The WORST Les Paul copies were mid 70s Japanese ones ( Ibanez amoungst others etc,) which were basically hollow guitars with plywood tops, really cheap tuning machines and bolt on necks.... No Chibsons wete built with bolt on necks..
Very Cool, Thankyou Steve. Interesting video and info, congrats on Awesome SG deals. Was never interested in SG's until a Bargain 2011 black Epiphone showed up locally a couple of years ago. WOW. what an amazing guitar, awesome. Watching from Western Australia. Recently watched a Styx band 'Live at Winterland 1978' youtube video. OMG. I had no idea ..... they had guitarists??? hahaha.... And they ROCK. Not just a 'easy listening synth band with high pitched vocals ..... like I wrongly thought.... Have been learning/playing some of their music. Man in the Wilderness, Crystal Ball and others ... amazing songs. All the Best. Cheers
Always appreciate the positivity in your videos.

I'm in Montecito Heights Los Angeles. The tone is kind of like a Rat distortion into a Randall amp or Marshall Valvestate which were both solid state but great sounding heads. That is the overall tone of the band Obituary & The White Zombie LaSexercisto Devil Music Volume One album. Except you need more presence, treble, drive or something. Definitely got enough low end though. I don't know what amp he's using but I think I see a Roland 212 of some sort behind him?
I'm using a Roland JC-40, along with a Kustom Hustler 4x10 combo.
it was not good enough, I sold it at the other day of receiving it. I will try the Mosky Spring reverb
I've heard good things about the Mosky.
This thing sounds horrible! Then again, I can't stand the sound of a fuzz pedal. That spit and sputter sound just about drives me nuts, in a bad way!
Thanks for an excellent demo. I almost bought this for £18.00 on AliExpress last night. I'm glad I didn't 😅
Nice ! Is it stereo? I'd like to hear it in stereo !
really funny video dude. Keep pushing the comedy too many boring videos
@@anthonydoyon976 Agreed. I deliberately set out to always be interesting; having sat through too many boring vids.
I have a squier addiction, a katana addiction and line 6 addiction.. 7 guitars and 8 amps lol
@@robphillips8351 I've owned piles of Squiers and several Katanas. Excellent value, both.
It looks like the pickup placement is correct on the piece you got, the others two videos the guy mentions that.
Yes, I got lucky on that.
Sounds great!! You put alot of thought into that rig. Very nice options.
Thanks! It has definitely been a journey.
What I don't like about the new chug metal with the dropped c tuning, I just don't think it's very challenging music for someone just starting out, the lead lines can get shreddy but other than timing, the rhythm parts are quite boring and seem way to easy to play,if your learning was steeped in classic rock, you can learn the new chug easy,if you start with chug you will be stuck trying to play other genres,of music, even when I practice to the radio, nothing bugs me more than having to tune down a half step,or more to match the song structure.
@2dazetake I understand. My original music will definitely be more interesting than a lot of the "chug" you describe.
Better pedal psu that's gone- I have 5 fuzzes before rest of my pedal board and a good isolated power supply is vital- I even made my own LC filtering network in a box that makes my pedals essentially silent
Sounds like you're pretty handy with a soldering pen. Wish I was!
Please have your wife or a close pal film the performance where you deploy OPERATION: DOOM RIG!!! 😜
Will do!
Thanks for the review. I've been looking at these for a while but yesterday, finally committed to ordering one having seen every possible review on UA-cam. One year on from your review, these basses are still being praised. Best wishes.
And I'm told you can get them at a substantial discount from Fender direct now.
Is this fuzz face type?
That's my best guess.
Man you touched on everything I'd tell someone who wants to start getting into doom! Any cheap guitar with humbuckers/P90s will doom Tele's will absolutely doom Peavy = perfect Bass amps for guitar are killer
Hey, thanks. I think next I'm going to demonstrate a gig-worthy super-cheap backup rig I just put together.
Got mine today. Love it. Great value. But Sweetwater send me crap candy this time.
Such amazing sustain!
I had one. It sucked. Small as heck though.
I love it, myself.
Hi Steve, Stumbled upon this video and currently watching from the Philippines! I really like how the video is presented, it's like a reminder to all of us that we dont need expensive camera equipment and editing to be entertaining!
Thank you! Eventually, I may improve my productions...
@guitarnutsanonymous7199 i didn't mean for it to be some sort of backhanded compliment, It reminds me of simpler youtube times where everything is intimate and real in a sense
@@AqworldsAuildere I didn't take it negatively at all! I know exactly what you mean about the "old days" before UA-cam got all "Hollywood."
Watching from Utah🛸
Excellent!
Pig lipstick 🐖💄 4 life !! Stoked for you two and the new space!! 🧨🔥
If Gibson had an iota of sense they would reach out to the distributors and get a deal to produce a budget range of Gibsons under license, instead they court Epiphone who now produce guitars as expensive as Gibsons, zero business accumen if you ask me.
I'm guessing their QC would likely improve if they paid their workers a living wage too...
Very Cool, Thankyou Steve and "Loyal Viewer". Am checking out pedal availability to me now ..... Western Australia here about 38C(100F) at 5pm ... OUCH... How do Guitarists (and other band members, i suppose...) 'survive' playing hot stages etc ..... I struggle in the 'relative' cool in my house in heat like this. All The Best. Cheers
We get some serious heat and humidity here in Nashville, too. Interesting enough, as uncomfortable as it can be playing in the heat, it seems to do wonders for my vocal ability and fretboard agility. I'm sure someone smarter than I could explain why.
