Echoes of Evolution
Приєднався 6 тра 2024
Hi, I’m Kaii! I create videos for those fascinated by paleontology, biology, and geology. My aim is to explore the evolution of life and earth’s landscapes in a fun and understandable way. Feel free to drop questions in the comments!

Laurussia: Life On The Ancient "Old Red Continent"
Paleocontinent Laurussia, also known as Euramerica or the "Old Red Continent," was an ancient landmass with a fascinating geological and biological history. In this video, I briefly touch on its tectonic setting and highlight some of the remarkable organisms found in its fossil deposits, such as Bothriolepis and Pterygotus.

How the First Land Plants Became Huge Trees: Early Vascular Plants and the Lycophytes
Переглядів 4744 місяці тому
This is the second part of my series on the evolutionary history of land plants. I’ll dive into the early land plants from the Rhynie chert, like Aglaophyton major, Nothia, and Horneophyton, explore the transition to vascular plants with Cooksonia. Then I move on to the rise of Lycophytes and the Carboniferous swamp forests, in which I focus particularly on Lepidodendron and Sigillaria. You can...

Great stuff!!
Thanks!
Great documentary, pangea has always fascinated me and how the life forms were back then.
@@maximrahman Thanks a lot!
Amazing video ✨
Thanks! :)
Great vid! I definitely think there needs to be more paleontology content that discusses ancient biogeography.
Sick! Can't wait for another chapter on these ancient worlds!
Great video! There's a really interesting paper I read awhile ago that suggested that the Cryogenian glaciations may have led some algae to become more desiccation resistant, which may have helped them to adapt to terrestrial environments later on.
4:00 I thought Metzgeriothallus sharonae was Middle Devonian?
You’re completely right, Metzgeriothallus sharonae is indeed from the Middle Devonian. Unfortunately, I can't correct it (for some unknown reason, only bigger channels can do that), but I’ll pin your comment for others to see. Thanks for pointing it out! :)
@@EchoesofEvolution Oh, ok. I didn't even know it was possible to edit videos that you've already uploaded at all.
@@GoodrichthysEskdalensis I thought about adding a correction with a link card, but I just found out it only allows links, so that won’t work. Anyway, I think it’s clear now. Thanks again! :)
Very nice, i was confusing these continent names
Fascinating stuff. I didn't know we had discovered such large specimens of trilobites. I'm loving the the collaborations you do on your channel! Great job and thanks!
Thanks :)
Keep up the good work!
Thank you! :)
hey man, way to go! I'm a biology student at the university of Antwerp studying for my course exam of plants & fungi and these videos really help. Thank you!
Thank you so much! Wishing you the best of luck with your Plants & Fungi exam, and sending support from a fellow biology student!
Thanks, this video was tremendously useful and its invaluable considering how hard it can be to find info on Paleozoic corals.
Great to hear that it was helpful! :)
This is so cool! Can’t wait to see more.
Awesome video - very well done !! 🤩
Thank you :)
I am botany student your video helps me a lot..
Glad to hear it helped! Botany is such a fascinating field. Good luck with your studies! :)
Fun fact about lignin, specifically in wood. It can be welded to other wood if driven in by enough force at one time, specifically (in the application I saw it) when wooden nails are fired from a nail gun. This leads to a bond between implement and material that metal nails couldn't hope to approach.
Wow! That's fascinating. It's like nature’s glue! I love these examples where engineering and biology go hand in hand. Thanks for sharing! :)
Looking forward to the next one already!
very nice, keep it up
Hey man! Awesome vid!
Hey! Thanks :)
great presentation
Great animations :) You've brought Paleozoic coral reefs back to life!
super cool video :) excited to see what's next!!
I've reuploaded this video with boosted audio after @roccov1972 pointed out the low audio value in the original. Thanks for the feedback!
Great video 🪸
Thank you :)
I’ve already suggested your channel to my peers and friends. Keep up your good work bro (especially your models).
Great video! Btw are you Dutch xD
Hey thanks! Yes I’m Dutch :)
I studied this on my second year of ecology in uni in a course where we studied algae and land plants (with the exception of angiosperms which had their own course) and you explain it in a much better way than professors. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much! That must have been a wonderful study :) Angiosperms deserve at least two videos in this series about the evolutionary history of plants, so hopefully I can complement the angiosperm course you did with my future videos.
Erg leuk (: en interessant!
Dankjewel! 😃
Great video! Happy to have had your channel suggested to me
Thank you! :)
👋
you sound just like The Sapling youtuber
Hey Caitlinw, I just checked the channel you’re mentioning and it’s really cool! I see it as a huge compliment, thank you 🙏
yea very similar voice
this showed up on my home page 🎉
Great lesson. Keep up the good work. Thanks!
Thank you! Very appreciated:)
@@EchoesofEvolution My pleasure! I see that you are a biology and geology student. Where do you attend university? Are you pursuing a Masters or PhD? Where do you live? Thanks again!
@@roccov1972 I’m currently studying biology at the University of Amsterdam (where I’m based), and I’m also working on a minor in geology/paleontology at the University of Utrecht. I’d love to pursue a masters in paleobiology and maybe even a PhD in that field.
@@EchoesofEvolution Awesome. I'm really pleased that there is someone with your background providing an education on these topics for those of us who are not learned. Many thanks!
Well presented :).
Thank you so much! :)
Keep it up bro! Great video 👌
Thanks! Will do! ☺️
Great video bro. I subscribed
Thanks for your kind words! :)
👋
A very helpful video considering tomorrow is my Paleontology paper exam... I am a bachelor student of geology... Your videos are very interactive and make more of evolution videos on invertibrates
Hey Sapphireray, I'm glad to hear you found the video helpful! As a fellow geology/biology student, making these videos really helps me deepen my understanding of the subject, and I'm happy that it also helps other students :) I'm currently working on one about trilobites, and I think you'd enjoy it!
"Perhaps starfish are just faceplanted sea lilies." - somebody on PBS Eons, I think
Hey man, noticed this was your first video. It's very informative, keep up the good work!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you found it informative. Your support means a lot to me :) More videos are coming soon!
@@EchoesofEvolution That's great. I like the calm style.
