrafts kit, adding in lots of extra details.
I building this kit for my son who loves all things of the far east. You did a beautiful job on the inner hull! I hope I can do as well. Can you tell me what filler you used? It looks like it is called "Perfect Plastic".
Hi Steven, yes I used perfect plastic putty, i find it it gives a better finish when sanded as it is made for modelling, some wood fillers are not as good when working in smaller scales,
Interesting approach, perhaps there is a wider business opportunity for the cannons as other people might want to adapt the Calder craft kit.
Hi Tony, it could be a possibility, however I would need to redesign the 3d print as opposed to using the purchased design as im sure there are limitations when it comes to reselling.I am thinking about making adjustments anyway, as the details on one side are not as good, also it would be easier if the gun and carriage were seperate especially when it comes to painting.
@@g-kip hi,I think the idea of a separate gun & carriage model is the best way to go, and could different moulding materials. I wondered if Calder craft would refund you for the unused part cannons ? Keep on the good work. Tony
@tonym7366 thanks Tony
Really clever method.....brilliant
Thanks Tony
Hello Grant. Any chance that you could do a demo of your laser printer? Programing and cutting. It's too late in my modeling life to get one but I would love to see the process. Thanks.
I would second that
Hi Gordon, I will sort something out, may take a couple of weeks, and its never too late to try something new.
@@g-kip this would indeed be great learning for many
Grant, always kicking butt! Great job, Going to visit the other channel now.

Grant, simply said BEAUTIFUL work thank you
Hi Jay, thank you very much
Amazing work Grant , looks incredibly realistic! Thanks very much highlighting my channel. I appreciate it mate.
Thanks Greg, your welcome thank you for supporting the channel, have you had more views?
@g-kip not a lot, but my latest video was a Soleil one, which has never had many views. Victory is much more popular as I'm sure you have noticed yourself 😉 I have gained about 15 more subscribers, which may well be a result of your video. Thank you again 😀
Great work, Grant😊 Very nice details 👌 Just out of curiosity, have you seen the newest model (victory) from Artesania Latina? If you have, what are your thoughts about it?:)
Hi Nikki, thank you, I have seen the videos for the new kit, it looks good, but from what I have seen it looks a bit short on details, also the scale of some of the details doesnt look right, there is a white trellice like wall on the lower deck that looks out of scale and stands out to me. Not sure its worth the money they are asking, price wise its the same as the kit im building
@g-kip Yeah, it looks good, but it's way too expensive.. I'm also not super into the open hull idea, but I understand what they are going for.. But thank you for your thoughts 👍
Nice job Greg ! Srry Grant, i don`t have a credit card.
Hi Martin, no worries m8
Great video
Hi Tim, Thanks
ciao, credo che facendo tutti i particolari dovresti rimanere una parte dello scafo aperto. artesiana Latina a lanciato il suo nuovo prodotto:una hms victory tutta aperta sul lato ,guardala. hi, I think that by doing all the details you should remain part of the hull open. Artesiana Latina has launched its new product: an HMS Victory completely open on the side, look at it.
you've seen the new model
Ciao sì, ho visto il nuovo kit, sembra abbastanza buono, anche se mancano ancora molti dettagli
ciao ,credo che per il lavoro che stai facendo..l'apertura laterale sia anche per te un opzione. hi, I think that for the work you are doing... the side opening is also an option for you.
Interessant, danke😂
Vielen Dank für Ihr Willkommen
Wise words, born of years of experience. Start small, start simple, learn the basics - fundamental advice for just about anything in life. I'll be getting my first wooden model kit soon, and it'll be very basic/beginner level. However, once it's built I'll have something that is gorgeous, and I'll be proud to display, and I'll have learned a lot and taken my first steps in this fascinating and rewarding hobby. Thanks for making this excellent video!
Hi Erny, thank you, you will have to let me know what you decide to build, have fun, take your time and enjoy it.
Excellent video! I think the 3 kits from different manufacturers is a great idea - I'm sure each company does things differently - would be great to see their various approaches.
Hi thank you, glad to hear you enjoyed it, I have done 3 videos so far.
Hi! Thank you for the video! I've just bought my first kit :) Googling what I all needed to get started just got me to commercial websites and not any real advice on beginner tools. So in that regard this video was very helpful. I do still have questions. I've never really done any woodworking, so I've got no real experience with sandpaper, wood glue or veneer. Is there something I have to look out for when getting that stuff with respect to wooden ship modelling? Or is it really anything just works?
