This promotional film for Cadburys, scanned from our collection, is from the pre-Quality Street era when chocolate assortments were still the preserve of the wealthier purchaser .... and when cinema audiences had the patience for six minute adverts. From around 1930.

Here's a quirky promotional film from the Fifties. Make sure to watch past the fairly dry introduction and then you'll see the benefits of varied electric lighting demonstrated via the medium of dance (yes, really). The irascible commentator here is Gilbert Harding, a popular TV face of the time, whose Waldo Lydecker-esque demeanour earned him the description "The Bilious Bachelor of Broadcasti...

In 1942, if you had a headache, an annoying boss with a nasal voice or you just worked in a hot kitchen or noisy factory, then these and all other ills could be quashed simply by taking some Embex Tablets. A delightful cinema ad from the late 1950s. Skiffle Heat is what you need to cook your dinner auto-magically whilst you're out shopping in your high heels. (Musical pedants might dispute whether the song is really skiffle - where's me washboard?)

Meyer's film is here described as "Not A Sequel" following a less-than-enthusiastic reception from VOD author Jacqueline Susann. They are for sure quite different films... and we love them both 😃 Scanned from a 16mm film, and colour corrected to reduce fading.

Showing the Monorail; the Ski Slope; Waterskiiing; the Wild West Saloon and (most exotic of all) the Tiki Beachcomber Bar, with yummy-looking cocktails ("glamorous concoctions") priced at only 4 bob. Scanned from a faded 16mm film where we have managed to replace some colour. Roll on summer holidays!

In June 2012, much-loved British actress Barbara Windsor was welcomed by a packed house at The Cinema Museum in London for a fascinating interview covering her 60 year career in showbusiness. This is the recording of that evening. In 2014, Barbara was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Sadly she died in December 2020. GB ca. 1968, shot in London, for unknown sponsors. The riverside pad is probably Alembic House on the Albert Embankment, also used in Theatre of Blood (GB 1973).
