Christopher Perdue - Emily (Joanna Newsom cover)
This is one of my favorite covers of all time, a 90's-indie-rock style take on this amazing Joanna Newsom song. I couldn't find it online anywhere for years, so when I found it in an old backup drive I forgot I had lying around I figured I should share it in case there other people on the same boat. I could never find any other music by this guy, either, if anyone seeing this knows more than I do please share in the comments :)

This is so cool omg love this cover!!
This is the most original take on a Joanna Newsome song I’ve ever heard
Probably the best cover of probably the best song ever written. A couple of the transitions feel a little awkward and force (others feel completely natural). Fantastic. Thanks!
Probably one of the best covers out there: it has taken the original song in a completely different direction, it never loses steam and it's full of emotion.
i fkn love this so much
Flanked by furrows, curling back like a match held up to a newspaper... I've loved so many lines in this song, but only just realized the dense internal rhyme of this simile... It is always wonderful to hear someone take these words, in my opinion the most perfect poetic piece of the past twenty years, and make them their own...
this is incredible haha
Dope af
I wish this guy had done more stuff!
do you have a bandcamp or soundcloud where you post original music? I would love to support
I'd love to hear him do more Joanna covers
Perfect
thank you for uploading this beautiful cover!!
Something about hearing a neutral (very nice!) male voice sing, “I’m not ashamed to say I knew you better. What they’ve seen is just a beam of your sun that banishes winter” helps me to see Emily more objectively, not just as a metaphor in Joanna’s lexicon, but as a real character, a sister, who holds a lot of power in Joanna’s life.
Joanna NEEDS to hear this
I feel like I understand the song better now. Musically, more so than lyrically.
I can shed light! Email me if you're curious. Cjmorey@gmail.com
It is possible to like a cover as much as the original. I love it!!
One of your all time favourite covers of all time? Me too, man. Me too. It's transcendent it's so amazingly goooood.
