Grayling Outdoors
Canada
Приєднався 14 лют 2012
I live in northeastern Ontario and have a love for the outdoors. I'm still getting to know the area and my activities will be expanding as I become more familiar with it.
A lot of my activities involve fishing - I love smallmouth bass and northern pike. In the fall I do a lot of grouse hunting and in winter I ice fish.
I'm no expert at what I do but I learn what's best for me by practical experience.
I can be contacted at GraylingOutdoorsCda@outlook.com

First Ice Fish Of The Year
A take my ATV and sled to a local lake for my first ice fish of the year. It hasn't been that long since the ice has been thick enough to walk or drive on.
I don't catch anything but test out some equipment.

Shotgun: POI vs POA
Переглядів 3362 місяці тому
Field shotguns are usually set up to shoot a 50/50 pattern at 40 yards. So, the point of impact (POI) is the same as the point of aim (POA). What does this mean for closer shots. I shoot most of my grouse at 10 yards or less. At the beginning of the season I was missing quite a lot of easy close shots until I did a test with some targets. Since incorporating the results into my shooting I have ...
Thanksgiving Ruffed Grouse Hunt

I get a couple of ruffed grouse on Thanksgiving Day here in Northern Ontario. It's a typical cool fall day and most of the leaves have changed colour and a lot have fallen, which makes it easier to see the grouse in the bush.
ATV Tour and Fishing

I visit a few local lakes on my Cfmoto Cforce 600 Touring ATV. I do a little shore fishing although I don't catch anything. I get drone shots of Slipper and Crystal Lakes.

Nice video. I just purchased the smaller version Woods "Toaster". I've used it once, found it somewhat difficult to set up alone. Maybe just need practice. Quality seems good except the ice pegs were a bit difficult to get started, even with a drill.
Hi, there's a knack to setting up the tent, especially if there's some wind. Make sure that you clear as much snow away before putting in the ice anchors.
@@bobalong1952 check the tips of your ice anchors. I had to grind a couple sharper with a Dremel.
@@bobalong1952 ua-cam.com/video/5bWfvQrYpMs/v-deo.htmlsi=waF53HXoZRCmcNhy This may help
I have couple of Gamme 8 PC with the floor attachment. Sleep 1 adult and 1 child in each tent. Really like the tent. Did your Gamme 8 PC come with Velcro strap or buckle strap for compression? My first Gamme 8PC came with buckle strap but the recently purchased Gamme 8 PC came with Velcro compression strap. I setup the Gamme 8 PC on my own always and it takes me around 15 minutes. I find it easy following the official Nortent YT channel video on how to setup the Gamme 8.
@@techwhizard hi, yes it came with compression straps.
Very easy to do oil change yourself. Cfmoto sell the oil change kit....$100. Oil and filter.
@@useryggfdcc hi, I change the oil in all my vehicles and outboard. Easy enough with the right tools 😊
@GraylingOutdoors The front diff oil change is super easy too. There is another one...can't remember exactly where now but fluid changes are one of the most important things to do on any vehicle. My experience from working in aviation for 30+ years.
Keeping a wing on is just a migratory bird reg but then again never a bad thing to go above and beyond. Just one thing always pains me to see half the game meat tossed away. Braised grouse legs(and for the more adventurous heart/liver/gizzard) makes for a great meal and really doesn't take anymore time to recover. Waste not want not and something to consider.
I encountered one on a street by my house.. He tumbled down after climbing over the backyard fence into my neighbor's backyard.. He was breathing heavy and would not pick up the carrot I dropped on the ground 😅
How are your tires on the ice.
@@jayone7437 hi, I air down to around 7 psi. It slides around a lot in 2 wheel drive and is way better in 4wd.
@@GraylingOutdoors Normal tire pressure for the 600 2up is 6.5 PSI. I have exactly the same one, 2024 600 2up in camo. Super easy to do all the oil changes yourself. May come visit Eliot lake and explore the area.
@@useryggfdcc I should have read the manual earlier. When I got the ATV from the dealer the tire pressure was 8 psi. How low do you go in the snow?
@@GraylingOutdoors Haven't done much snow driving yet. Last time I took some back road the pressures was at regular pressure, 6.5 ish. I need to play around with it first. I did get a manual pump to inflate the tires again......need to play with it.
Thanks for sharing beautiful scenery
You're kind of dangerous dude !
They don’t like carrots but they sure eat onion rings. 😂😂
@@cynthia4680 Red, white or yellow onions 😂
Looks like it was a great day! As a gun nut I have to admit, I liked that you covered your gun and we got to see a pattern. I'm a sucker to know what's going out for grouse, as well as the going out. Beautiful conditions out there in Ontario, if I want to hunt grouse til the end of the year I'll need to be walking in almost 2 feet of snow already!
@@larkenkuznetsov3413 hi, our season closes 31 December and it hasn't snowed yet but soon. Thanks for watching.
Tha 12:43 nks Rodd, yes I use #6 shot full choke 3" 410. If you recall, my first shot was also high and to the left similar to yours.

