I'm Ant Gough and I live in Evesham UK. Follow me whilst I bring cars back to life, maybe.
I've been fixing crash damaged cars since I was teen, Don't know why I never documented this stuff before. I don't work as a mechanic I work in IT. Whatever IT is.
I fix cars up for myself to save a bit money. It saves my family some dosh by being able to do this mechanical stuff. Have you seen how much getting new brakes fitted can cost. Though I'm told I'm to optimistic. Once I was told I was mad and that would never see the road again,
I'll have a go a fixing anything, including a house repossession I bought from the bank. It was a state.
Now to be transparent my old man / dad repaired cars for a living for a while and I helped out during school holidays for a bit of cash. And when I left school I worked stripping crashed damaged cars for repair for 6 months or so before moving one to other non auto related jobs.

Porsche 997 1 Engine Failure P2
Part 2 of my Porsche 911 / 997.1 with a blown engine.
A while back I bought a damaged 911 repaired and got it re-categorised. I thought I was safe from the IMS and Bore Score Horrors stories. But I was wrong and this problem was an issue ive not heard of before on a 997!
WIll it run again!
How much have I spent!

How I got CAT N removed from Salvage 911 ? #salvage #wrecked #porsche #salvagerebuilds #automobile

After finishing the repairs to the 911 I take it to be inspected at autolign and see if I can get the CAT N recategorized !! Is that even possible? Then I buy the 911 a present! Linktree linktr.ee/antgstuff Instagram ant_gstuff

Porsche 997 salvage - How I did this Easy Repair and fixed Wet door cards
Переглядів 5954 місяці тому
I Picked up what seemed like a very lightly damaged 911 from an auction. Could it really be that easy a repair. Turns out I needed to carry out a repair and a ongoing solution for wet door card as well. Linktree linktr.ee/antgstuff Instagram ant_gstuff