Sounds good but I'll hold on to my Dunlop Jimi Hendrix band of gypsies Fuzz face
I think there other fuzz is a better one And that cosmic thing is so amazing
Agreed on the COSMIC THING. You definitely don't have to spend a lot to have great tones these days.
How did you not notice it when you ordered it? It's clearly in the photos.
Poor eyesight and tiny photos on a tiny phone. I really should've shopped on my laptop or tablet.
where the hell did you get this guitar? Please
guitarsgarden.com Right now they're sold out; but they'll get more in soon, I'm sure. They seem to build in batches.
Cool video. You remind me of John from Premier Guitar
That's a hell of a compliment. I never miss John's reviews. Thanks!
@ no problem! You should review your straps! That’s quite a collection.
@@guitarnutsanonymous7199have you reviewed that crazy 10 string jazzmaster behind you? I’m intrigued
@Releasethebats123 I showed it once on an episode, but never really reviewed it. You're right- I probably should.
7:59 I'm the scratchy fret guy lol. Great review! One of mine had a bigger neck, like yours, and the other had a much thinner neck. Even with the scratchy frets, all the frets were level on both mine. So can't complain there!
Hey, thanks for checking out my review. I subscribed to your channel right after I watched yours!
@@guitarnutsanonymous7199 You're welcome and thank you! I subbed to you as well
Where did you purchase it from?
guitarsgarden.com That's the Firefly direct website.
@ Thank you!
I have this same guitar, the frets and fretboard were very scratchy. Polish the frets and oil the fretboard, much better. I also upgraded the pickups to GFS Red Actives, big improvement in sound. It depends on if you active vs. passive pickups.
I've used GFS pickups on several guitars and have always been impressed with the sound.
One of best flying v guitar of James but the sound is really killer nice one I like also flying v but not totally yet expert on it
It's pretty cool, for sure.
So a Chinese fake of a fake.
Very Cool, Thankyou. Have been tempted by Baritone Guitar for some time now, but do doubt if I would really get much use out of it, so still hesitating..... All the Best. Cheers
I can't put mine down! Seriously, every time I play one of my baritones, I wind up with new song ideas. Fortunately, the Fitefly baris are cheap enough to take a shot. And you can likely resell it for what you paid if it doesn't work for you.
I have the non relic'd version of the fflv in olive drab. It's definitely a fat arse neck, which bugged me at first, but after getting used to it, it was quite inspiring!
James’s V is also a bolt on neck.
I'd have grabbed an olive drab had it been available. You know I love green... 💚
True. A Japanese Electra, if I recall.
dont alter a thing, you will ruin it
I'm just not a Metallica guy, unfortunately. Plus, at my age, obscene gestures and expletives really don't play well.
@@guitarnutsanonymous7199 I never liked Metallica, gestures and expletives won’t effect your playing. I painted guitars psychedelic, placed stickers on them etc it’s makes not difference
I had a sterling returned it tone wood was not pleasant 😢save my money bought a used one American made 😊much happier now
Yeah, I wound up selling of the Sterling. It was just too heavyweight for my shoulder. Plus, the USA versions have thinner, narrower, more comfortable necks. Tons more $ though.
Whats hilarious, i just got a ffvx that was supposed to be delivered thrusday, then monday, but actually tuesday. Where the stories differ, fedex decided to pierce my box right next to the headstock, luckily just missing it. The word of warning I have on this particular V, I've seen 3 unboxings of it and 2 had the bridge pickup in the wrong spot. Yours luckily has it in the correct position. I just find it odd that they'd somehow screw that up on some.
Congrats on your axe arriving safely. I saw the videos about the odd pickup placement. I found it really odd too. I'm definitely glad mine doesn't have that issue.
@@guitarnutsanonymous7199 curious about misplaced pups. were they blatant, or just a little crooked?
@ROCKNROLLMODS the bridge pick-up was too far forward. Towards the neck. Easily fixed by just buying a new pickguard properly cut. These type of Vs just have huge chunks cut out big enough to house three pick-ups. The pickguard is the only thing holding them in place. So just replacing the pickguard should fix that.
I’m planing on getting a Flying V if I do I’ll probably be my weapon of choice for a long time
I'm finding it surprisingly comfortable to play. Much better than I'd always imagined.
Sounds good
Yeah, not bad at all; just a little lower output than I'd expected.
I have the Moon, now imma need the Sun. The wife.. she will not be pleased.
I feel ya! The SUN is worth every penny though.
Thanks for the video man, they are great value. I would love a little look inside. I built a rangemaster recently that picked up an Islamic propaganda station !!!
That's awesome! I really wish I had the skills to build my own stuff.
@ac30helix44: the inside has six surface mount transistors, and a load of other smt stuff, so no interference from foreign stations (or local taxis) I suspect.....
lel
this looks like my vintage EHX small stone that I am afraid to use or break I need one of these thanks! Behringer is on fire these days.
I gotta agree. The new series of pedals are gonna shake the industry.
One of the best guitars I bought this year is a Firefly FFSP with solid ash top, maple fretboard, set-through neck joint, and belly cut. It definitely needed some hands-on refinement, but it is the most enjoyable LP type guitar I have ever owned. That includes Gibson Custom Shop and ESP Standard series models I have owned. Just getting a finished body and neck with stainless frets is insane.
Indeed. Those stainless frets are a total game-changer; unheard of at these prices.
