Welcome to Green Iron TV, a channel focused on the collecting and restorations of historic military vehicles. Episode 1 will begin with an introduction and walk around on our first featured vehicle, a 1967 Kaiser Jeep M725 Military Ambulance that we recently purchased. This will be the first in a series as we restore this vehicle and show and highlight several other historic military vehicles, their owners and collectors.
Green Iron TV Episode 92- Building a 1/35 scale M37 with a AN/MLQ-24 radio comms shelter
On this episode we are going to be building a special model, as we build a unique vehicle my father drove while in service in the early 1960's during the Cuban Missile Crisis. We are going to start with a 1/35 scale M37 from Roden and a comms shelter from Hobby Link and then do a whole lot of scratch building to produce the radio and radar towers on the truck.

Cool project. Can't wait to see it finished up.
Thanks, Part 2 will be out next Friday.
It's really helpful if people know what the TO&E is as well. Infantry companies only had 2 jeeps and trailers assigned to them during wwii. Larger trucks were typically part of the service company of the regiment. This is just as important as the rest of the marking
Yes it makes it very helpful in understanding what units would have what vehicles.
now i know what my M35 markings mean, its wearing its originals, its an old MP truck, explains why it is still in such good shape
Awesome, glad this helped
Waste of time repainting it!! Looks restored well enough!
It was good from far, but far from good. Plus I didn't like the font on the markings. I wanted a much better looking vehicle and it paid off with a MVPA Gold medal at the nationals this year.
Thanks for explaining this now I know what it means on my Army Jeep.
Thanks, Glad it was able to help you out.
Good job.
Thanks
Thank you so much. That helped a lot.
Awesome, glad it helped you out.
Nice Job!
Thanks, It ended up winning a gold Medal at the MVPA this year.
You should try fluid film for rust prevention I just put it on my first tractor trailer frame for a customer I think it might work
For me, it's much easier to just put them away for the winter and keep them off the salted roads
Thank you. Good info. I have subscribed. Cheers from NZ🇳🇿.
Thanks for following along with us.
I understand that Daewoo is still making a version (with 4 cylinder diesel engine) of this vehicle and marketing it to African armed forces.
Actually it's Kia that makes a copy. They are quite popular with the Asian military market.
II suspected that I would get the maker’s name wrong. Couldn’t be bothered checking that Dutch guy’s website before I posted😁.
You have a new subscriber my friend 🧡
Thanks for following along. Stay tuned for more modeling content as we move into winter here. Next up is going to be a M37 with a comms shelter on the back.
Have you watched the Vietnam Gun truck documentary on HULU? You should definitely check it out!!!!
Could you please make a video on the bumper? Markings, I'm trying to figure out what to put on my M38.
Sure, I'll try and put one together. You can read a little about the order they are put together on this webpage, www.deltateamdecals.com/about-military-markings.html
Very good video
Glad you liked it.
Good video. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Yes, we all hate it once the salt trucks take the roads!
Yes people who don't live where it gets cold will never know the pain of dealing with the mess the salt trucks make.
I use the NOCO Genius1 trickle charger. Best $30 ever spent.
Yep these small trickle chargers work great to maintain the batteries for the winter.
Good job, all MV operations have ceased here in Maine as well.
Yep, once the salt trucks hit, it's time to put them away for awhile.
It's amazing that the original muffler lasted that long.
Yep, these vehicles are usually pretty low mileage. This one only has about 28,000 on it.
WD-40 is your friend! That new muffler looked like a direct replacement. Good job!
I don't think those bolts would have budged even with WD-40 or PB Blaster. They had not been removed in 55 years and were pretty rusty after years of heat cycles.
Great looking parade.
Thanks
Cool Cannon! What a great project
Thanks
Looks awesome. Love the mascot
Thanks, we felt it was a great touch.
good job.
Thanks
Thanks for taking us along.
Thanks for watching
Nice group of trucks. I was lucky enough to have my m35a2 and my m1009 in my local parade. I had vets in the back of my deuce it was nice to be able to do that
It's always great to be able to give the veterans rides in the parades. Great Job!
Looks stunning, Dave. 👍👍👍
Thanks
I forwarded this video to 10 guys. We all should for our hobby.
Thanks, I appreciate it. Every little bit helps keep history alive.
