Yes..my nails are short!...maybe the fingers get a bit harder over the years...play it firmly too....10 guage strings..not too heavy. Thanks!

Thanks a lot!...it certainly is an old guitar..a washburn I got at 12yrs old in 1979, about the same time I heard Broonzys version of the tune. I don't know about magic but I do put a capo on the first fret and then drop the tuning back down to standard which makes the strings a bit looser....I'm sure the Martin will sound great! Cheers
