How to thaw frozen cells – starting your human primary cell culture
Thawing cells correctly is essential for successfully starting reliable cell cultures.
In this video, we show you how to thaw cells and prepare human primary cells for your research. You’ll learn:
- what to prepare before the thawing process.
- what you need to pay attention to before thawing.
- how to successfully thaw human primary cells.
- how to start your cell culture.
Note: Alternatively, you can also dilute the thawed cells in a 1-to-10 ratio with medium, remove the DMSO by centrifugation, and then seed the cells in growth medium. (2:30)
A good preparation along with an appropriate speed and good technique will make your cells happy.

i read that the mycoplasma are in ne membran of the cells. so.. are there enough in the media surround or is it better to take cell suspension ( when you have adharent cells)?
Hi Johanna, the vast majority of mycoplasma species are located extracellularly, i.e. outside the cell. This is also true for the mycoplasmas that are normally found in cell cultures. For PCR-based detection of mycoplasmas in cell cultures, culture supernatants have proven to be a very suitable sample material. We hope it helps :)
Are any animals killed during the extraction of Trypsin from their pancreas ? Or can it be done without killing the animal ?
Hi Samrat, thanks for your question. Porcine trypsin is isolated from pancreatic glands, which are a by-product of the meat industry. Keeping pigs only for trypsin production would not only be too expensive, but probably also ethically unacceptable.

great question. They might just be in a mutualistic or commensal relationship with us. However, if it is parasitic, then major health issues would've been found a long time ago.
Let's see. Pneumonia, STDs, arthritis, skin lesions, and multiple immune issues. These are just some of the known. It also depends on the strain. The incognitus strain being the most severe. It was discovered in 1987, in AIDS patients.