When we get to the point of cutting off the entire, cut as close to the rim as you feel safe to do, then the Dremel tool is used to cut through the steel cords. The tool I listed below will break the bead. Those rims appear to be the old WWII widow maker rims that shops will not work on. The safety rim is what your M715 or the M37 and that vintage of vehicle uses. Personally, I would have wrapped a chain around that rim (in a couple of places) through the slots in the rim. But that is just me.
Yes, I ended up cutting the last bead with the dremel like I mentioned in the video. Yes, we strapped the tires when reinstalling them and inflating them. You can see that on this week's episode that comes out Friday morning.
The scope mount is super rare to find on a 57mm.
Yes, I've read that. It's in pretty good shape for sitting outside for the last 70 years and the elevation feature still work on the sight. Eventually I would like to find the proper M69C scope to go in it.
Looks great. Good thing those wheels use tubes because the beads look rough. Is the correct color 33070?
Yes, lucky they are military tubed tires. I painted it in #24087 because it will go back on display at the American Legion and the semi-gloss finish should last better than a matte finish. Plus the #24087 is what I had in stock.
Cool
🪖Hope the Parade🇺🇲Season was filled with lots fun routes with y'all up North. That replica MA Duece sounding & looking real good! 💯 The Karens🤣 Indiana neighbor here. Have a great week.👍
Yes we had a great parade and show season, with just one parade left for Veteran's Day. Thanks!
It was a great car show. Couldn't have asked for better weather. Thank you for the video
Yes, the weather was outstanding for October.
Great video. I’m taking my m35a2 and my m1009 to a car show tomorrow
Awesome, hope you have a great show!
People who do not know what they are doing , need to stop doing videos.
OK, then what would you have done differently to remove 70 plus year old tires that had rotten sidewalls and the beads were basically rusted to the wheel? These were not the first military safety ring wheels I've ever worked with.
Would heat help soften the bead? What is that pulley/eye hook thing on the wheel hub?
The old tires were so hard that probably the only heat that would have help would have set them on fire. 🤥 The eyes on the wheel hubs looks like they are for tying the cannon down for shipment most likely.
Can't believe those tires wouldn't hold air.😅
Yep, can't believe they wouldn't. Ha Ha.
Fun show in Oshkosh!
Yes, it was a great show.
I really enjoyed hearing about the red M38A1. I couldn't hear the owner say what year. We drove mostly M151 in the USAF, but there were some M38A1 that always went to more senior airman.
It is an early 1953 M38a1 before the update changes. I was remarkably original and scored well because of that fact.
Do HMV owners typically have insurance? Is it required at these events?
@@richardparrott1580 Yes, I run full coverage on my vehicles. Although some events don't require it, it would be best to carry full insurance incase anything happens to the vehicle either at the show or when transporting it there.
This was awesome to watch. It's great to see these trucks grab folks interest and helps keep the memory of the ones who served in these trucks alive. Great build.
Thanks, these are great looking trucks.
Thanks for this very helpful and informative video…and will refer to it in finishing up my M38A1. You have a beautifully restored machine. Can you tell me how I may find more info on how to accurately configure the hood numbers…specifically the later versions as you have on your hood.
Thanks, glad it helped you. As for the hood registration numbers, once they are lost there is really no way to recover them. There are several ways to make correct looking numbers. Contact the guys at www.deltateamdecals.com/ as they are awesome at helping to make up correct numbers.
Beautifully restored vehicles…thx for sharing this experience with us and congratulations on your wins! Inspiring me to finish work on my M38A1…thx again and maybe will see each other in Louisville 👍👏
Thanks, and good luck with getting your M38a1 finished up and hopefully we will see it at the show in Louisville.
Great job enjoyed it nice jeep
Thanks, it was a fun restoration on the M38a1 and I'm glad all the hard work paid off.
Thanks for taking us along.
Thanks for always watching!
Congratulations on the awards. How are the vendor prices?
A lot of the vendors had great pricing on items and I picked up a few small items I was looking for.
Some big leakers there. LOL
The joys of old vehicles. You don't get worried until they stop leaking. Ha Ha
@@greenirontv324 Old cars don't leak, they mark their territory. 🙂
Nice work, it's a great kit
Thanks
Thank you for going through the judging criteria list... Very helpful
Glad it can help
