DAD-VENTURE TIME Ep 2 - Mistakes were made! Learn from my experience.

Christian and I troubleshoot the 200 Series engine potentially being flooded. In episode 1, I managed to get enough water in my airbox, and possibly the engine, to for the ECU to shut off the motor. Enjoy the recovery, problem-solving, and some helpful tips in this episode.
DAD-VENTURE TIME Ep 1 - South Side of Big Bear, California
Переглядів 34 тис.4 роки тому
Christian and I explore the south side of Big Bear in this episode. Starting off from the west entrance of City Creek Trail (1N09) off state route 330 and ending at the top of Clarks Grade (1N54), we encountered lots of creek crossings (!!), fantastic views, and a pretty big problem with my intake at the end. I NEED A SNORKEL. Enjoy!

One of the top questions I get on Instagram is what devices I use to help navigate and communicate while exploring with my family and also how I mount them. This video goes over all the devices and explains, in detail, how they're set up. Enjoy! Cleghorn Ridge Shenanigans with OverlandDad (2N47)
Переглядів 2,1 тис.5 років тому
A San Bernardino offroad staple - Cleghorn Ridge has it all. It's a great place to learn to wheel and can easily be tackled in a day. While most of the actual Ridge is a fire road, there are all different types of offshoots and technical terrain making this trail interesting for virtually everyone, experienced or not.
Fotornr's Go Fast Camper

On the back of Forornr’s (AJ’s) AEV Prospector XL is a well crafted and engineered Go Fast Camper (aka GFC). As the name implies, these campers are built to GO FAST! They're super light and functional. As mentioned in the video, AJ will be doing a more thorough overview of the GFC in the near future. So that you don't miss his video, subscribe to his UA-cam here: ua-cam.com/channels/O4Xtd8YFsFv...
Opening an iKamper and Batwing in Real Time

