Hi everyone! Nearing the end…. Honest! Please give me feedback on where I can improve my videos for you all. 😊

We're coming to the finishing touches to our little puppy now.... these are what make 100% of the difference to our pictures, it's good to take your time over this. I leave the picture up and as I glance at it over maybe a week I will see what I can do to improve it. We have to be careful not to over do these final touches, when I try and get them done in one go it doesn't work as well for me. I really hope you have all enjoyed this portrait, and I hope you have gained tips to help you in your own portraits. Thank you for liking and subscribing, it means a lot to me. Hi everyone, in this video I show how to get the 3 D effect, it's all too easy to end up with a very flat looking cat! I show how I get all the mapping out done and then starting to mix the pastel pencils on the page. I show also how easy it is to get the nose marked in to exactly the right place by using our carefully traced on white lines. Has anyone drawn this beautiful cat? Hi everyone! See how I wipe the pencil whenever I have drawn near the black, it' makes a big difference to your finished picture if you can keep the black out of the lighter hairs. I use the pastel pencils very differently to how I'd use them on other pastel papers, you can press quite hard on pastelmat paper and still add more colour onto of those firmly made marks. Hi everyone! well, this is quite a typical thing that happens when I draw a picture, it's all a learning curve for me all the time...I wasn't happy with how my background was going. It just wasn't intense in colour enough for my liking and yet I didn't want a block of intense colour either, so I just went for it! I'm trying to replicate the background in my reference photo.I knew this would be a long job on the background, so if you're drawing the puppy please feel free to do what you want with the background, don't try this at home!!! Unless you are experienced or want to go on the big learning curve along with me! Please let me know how you get on with the background and what you decided to do with your own picture. I think it's good to see that even after 14 years of drawing pets in pastel I still make mistakes and show how I put them right, a very good learning tool for you. It's good to see someone teaching make mistakes, it shows that no one is perfect and we can all do this, it just takes watching and practice!

Hi everyone, I really enjoyed drawing a small picture, it's so handy to be able to get more colour on over a larger area and still be able to lean on the paper, with or without glassine paper protecting the picture. I find you can lean on pastelmat paper, it doesn't effect being able to draw over the area leaned on. On other pastel papers I would not do this! they withstand this so well. I always make sure that my hands are free of hand cream before I draw.

Hi everyone! I try to make every stroke go in the right direction, I always go with the way its growing and looking on the photo. this is one of the reasons, when choosing your photo to draw you can see the direction of the fur or hair, you need the detail there in the photo, especially if you are beginner. It's a massive help. I am always looking out for particularly characteristic features that must be included in a pet portrait to accurately replicate the pet. Thanks for watching!😄

Hi everyone! when doing the eyes, it's very important I think to start with that the picture you pick to copy has lovely highlights in the animals eyes, this gives immediate life to your picture. I always make sure to get a nice thin black line outlining the highlights in the animals eyes, the difference it makes is amazing! Thanks for watching!

Hi everyone, this is really the first time I tried colour mixing. For this course we used the smallest set of Faber Castell pastel pencils to keep the cost down for beginners especially. I am lucky that I have lots of pencils and loads of colour so never really struggled getting a colour I wanted in a particular spot on the picture. But this has been a great learning curve for me to, having to mix the colours has been great and even more fun. Although some beginners have found it difficult. I chose this set of colours because after trying out the colours first, I made sure we could get the animal like colours we need for any animal before suggesting the set. thanks for watching!
