Переглядів 399Рік тому
This is a performance at our local studio with my student Elizabeth. She is a senior over 70 dancer (and I'm over 40) and she lights up the stage. We are doing a lindy hop and swing dance to the song "Let the Good Times Roll" by Sam Butera. Let our dance performance show you that you can start dancing at any age!! We hope you enjoy. :) Are you someone that started dancing over the age of 40 (or...
A Fun 1950s JItterbug Swing Dance to Bill Haley

What a lively song! Bill Haley and His Comets always get ya dancin'. This was a little 1950s jitterbug swing and boogie woogie number for our dance studio's instructor pro-show. Travis and I had a blast coming up with choreography for this and then performing.

I'm so glad you stopped by to enjoy my choreography for a sweet little 1920s Charleston flapper dance. The song is "Honeysuckle Rose" performed by Benoit Viellefon Hot Club. Check them out! @BenoitViellefon (CHOREOGRAPHY TUTORIAL COMING SOON! CHECK BACK!) It was such a nice sunny day in Austin, Texas and I just had to get outside and dance. A little Charleston choreography to the song Jazz Lips by the Careless Lovers. Let me know if you learn this flapper choreo! It would be great at a 1920s Great Gatsby style party. I'm an artist/animator and dance instructor in Austin, Texas that loves all things vintage. Follow me on instagram... jendee_dance Link to the song.... ua-cam.com/video/F44R039w24s/v-deo.html
Watch me draw a 1920s silent movie starlet, Clara Bow

Using just a ball point pen (no pencil sketches first!), I sketch a portrait of the 1920s flapper era sex symbol, Clara Bow. She was a silent movie actress and then appeared in "talkies" (movies with sound). Clara Bow was known as the "It Girl" in her time. Today, i try to capture her beauty in a quick drawing session. Join me! :) Link to the song used: ua-cam.com/video/j6-tTMQCPVQ/v-deo.html
1920s Charleston Jazz Era Dance to Ain't She Sweet

It's the 20s again.... the 1920s! I just had to learn this roaring 20s Charleston routine that I saw on the JazzMAD London UA-cam page by Sharon Davis. Perhaps you'll want to learn it too! :) This was filmed on a sunny spring day in downtown Austin, Texas next to the Cloak Room...an underground speakeasy right across from the Texas Capitol. I'm an artist/animator and dance instructor in Austin,...

