This is awesome. My wife and I just bought an empty tiny cabin. Looking to do something similar. God bless!
Really quite simple. Just make a box and tie it into the wall studs. A square support on the end would be a little easier, but the log adds a nice touch to the cabin. Thanks for watching.
@ the log on the end is simple and something people will love. My family has a wood mill outside of Palmer so I’m excited to utilize the local wood.
@ awesome we just got home from our biweekly supply run into Palmer. For “town” it’s not too bad. Good luck on your build.
you can get the disposables as full you jsut have to purge. regardless the most efficient way is to buy the hose adapter and run a bigger tank.
For the convenience and ease I have found these to be worth it for sure.
The Alaskan DoorDash LMAO
Yeah standard door dash doesn’t work out here…
What an amazing trip. And an inspiration for me as a father to make sure I’m spending that quality time with my kids. I appreciate that you go with the flow rather than forcing schedule, which would be my problem.
Glad it could be an encouragement. They grow up so fast, and we have such a short time to impact who they will become in this world. Working on this project has forced me to go with the flow. Everything takes so much longer when you are hours from supplies.
what was the tape you used around the door and windows????
It is a flexible door and window tape made to water seal. It’s tar based. Tape it in a way that water will always shed down, and no tape on the bottom in case any water got in before it it would be able to drain out. Trim and siding then will go over all of this hopefully this winter.
That's a trip your daughter will remember for the rest of her life! 👍
Love creating memories with the family.
Looked like a great trip all in all. That was awesome you got to spend some great memory-making time with your daughter.
Always the best part of cabin trips is time with the family.
Aaron, you are making me homesick! Great video
Come float the river with us.
@makingitinalaska well our larger cabin hasn't sold yet, so might be up there next year : ) Always wanted to get over to gravel creek again when there's no snow. Rode across in Phil's truck once to get firewood, with water up to the side mirrors. Your method looks much better
Very true, but we aren’t getting much firewood back across the river this way.
❤Your daughter's wonderful laughter on the 'scary' river was priceless!🙏🏽Prayers up for more dads to bring their daughters to the wilderness!!💖
They were nervous laughs for sure, but she had a great time.
👍🎃
Thanks for watching.
What a beautiful place! Good times.
Sure is. We are blessed to get to enjoy this area.
Hello I'm new to your channel i love seeing the beauty of Alaska, i live in Wisconsin we don't have snow yet but I'm busy getting prepared.
Thanks for watching. We are under snow here unfortunately. I have a new video coming out Saturday that I’m sure you will enjoy. It was filmed over a month ago while we were in the middle of beautiful fall colors.
You’re inviting you a bear!
Perfect. Then I can put him on my wall… we do have quite a few bear in the area, but they don’t like people and are rarely drawn to people food like they are in populated areas. That is the reason for the plywood we use to shutter the doors and windows. But after a couple of years of owning this cabin nothing has tried to break in.
Great job
Thanks for watching.
You make me a nervous wreck with your unsafe use of power tools.
I assume you are referring to the jigsaw usage... Thanks for the concern. Sometimes you have to live your life on the edge, and use the tool you have when in the wilderness.
New sub, enjoyed the video. Glad to hear that you’re a believer.
Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching.
I love to see the nature❤❤❤❤
Absolutely beautiful area for sure.
Get your solar panel off the ground k and put another one with it build a decent rack you won't be disappointed 👍
All in good time…
@@makingitinalaska Great vid, just wanted to mention batteries perform better at human comfortable temps. You'll get better charging results if you can put the battery inside and insulate it
Lead acid off gasses when charging. Very unsafe indoors. Switching to lithium this winter. Will be insulated and stored indoors when it’s safe to do so.
❤Way, way, way back in the days of my childhood, I went to a place called Victory Bible Camp. Can't remember exactly where it was located in Alaska, but it was about horses and Jesus. I was the only Native girl there and was severely lost. One of the men said, "Jesus is coming back again." And I believed!! So, this is a thankful, grateful, shout out to all the men who serve the Lord, who don't give up on lost little children, God bless you!!
Praise the Lord. Any chance you burned your name or initials in the wall in the Ranch Hotel? Would love to make a connection with that for you. We have been around Victory here since 2002, but still have connections with the Ranch leaders from the beginning. What year range would you have been here?
@@makingitinalaska It was so long ago. I think it was maybe 1970-ish? Looking back at the face of the man in my memory, he was a very young man with blonde hair and blue eyes. Altho, at the time, I thought he was old!! I never wrote or burned my name on anything, nor remember anyone doing that. My horse's name was LightFoot. Not really mine, but I fell in love with that horse!!! He was black and spirited, and dancy-prancy, and I loved him so much❤
@@shiammi907 That is great. Would have been the early days of Ranch camp, and likely the hotel didnt exist yet. Campers for decades have branded their name in the wall of that lodge when they make a salvation decision while at camp. Tim was likely the horse guy. I still see him regularly. I will ask him if he remembers Lightfoot. So great to hear stories of God at work through this ministry. There have been so many stories since as well. Blessings to you.
@@makingitinalaska During the last breakfast at Victory Bible Camp, a red bandana was given to me as an award for being the best all around horseback rider...but it really wasn't me that deserved it. It was Lightfoot with his liveliness that made me look good. Pretty sure all the other horses were more docile. I hope the man named Tim remembers him!! That would thrill me to no end🙏🏽The Good Lord bless all of you!!💖
@@shiammi907 I talked with Tim tonight he never had blond hair, so it must have been one of the other wranglers, but he did remember lightfoot. He said it was a great horse.
Great time watching manny!
Thanks for watching.
Not subscribing because of the bible thumping.