Thought it'd be fun to show just how fast it is to set up camp with the iKamper Skycamp and Rhino-Rack 270 Batwing. Enjoy!
i’m from San Bernardino Big Bear is my backyard i don’t think there’s another place in CA with as many trails to explore and get lost in
5VZFE RULES! 🏁🏁
Been wanting to do Clarks Grade for a long time but it's always closed, as it is now. Never thought of 1n09 as an option. I'll have to check if/when it's open. Looks like a nice scenic trail. Is that bridge directly on 1n09, or an offshoot somewhere? I'd like to get a picture on that. Thanks!
Great video. I want to go check this out in my 80! What time of year was this?
Nice set up of cooking utensils , overkill for sandwiches.
Rad video! Sub’d
Did this guy just say I had a baby? Wonder how his wife feels about that…
If he’s in California, that would explain a lot…
Not to many people know there's a hot springs up there
Not to many people know there's a hot springs up there
I'm from Big Bear Lake California Went to school up there If you never been there you are going to fall in love with my hometown Big Bear Lake California 🐻☮️🐻
I would always go Toyota only from dealer spark plugs. Pro tip Toyota spark plugs actually are cheaper at the dealer than most realize. I live in SoCal and get them for 7-9 bucks max. If you go a non Toyota(Denso), then k would only recommend you use NGK. Great content and totally going to follow many of your trip lines.
Good place to go I'm heading up that way this weekend with some friends to camp out for the weekend
This would be a great place for me to check out
time to install a snorkel.
Is this campsite on 2N86?
I just did the City Creek Trail 1N09. It’s off Highway 330. Great fun trip with the family with creeks and water
Such a great trail, right?
Nice video! You know if it’s open?
Thanks! Last I heard, the route leading in the way we came was closed. But it's been a while since I have been there so I don't honestly know.
@@overlanddaddy thank you!
So, gonna get a snorkel?
Does the ikamper fully open or does it hit the bat wing with the batwing there?
It just narrowly misses it. No contact! Good luck!
What type of rack do you have? I have an iKamper SkyCamp 3.0 on a prinsu rack and I’m trying to figure out how to mount an awning to it.
dude, you're telling me at 3:13 you had no power brakes? Bro, that's mad dangerous and the brakes will only work for like 3 charges after engine turn off.
I had plenty of braking power. The problem was that I didn't have acceleration and I needed momentum to get to the position that I wanted to get into while we spent the afternoon troubleshooting...
@@coreywhitaker9095 it's sketch dude, you probably had residual brake pressure left over from when the engine ran but after like 3 good pumps you will have no BRAKES at ALL. So you will have to e brake it.
Got to keep those extra links
I did Clark's grade in a 2004 Tacoma preunner rear wheel drive not a jeep of course but I made it with no issues at all I stayed at a flat spot....clarks grade to skyline take the right and its in the right hand side no markers easy to find
FYI I hear the assie's complain that on the 200 diesel, has leaks through the airbox with dust ingress. Hack is little silicone grease/petroleum jelly on the air filter seal, this could be an issue too? Make sure when(not if) you get snorkel, that it is actually water tight. Most are not. Starting fluid would be good drying agent.
Please no water! 🤞
Like 130 Yikes Water 💦 In There !
Cool Video & Nice Trip Indeed.. Glad The 1N09 Gate Was Open.. Awsum Forest Service Roads Up There - I Did it Once on a Quad Racer Back in The Day With a Few Extra Gallons of Gas Haha Highland Into The South Side of Big Bear And Back Down The Next Day 🤠🇺🇸
What kind of a roof rack is that that allows you to have the batwing with an ikamper centered?
It's a Front Runner rack
Awesome adventure.
Thanks!
It’s hard to find these vehicles
I tried to hit this trail but it was closed. Cool thing is I got to explore pretty much the whole mountain going many different routes for about 6 hours before ending up in Fawnskin. Take a map or download a map before heading out. A few times I felt lost out there.
What downloaded map did you use
@@RealityJeff I didn't have a map. I said it in the comments I advise anyone to take a map or download one first before going out there
10/9/2021 unfortunately road is closed :(
Bummer!
Was that crawl control through some of that?
Nope. We didn't need it at all on any part of this trail.
Depending how much water went in to the engine, water will totally Destroyed your engine, water will create a Hydrolock, it will bent the connecting Rods when you try to start the engine, for repair that engine it may cost you $10k-15k, you were very lucky.
😂😂😂
Happened to me on My Chevy Silvarado! Total engine failure.. I was rolling way too fast through 3-5 inches of water.. truck stopped dead in its tracks! Cost me 16k for a new engine! Live and Learn!
Congrats on another kid. Hey, what front bumper is that?
Thanks! It’s made by Dissent Offroad.
Does anyone know what trail this is exactly and also address ???
Toyotas are amazing!
Gonna do this trail soon
Nice video. Looking forward to hearing more about your F250.
nice! good to see something other than a wrangler make the climb
Awesome trails, That’s my backyard. We spend a lot of time up there.
Do you know if it’s open?
@holstercraft6166 going to head there next week, any swimming holes close to the trails?
Looked like a lot of fun. What are you using for your navigation; was that an iPad with an app? I’m pretty close to that area. Hit me up if you want a tag along. Great video.
Thanks, Robert! I'm using Gaia in this video but have since moved to the OnX app. Both are great, but the OnX app is much easier to use and learn. Thanks for watching!!
@@overlanddaddy hey thanks for responding brother, I appreciate it.
Nice work. enjoyed the editing and music
Thanks, Sean!
Great video, much appreciated. Looking at a very similar setup in Mongolia but based on a Tundra for a bit of extra room. Any issues with the CFX-75? How much room between that and the 2nd row seats in your setup? MSA drop slides are great, I use the MSA DS40 currently. Looked pretty easy to lower the bigger fridge, how about lifting it back?
keep it going, u have potential!
Thank you!!
Nice set up! Where do u buy the canvas?
Great video! Subbed, keep them coming! Almost at 1k!
What are the Dimensions of the rack? Thanks.
Originally clicked on the video because of your channel name. Was hoping for good overlanding suggestions to do with kids. Maybe by a river or lake, etc. Anyhow, it wasn’t about that, but enjoyed all three nonetheless. But if you have any suggestions for a good spot to bring kids along that would be great. Thanks
I really appreciate the feedback! I definitely plan to film some trips with the kids. This was the first trip I did where I set the intention of filming a vlog. There just happened to be no kids around. It went great (although I do need to improve my camera skills quite a bit). Regardless, more kids-oriented content will be coming soon!
First things first: Beer. My man. 🤙👍🍻
Hahaha! Yes!!