What a delight! I stumbled across this vlog and just had to like, comment, and subscribe. You’re talented and adorable.
Aw Thanks Michael!! I haven't posted in a while but in the new year I'll get back to it! :) Hope you are doing well!
Fantastic Job
The best!!!!!
NICE !!!
Look at that Hepcat!!
I finally uploaded the film of the two sisters doing the Mustard... You gotta love the dresses and the red haird which I managed to keep in colour. ua-cam.com/users/shortsxBRUgdJv2uI?feature=share
great!
...I also trained myself to do the 'reverse dancing man' step and filmed myself doing it too as a new variation of my entirely fictional historical dance. It is how these sisters dance onto the screen in this one or what! The two 'sisters' I dance in gopher it baby are also wearing exactly the same type of dress, although the hair and not the dress is red. Everything else, however, is black and white.
*I just wanted to add: you told me about the reverse running man step. I learned it and recorded myself performing it... and it is almost exactly the same as the charleston kick (in your shorts film which has the vintage frame this is even more overtly evident). So I think you can safely say that you can do it already. ua-cam.com/users/shortsVUqhCIHuP-g.
Yeah I love this one too! By the way - the Reverse Running Man - which I learned thanks to you, is now incorporated into the latest imaginary historical dance and I filmd myself doing it! [still to come]. Here's the one, howeve I just released like yesterday: ua-cam.com/users/shortsVUqhCIHuP-g
Wonderful!
Thank you!
Elisabeth WAOUH ! Extraordinaire. J'ai visionné toutes vos vidéos je suis scotché. Excellente continuation à vos cours et votre chaine.🐝🐝🐝
Merci beaucoup! Je l'apprécie!
Une ARTISTE aux multiples talents. Merci pour ce beau partage. Bonne continuation Jen !🐝🐝🐝
Merci beaucoup pour les mots doux!
finish it off with throwing a pie in her face for a laugh
Merci pour ce partage et cet leçon de Charleston en vidéo !
Merci d'avoir regardé!
A flapper.
...and I still think the forward kick where you say that you're not actually shuffling is still the best shuffle of them all! Here's my absurd rendition that includes 'Ain't She Sweet' as the soundtrack: ua-cam.com/users/shortsHurvYyvZtY0?feature=share
Fun! :)
@@jendeedance ...I've finally worked out the dance step I was looking for; it's called the Basic Flap or the Running Flap and it appears that it is where the term "flapper" comes from. It is not directly part of the charleston but it is taken up in tap dance steps and is sometimes included as part of the dance. No wonder I wanted to learn it!
Yeah I really love this one. I found out how to do the Reverse Running Man. This film is great at teaching you it because it is just so clear. It turns out there are lots of shuffles where you appear to move backwards but step forwards. I think one of the most subtle is the one you do with the forward kick. Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/IsUy9gpykfc/v-deo.html. I'm going to try to learn a lot of your steps and I'll be combining them into a new choreography. Did I send you the one where I actually use 'Ain't She Sweet'? You probably noticed that I'm not attempting to imitate it as much as it can be seen as a parody of the tradition although I'm absolutely paying respect to the history as well and using it as a chance to better understand it. I just checked: I couldn't have shown you the 'Ain't She Sweet' film because I hadn't uploaded it yet.
Come back Sibbo all is forgiven
looks like fun
You two nailed it. I remember watching this dance in the 50's when my mom purchased our first black and white television from Sears.and Roebuck.
that's an awesome memory! thanks so much! :)
Very nice
thank you! :)
Wow!
One way, no standing !and give way for your partner to shine❤ your dancing
This one's great too! So inspirational.
Thanks so much!
...I've been looking for that one where you move backwards but you appear to be stepping forwards for ages... what do they call that?
Hm. I'm not sure which move it is. Are you talking about the reverse running man maybe?
@@jendeedance It's at 17 seconds. Is that really called the reverse running man? ha ha ha I thought they'd thought up a wittier name than that! I'm trying to make a variation of it to put at the climax of a recent choreography which has medoing exactly that with your feet but with jumping jack like movements of the hands. I really love your technical finesse with these steps and I wish I could do it as well! My grandmother taught me how to do the charleston, if you can believe that! She was a tap dancer in the thirties...
@@nachtschimmen Oh! i see which move you are talking about now. In that move, i'm just doing forward charleston kick but the hopping maybe adds an effect? So, just do forward charleston kicks and alternate your legs. That's awesome that your grandmother was a tap dancer in the 30s! Wow!! :)
@@jendeedance Yeah I love it. It really looks like you're stepping forward but you stay in the same place. I'm going to so absolutely try to do it my choreography but you make it sound so easy!
@@jendeedance ...and I looked up "The reverse running man" - fortuantely there's a lot of tutorials for it. It is so hilarious! I have to learn that as well!! I love it!!!
So wonderful!
😃
@@jendeedance ....I'm currently participating in an artistic project which is celebrating the flappers of this era by inventing a variation of the dance and an entirely fictional history to highlight some of the sociological aspects (also the problematic issue of recalling history). I called it "The Slutty Mustard"... so if I ever tell you that your dance is "soooooooooooo slutty" you'll know what I mean! ua-cam.com/video/u2_LH1Xtelk/v-deo.html
...also in the link I included below you'll see how I included three versions of me doing the dance which helps explain why this one immediately attracted my attention.
@@nachtschimmen i'm not seeing a link for some reason. you could try posting it again?
