    Just brought our bulb in from the garden and put it in the garage to go dormant. It's going to be brutally cold over the winter. Will it still bloom around the holidays if I just put it in a pot indoors instead?

    • @FlowerFanatic
      @FlowerFanatic 24 дні тому

      I would store it in a 50 degree spot inside and let it go dormant for about 4 weeks in a dark spot and let dry out ect. And re pot inside so you can force it to bloom inside during winter. Or you can try just potting it inside and see if it will bloom. You have no control of its bloom time though, if you don’t force it into dormancy.

      @FlowerFanatic Thank you. I'll leave it in the garage for a month since it'll probably be close to that temp, and lower. Then I'll have it potted and brought indoors.

    I saw in your later video that they were inside growing, is there a way to keep them dormant through the winter I live in Ohio, but I want to do this. Was hoping that they would stay dormant till spring if I put them in the garage or something.

  • @audrachristine5044
    @audrachristine5044 Місяць тому

    I saw your video digging them up, but I thought they would stay dormant in the pots. I live in Ohio and it’s not realistic for me to grow them over the winter in big pots inside. So they don’t go dormant? Is there a way to keep them dormant until spring?

    Gorgeous roses that's for sure! I have Joe Pye weed 'Gateway', yes it gets massive, too large for some of the positions I had placed it. A few years ago I got a new one called 'Ruby', it's awesome cause it truly is a compact grower that one can tuck even into smaller beds and it will not overtake, the big varieties are fine as long as sited correctly.

    Great tips ! I add industrial grade perlite {which are bigger pieces} to my large containers soil mix with a 3" to 4" bottom layer of real bark chips and foam chucks {@1" squares} at the bottom topped with a screening material to keep the upper soil from trickling down. On the topic of "Sweet soil" besides the lime added for sweetness, add crushed up eggshells, {sand size or smaller} to the potting soil for permanent alkalinity since the lime can rinse away or be buffered by fertilizers and rain. I just ordered a dwarf miss kim and have already made up the soil to "ripen" WHICH REMINDS me ! When making your sweet soil with lime, it's important to premix the soil, that should be damp, and let it rest for a couple of weeks with periodic mixing every couple days. This procedure allows the soil to mellow and not allow the lime to burn the roots....which will happen with fresh mixed lime.

Did you think about dual level shelving, that's very common here (with the upper shelves being narrower than the bench level).
