The hedgehog knows that it is very prickly. Really, I would not want to bite into a hedgehog. I touch one every once in a while and it does hurt my hands. Hedgie was not in danger.

@@talltreesnaturereserve There are some in our garden. One year I accidentally dug one up in my compost pile in spring. I was working with my hands, so there was no injury to the sleeping hedgie. I poked my fiingers on him. At first I thought there were a bunch of raspberry brambles under the dirt, until I noticed that it was breathing. Thankfully it was already warm enough, so he had no trouble finding food when I gently expelled him from the heap. I also had to rescue the one or other from the street throughout the years. And last year I took in a baby who was far too small to make it through winter. Sadly it still passed away.

One of our hogs has a dodgy rear right leg, one is a female & the 3rd is a young male who showed up in January. We did have a 4th, another male with chunk out of right ear but he disappeared in May after visiting 3 years in a row. I have cams everywhere.

This young fox is distracted from eating by something that's going on in the woods!
Jackdaw, woodpigeon and squirrel.
Even on a rainy day blackbirds manage to sing a happy song.
