About Mehluli:
Mehluli Malisa Batakathi is an Advocate of the Superior Courts in Zambia and a partner at a multi-disciplinary law firm in Lusaka. He co-founded Conservation Advocates Zambia, a non-profit organization dedicated to using legal tools for environmental conservation and climate justice.
Mehluli holds an LL.M. in Constitutional Law, a B.Sc. in Land and Water Resources Management, and an LL.B. He has served as the president of his student union and is currently the Chapter Co-ordinator for the Lusaka Provincial Chapter of the Zambia-United States Exchanges Alumni Association. As a part-time lecturer at the University of Zambia, he teaches Constitutional and Administrative Law.
He leads the Law Association of Zambia’s Public Interest and Human Rights Committee and is a member of its Climate Change Taskforce. Mehluli also serves on the Panel of Experts for the Initiative for Strategic Litigation in Africa and as the Director of Strategic Litigation at the Institute of Law, Policy, Research, and Human Rights.
Passionate about constitutionalism, human rights, and environmental protection, he has addressed key issues at the Constitutional Court, including electoral matters and good governance. He advocates for sustainable development and has been involved in efforts to halt mining in Lower Zambezi National Park and commercial farming near Kasanka National Park. His Humphrey Fellowship focused on the right to a clean environment as a human right and the intersection of constitutional and environmental law.