Hi, any clear drying wood glue will do, with regards sandpaper, you will need to get a few different grades, course to fine, what kit did you get?
@@g-kip Thank you for the advice! I got the Polaris kit from OcCre, it looked like a good one to start with and then move to more difficult but more interesting ships if I like the hobby
Great content Grant 👍👍
Thanks Martin
Great work as always mate. Can I ask what sort of laser cutter you use?
Hi Greg, thanks, its a Sculpfun s30 pro max. Can you email me some pictures of one of your builds so I can feature it on the channel, it should also help with your channel, hopefully get you some more subscribers.
@g-kip thanks mate. I've been meaning too, but I have a shocking memory, lol 😆
I found a 1/72 scale capstan (upper and lower) in the Model Monkey store - thought I might try that source.
Hi, thanks I could 3d print the capstan myself, but decided to make it out of wood, as I find it hard to match the wood colour
True - I’ll be practicing my wood simulation painting skills
Grant, perfect work you never cease to Amaze me thank you
Hi Jay, Thank you.
My opinion- Unless you called attention to the holes, when complete no one except yourself would ever notice that they are round.
I agree with you however a true master builder only seeks to satisfy himself and no one else. In other words the lack of knowledge is acceptable, but knowing how and what to strive for in accomplishing is always a addictive satisfaction only a few can understand
Hi Gordon, once ive put the lighting in it might tempt people to look, but on the other hand everyone who has seen the videos will see it so its not like it will never be seen,
Well said sir. I would agree that Mr. Kip is one of those builders.
Do you plan to leave openings in the hull planking to make it easier to view this fantastic detail that’s going on the lower decks
Hi, I wasn't planning too, as a lot should be visible through the gunports
Good job, Grant
Thanks Wolfgang
Looking good Grant !
Thanks Martin
Looking good Grant. Curious to know what laser printer you’re using to cut out the wood?
Hi Phil, thanks, its a Sculpfun s30 pro max
@@g-kip Thanks Grant. Very tempting 😃
Hi! Re: your request for making square holes... if you had lasercut your capstan head in three layers, you could have cut slots into the middle layer (hopefully I have explained that clearly!)
Ahh Neil, thats a brilliant suggestion, thought never even occurred to me, thanks.
Yes I would like to build and review 3 kits
Hi James, I have done 3 videos
Yes blesings
Thank you
Ywa, I would like to see more of your planking method and especially how you make the rabbit. Also, why is there two sets of captions? It makes reading either more difficult?!?
@@markdeschane4467 Hi Mark, did you watch part one, i believe i marked out and cut the Rabit. With regards the double captions, ive fixed that issue on later videos.
Stop the music
Hi the music volume has been reduced in later videos, this is one of my first videos with voice as opposed to captions, and I hadnt got the volume sorted out.
Grant, brilliant work as always thank you for sharing
Hi Jay, thank you, and your welcome.
Great detail as always.. What laser cutter are you using please ? 👍👍
Hi Martin, thanks, the laser cutter is a sculpfun s30 pro max,
@@g-kip Thank you 👍
Hi, what brand table saw are you using please?
Hi, its a cheapy off Amazon Novellife, its ok for cutting thinner pieces of timber and ply, hard wood not so good, struggles with anything over 10cm, I wouldn't recommend it for heavy duty work.
Brilliant work Grant. Love the gratings you made. Now I need a laser thingy, although I'd probably cut a body part off ;)
Thanks Greg, you would be safe most have an auto cut off if its moved, hmm got me thinking maybe I could do a side line in tattoos.
Marvellous work
Hi Wolfgang, thanks, not quite up to your standard yet, but im working on it.
Very nice Mr Kip!!. Did you sort out the scale difference? Was it related to the metric conversion/standarization?
Hi James, I was advised the distance between the Mizzan Mast and Main Mast, and adjusted the measurements accordingly, may not be 100% accurate but its going to be pretty close, you can call me Grant, Mr Kip a bit too formal lol.
@@g-kip Very exciting. Thanks again Grant.
Looking great! It amazes me...BTW, did you forget the link in the description, or I am going blind? Anything is possible at me age.