I will never hide who I am. I have many faults, but I strive to be more like Christ all the time. It is a continual process. My conviction to share what Christ has done in me is why I put my videos in a public light. It can not be about the subscriber count. Thanks for watching.
Hi from Australia 🇦🇺 God bless you🙏your doing things slowly which is great. And eventually you’ll achieve what you want. And I’m a believer too in God almighty amen too that.😊
Slow and steady. Blessing to you. Would love to visit your part of the world someday.
The butter drop was so funny.
Just because he can’t land doesn’t mean he can’t help out. Thanks for watching.
I’m a newbie to your channel 👋 and a believer in Christ 🙏 bless you
Welcome, and thanks for watching.
Gods are myths
OK your freshly delivered butter got me to subscribe! That says a lot about you and your friends. The cabin is looking really sweet.
I am surrounded by some amazing people. Thanks for the sub. Hope you enjoy some of the rest of our content. More to come this winter.
Ive found you guys and enjoy all I’ve seen. Keep it up.
Always good to hear from new viewers. Thanks for watching.
The butter airdrop was hilarious
Just the Alaskan way. Butter is tricky, but I’ve heard of root beer float drops… that would be amazing.
Yay to moving the switch! I told Matt you would never do it 😂. Hope to one day meet you. Blessings
So you are the one… he said there was someone from his church that made that comment… if it was an outlet you would have been right for sure… taking out that old box actually took me about 30 minutes because I did not have the right tools.
I'm new to your channel. I served in a Bible camp in the summer of 2022 on the Kenai Peninsula. It was very rewarding and humbling. I miss the children campers and staff. It was hard to leave and return to the lower 48. I fell in love with Alaska. Originally, I asked the Lord, I want to be a Bible counselor but not in Virginia. I asked Him to open the door I would step through. He did. And in less than a month I was on an airplane to Alaska! ✝️🙏❤️
Awesome praise the Lord. We serve up north east of Palmer. We really enjoy seeing the lord work through all the summer staffer we have come through as well.
Enjoyed coming along with you through the lens of the camera. The cabin is sure looking nice.
It’s coming along… just tinkering here and there. I don’t want to go to the cabin and work too hard.
I've been thinking about you. So glad that you got some alone time and some time to spend with your family. Enjoy your sabbatical.
Yup just checking back into UA-cam. This was filmed in May. The sabbatical was an amazing time as a family. More of that to come. Just trying to get caught up on the footage from this summer. Should be able to get back to the cabin on snow machines in about a month.
Finally! Waited all summer for this video
I was too busy having fun.
I miss Matthew
What happend with earlier owners?
Life happened. The remote nature of the location of our cabin means it takes at least twice as long to do anything… maybe three times. Kids grew up. Relationships get hard. A remote cabin in the woods just lose priority. Hopefully we can recover what they started.
Do you think you are going to be able to save it?
The bottom row or two of logs o. The front wall are rotting. Otherwise they all just seam weathered. We really won’t know how much we can save until we start tearing it apart. We are hopeful.
Looks like the old cabin will be a lot of work but it'll be worth the effort. You've done a great job with what you have accomplished so far. Really liked the photos on the wall in the new cabin. Your family will remember these good times for the rest of their lives. I know that some of my best memories are from my childhood at our family cabin in the north Georgia mountains. Stay safe.
Thanks for continuing to follow our journey. These videos are all a part of the memory for us as well.
Maybe you could try and pressure wash the whole cabin then stain it
No well… no power… possible, but difficult. Thanks for the idea.
🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thanks for watching.
Sure hope you can save the cabin. Looks like quite a bit of work went into it. Sad they couldn't keep it up.
That is our hope too, and the people we purchased from. It would be great to take them out there once it is complete.
The T&G is lookin sweeeet!👊
The stuff isn’t cheap, but it classes up the place so much. And relatively easy install if you have help for the longer pieces.
I've put in so much t&g over the years. I'm glad I'm now watching you younger folks do it :)
Fun memories are easier to make when you’re young. Thanks for watching.
Chelsea, that side eye you gave while using the nail gun was SO relatable 😂
She just doesn’t really like being on camera, but then complains about how the entire videos are all about me building… can’t win.
Quote "it's starting to look sooo good." I agree. That is really looking nice. Good job you guys.
Thanks. Still have to get you guys out there.
@@makingitinalaska Would love to go.
Hopefully next year we can think more about enjoying the cabin and less about working.
@@makingitinalaska I hear ya. For years Connie and I would look up at our ceiling of our remote cabin and say we need to finish that ceiling some day. That "some day" was long in coming but we did finally get it done. We have yet to do something around the stove pipe opening to finish that though. Not sure what we are going to do there. Don't tell no body but I'm silently watching your cabin build videos to see what you do there , if anything. :O)
@Far-North-Bushcraft-Survival well you are going to have to wait until next winter to see that one… I have a plan.
It's really looking great! Good job.
Thanks for watching.
“Called in a favor” *drops care package* I’d hate to be this guys enemy
Neighbors take care of each other here in Alaska. Good people.
The 🧈 are you kidding 😅
No oil or anything else for the cast iron… I might have died without it. ;)
Wow, lucky you 😂
Lucky in deed.
Now that’s a friend.
I think his exact words were, “I’ve been looking for more excuses to fly.”
You forgot the butter AND the wife…
Do I need to see if I can get another airdrop?
Looks like you built a very serviceable facility that should stand the test of time for many years to come. At our home, even though we have indoor plumbing, I still miss not having an outhouse also. If the house restroom is occupied, it would be great to have the option of using an outhouse. I had to use the outhouse at our remote cabin this winter when it was 37 degrees below zero Fahrenheit. I did not linger but got the job done ASAP and back to the warmth of the cabin. lol
Absolutely. After getting this one done I have debated having one on the fancy side of the river.