Hey Rod good stuff. I know these areas well, won't be long now before we are on the hard water. Hoping for a better winter than last year. Been hitting the trails and videoing a bit myself, anything outdoors gets a nod from me. Take care and stay safe!
@@DunksAdventures-gh5tg hi, yes, I hope it's a better ice fishing season. I'll still do some bass fishing and of course it's also bird season.
Uncle penis good shots😅
Nice video!
@@JohnPurchase99 Hi, thanks. It was a nice fall day. I'm lucky here as I don't have to go far for good bird hunting.
Keep the videos coming. I find them helpful and entertaining as I live where you do and also ATV and fish. Cheers.
@@user-bx8yx9ye4n Happy Thanksgiving. There's so much to explore here. This is a great area to live in (if you like the outdoors) 😊
That was a big fish. I gotta change up what I am using.
@@Mr_Omell hi, I try different things. A J13 silver Rapala is always good and I've had luck with a yellow Canadian wiggler. Spinnerbaits are also good and white seems the best for me. In the summer wacky rigs were really good.
Pretty sure I met you a couple of years ago when I was hiking into ice fish Slipper Lake and you were hiking in the area. You stopped by a couple of times while I was on the lake ice fishing and we chatted a bit! Quimby is a fun lake. Nice Lakers in there as well. Take care!
@@dunk22 Hi, I remember that. I was new to the area and I think it was before I started ice fishing.
Save some flyers or newspapers to lay down before filleting your fish, no slipping and sliding that way. Easier to clean up too!
@@dunk22Hi, that's a good idea - thanks for the tip.
There you go, the infamous wiggler, lol... good stuff

Like your videos Rod! I’m also new to the area and it’s funny…I met Gregory at the Quirke boat launch as well on Labour Day weekend 2023 just as laker season was ending. He showed me his set up as well, nice guy and now he has me addicted to trolling for trout. I live across the road from Quirke launch on Popeye lake…maybe we will see you out there some day… looks like your enjoying your new Lund! Congrats
@@DMacDougall-e4y hi and thanks. Is the fishing any good on Popeye? I don't think there's public access any more.
I thought the momma lynx was a bit scrawny. My take is one of the kids did not want to swim across the lake and the other did. Great filming. I did not think they were afraid at all, more that they just wanted to cross the lake as a group.
@@timp3931 hi, yes, the smaller one didn't really want to swim across. I was glad that a power boat didn't come by as it was around 8.30am.

Great video. I loved this. Never knew this trail existed. Fancy stair case. I was in Thunder Bay when that ship went down and said to myself that I have never seen that lake so rough. Later I learned the consequences at the east end. Best wishes to you. (There's a museum on the Michigan side devoted to the Ed) I am happy to see this video. Bye for now.
Look at how much lighter that bass is then the ones we have locally
@@zam200864 yes, the water is fairly clear where I was.
Good job bud. Just subscribed to your channel. Keep up the good work and tight lines
Hi, thanks. The bass are spawning right now up here and they're considered an invasive species so there's no closed season. They should really be biting post spawn.
@@GraylingOutdoors nice. Go get em and good luck
If you don't mind a suggestion. The para-cord trip wire is dangerous the way you are using it. Let me suggest you get you another tent stake and drill a hole large enough for your para-cord to go through it and tie it to the end of you tripwire. stake the thrower down where you want it. Then cock the thrower, then run your tripwire straight back and drive it part way into the ground leaving the tripwire 2-3" off the ground. Then when you want to trip it just step on the trip-wire. A lot safer what you are doing with a loaded gun in your hands. I do like your design though.
good stuff
check out the rock paintings while you're there.

Hello Grayling - I'm a bit South of you in Arizona and just went out for the last week of quail season. Getting a bit older and noticed that I'm slow on shouldering after carrying a shotgun for miles. I was looking online for examples of shotgun slings when I saw your video. Very good work with your DIY sling. After watching your method I was trying something a little different. I used a one inch wide piece of Velcro and just made a simple loop over my shoulder. With about 1.5 inches of overlap at the end of the loop, it gives me enough support to hold the shotgun securely with no strain on my elbows. When I forcefully snap the shotgun forward, the Velcro separates cleanly and allows for a quick mount. I need to test it out in the field during a hunt, but it just might work for me.
Hi, that's a good idea 👍
