Small Farm Sustainability
Приєднався 4 жов 2010
The Iowa State University Extension and Outreach program in Small Farm Sustainability exists to open the door to relationships and resources relevant to the pursuit of sustainability for Iowa’s smaller-scale, entrepreneurial farm enterprises. By sharing science-based information, providing program leadership, and facilitating collaboration, we will promote planning and profit potential in specialty ag ventures that tend to increase stewardship, diversity, and resilience on the Iowa farmscape.

Wish you would talk more about what they do for plants please
Do you grow your vegetables from heirloom seeds? Organic? Or at the very least, non-gmo? I am not happy with my tomato crop, so I'm looking for a good bit of tomatoes to make my salsa for canning this year. I live close by and would love to use your tomatoes, but won't use GMO vegetables. Thanks 😊
Hi @SusieLovesJesus! We would love to connect you with the Rinehart family! You can find their phone and email on their Facebook page, Rinehart's Family Farm!
Thank you for the wonderful video!
Hi! Are you still operating? I want to visit your farm just incase.
This was a research project and has been concluded.
Had any problems with them escaping and going feral?
Yum soo tasty with a bit of garlic butter.. I catch these guys by the bucket load in nth Queensland
They have now turned up in the Zambezi River, Zimbabwe of all places and are devastating the local fish 😡😠
They arent crawfish, theyre called Yabbies or Yabby for singular
How much calcium do those guys filter out? I want to start a system with red swamp crayfish. I'm from Louisiana and my family loves to eat them. Just wondering a good way to keep enough calcium for the crayfish and my plants without messing with the ph too much.
dont do drugs
Yo my guy! This is gnarlllyyyyyy
lol bullshit. crayfish will not be able to live in aquaponic water
How many crayfish needs to best for aquaponics system?
thanks
I have videos of red claw lobster too, See for my channel
Do you have an email that I can email you at, or phone number? I'm in Canada and have some questions for you.
do you make a living doing this? how much do you make (if I can ask), and what state do you operate in? thank you!
These are an invasive species and are illegal in many states. I wouldn't promote these at all. We have plenty of other crawfish in this country that don't destroy the local enviornment
You are correct, but I don't think that keeping these crayfish in an aquaponics system would do any damage to the local species and these are already in our water ways.
The problem isn't commercial growers usually there are regulations in place for the most part about them. The issue arises with hobbyist growers that decide to give it up and then release the crawfish into a local stream. At that point you have a real problem.
Any idea where in Europe could I get some for aquaculture?
+Linas Vaitonis every canal or river in britain!
What do they eat?
They are omnivores
They prefer vegitation over meat but will eat both
I've read that these (and pretty much anything like it) are really aggressive. What kind of crawfish/water density do you guys have going on? Also have you had any success establishing a breeding colony or do you import them when they are young? Thanks for the video!
Steve Eaton - Very non-aggressive, not as cannibalistic as the prawns or other crayfish, cheaper to feed (require much lower protein in diet), very easy to maintain.
@@Rattlerjake1how many percent protein in their feed formula
do you know where you can buy them live for your own aquaponics?
Our company sells juvenile red claw crayfish in the USA. They are usually available for shipping from May onwards. Some States do not allow them and some (like Florida) require a license to grow them. www.farmingcrawfish.com