How I got a super cheap MX5 with only 400+ miles on it

I was browsing the salvage auction in my lunch break, as you do, and this extremely low milage MX5 ND popped up with minutes on the auction. So I bid and got it cheap, maybe too cheap! Linktree linktr.ee/antgstuff #mx5 #salvage #mazda #wrecked #mx5nd
Good luck to you. Fortune favours the brave. I’d be sh!t scared to tackle this so respect to you.
Bad luck mate. Good luk with the rebuild.
Interesting content but your mic sucks.
Have noted and a new equipment on way
Hats off, great work 👏👏
Fuck it, put an RS engine in it
You make it sound so easy but I'd be quite intimidated tackling that on my own, I'm an electrician so I can use my hands and I've rebuilt my own two stroke motorcycle engines, but I'd still be mystified at some of the specialist knowledge needed to turn that around. Where did you get the knowledge to do it all?
I found a lot of info on Google, Porsche parts catalog, Porsche forums helped a lot with locating PDFs of relevant specs and procedures.
I dread to think what a Garage would charge for labour, great job 👍
Very impressive work, saved yourself some serious money. I've just had my 3.4 fully rebuilt to a 3.7 at Hartech & it came in at 19k with a few additional items.
Good effort! If you paid yourself £20 an hour labour you’d come out more expensive than hartech. Guess that makes hartech cheap!
Absolutely
Superb job, brave man tackling that, do you have an engineering or engine building background?
My dad was a mechanic and I helped out a bit. Was an apprentice toolmaker for a year when I left school but gave it up to go into IT.
Unbelievably good work. You’ve turned a disaster all the way round to an engine upgrade. I didn’t think this would be possible. Saved yourself thousands too.
Fantastic work!!
What caused that ? IMS bearing ?
No, looked ike a stretched rod bolt. IMS was good when removed
Such a shame , looks like your in a world of pain , it's certainly going to keep your mind occupied sorting this out , if it was me I would ship it off to hartect ....you will save a load of cash as your doing the fitting yourself ... good luck
This is seriously impressive
What cc is it now?
I didn't mention that did I. Hartech recommended 3.9 after they inspected the cases.
Massive respect for just getting on and doing it, I’m sure filming is a real pain, but I’m sure you would get massive interest in far more details on what and how, especially given the rep these engines have (although of course hopefully you won’t need to rebuild one again)
Very nicely done!
Well worked, good job, eventual new crank a bonus in the end. Enjoy!
Great job.had 2 997s and both had engines _
Why isn’t this a recall by Porsche as these 997 engines are poorly designed and all will require an engine rebuild sooner or later.
Brilliant video, top marks for doing the work yourself.
Turned out to be a cheap job when you consider it’s a Porsche 👍👍👍I’m sure dealer prices would be 30 k upwards
patience of a saint, mate, legend!
I can’t believe it absolutely brilliant if anyone else needs there car fixed you know wear to go and who to call 📞
Freaking great effort 👏👏
Great video. Please keep us updated.
Did you have to do anything with the mapping ? Or can it all compensated for itself with the increased displacement?
Biggest load of utter junk those old Porsches are .
Impressive.. I am surprised there is no bed in under 4,000 rpms.
This is terrible misfortune. Sorry for you. I have looked at potentially buying one of these cars for years now. Although I could comfortably buy one, the case for doing so, here in the UK at least, has become ever more tenuous to the extent that I now believe it is a non-viable and pretty pointless proposition. It’s not just that this sort of thing seems far too often talked about to be that rare an occurrence. Then 🎉there are other constant big maintenance costs, the over £700/year VED on post-2006 cars, the ever increasing and cynical ‘average speed’ restrictions etc etc. There are also too many of these 997 Carreras for them ever to have any real investment value, in any reasonable time frame. To me at least, it just seems the hassle plus the constant threat of ‘grief’ is no longer worth it.
Don't be sorry. Was an excuse to make it better with Hartech cylinders. These shouldn't considered an investment. theres too many of them.
awesome work, I enjoyed the video too.
Said it before, 997.1's are a time bomb. Some do some dont. Should not have ever bought a car without IMS done
Problem wasn't anything to do with IMS.
Awesome job pal!! How did they clean up the damage on the combustion chamber in the cylinder head?
No idea I do know they skimmed the head as well. Was a small engineering shop in the black country. Wouldn't know it was there if you walk passed it.
Sound quality was really bad trying to listen to what u saying
Great work! Video title had me worried that the engine had failed again though. 😲😀👍🏾
Fair play to you mate, how rewarding it must feel to have done it yourself.
Well done. Glad you didn’t break it. Great job and not bad price in the end to be fair
Great work! So did you get Hartech to increase the size from 3.8 -> 4.1? Would love to hear what you think of that from a performance perspective.
Great work! I love your chilled attitude towards it all. Was surprised the heads cleaned up so nicely, looked horrible, and thought you might have needed to do more there. The Hartech work looks amazing, expensive, but worth it hopefully. This is diy hero stuff, very enjoyable to watch 👍
Great job, really impressive. It’s not crazy if you have the skills and the determination. If you’re not declaring it then please just ignore this as it’s not meant to be questioning that but would be interested in knowing what the impact is on insurance for the oversized engine…if it’s a lot more and reduces the insurers that will quote, etc.
I'd be tempted not to tell them, no insurance company is going to pay for an engine stripping to check the bore size and if they did you could play dumb. However, admittedly if they did they could avoid paying out.
A dealer told me years ago to avoid the 987 911 for this reason. He said 986 engines were good,, 987 bad, 991 good.
I did the same thing on my old 996 drive way engine removal same manifold s etc it was a satisfying thing to do especially when it started for the first time
sound is terrible ,really hard to listen to
I’m working on updating to better equipment.
Jeez that’s a bargain compared to what we pay over here. I’d say it’s certainly worth the money if you can get past the heartbreak. Congrats!!
Did you say 3000 miles for running in? That’s a lot more than any engine I’ve heard of. I thought 1000 was typical. Mind you, we were told that in the 1970s and knowing the patience of a teenage lad for thrills, not many motorcycles got that. Many of them are still alive on their original engines because they mostly got laid up by 30,000.
Well done & congratulations to you. From your accent, you’re steeped in the techniques and tools required to attempt thou & the motor sounds well.
Thank you! 😃
Wow! Utmost respect sir!
👏👏👏Great job well done hats off to ya ✌️🐸
Absolutely brilliant great watch
